Took a year off, and got back in with a decent company, home daily, not toooo badly overworked, and no dock stuff unless I want. I find myself already happier, on the road, around 10 am at the end of my shift heading home, listening to music and all I think is "damn, I get paid to go on road trips and listen to music.".
So long as I dont fuck up and keep my head about me, this job is such cake, and satisfying way to earn money IMO. On my 6th year driving and still pretty satisfied. Wish the coworkers weren't so...how shall I say, true to stereotype, but I dont have to deal with them much thankfully.
Just wanted to express my enjoyment. Hope I never have to retire, maybe just get less hours or days when I get much older, because a full free year and a taste of retirement got pretty old after awhile.

My company lets me take month-long vacations and by the time I get to the 4th or 5th week I want to come back to work too. It feels nice to accomplish something. I too hope that I can work for a long time. Maybe I'll take even more time off as I get older, but being productive feels good.

Oh yeah I know what that feeling is like. I didn't work last year because I couldn't find anything due to so much issues. Now I'm working and despite the annoyance of my small company coming from a large carrier, I'm just pleased.
Last week I slept at a small truck stop and I could hear the frogs in the moonlight. I loved it. Getting paid to camp and discover areas I can go to later with my suv is amazing!

how you pay the bills if you not working?

Well I was laid off in Dec 2024 and I used the severance pay I got along with any outstanding cheques I had from the company. Then when that ran out around four months or so, I went on EI (employment income) which wasn't much. I relied on savings I really didn't want to touch but every month that passed with no interviews I had to dip in it a bit. Eventually I ran out of every source of income last December. Got some help from family and church members which really helped and got a Job in February this year. I really hope I don't have to go through that again.
