9070xt brand recommandation.

hello, after your recommendations, I am going to move towards a 9070 xt, do you have any advice for the brand? no need for rgb and stuff like that.
Ash6121@reddit
My Nitro+ is still going strong. Fantastic card but I do hate the 12V connector.
cafe_brutale@reddit
Still going strong a year after release? Lol lucky you

Me when I have nothing important or helpful to say
Slow_Switch3847@reddit
I got the nitro+ (has argb) to not get coil whine, or at least have as little chance, still got it.
Sapphire pulse is a good variant as well, I wish I'd have gotten that lol, spent €100 extra for basically nothing, the OC I have on the nitro+ is easily doable via AMD adrenalin anyway
beirch@reddit
From what I've gathered, higher end models are actually more likely to get coil whine because the chokes are more expensive and made from a different material that's more susceptible to coil whine.
Also the TDP is often higher which can lead to more coil whine out of the box.
It sort of tracks with my own experience, as I've had two Asus TUF Gaming models in the last four years, and one Asus Prime. The two TUF cards had horrible coil whine, while the Prime model was much quieter. Still some whine, but maybe like 20% of the others.
Slow_Switch3847@reddit
Went with my cousin's advice 😂
Symphonic7@reddit
I use to have awful coil whine on my cards before when I was on like a 6-year old supernova G2 Gold Plus 650W power supply. I upgraded to a 1000W Super Flower Platinum PSU and it went away entirely. I even upgraded my GPU and same, no coil whine. I will basically always go for platinum power supplies from here on out.
Slow_Switch3847@reddit
Upgraded to a 1000W superflower PSU as well, tho it's the leadex 3 ge gold 1000W, 80+ gold, only in cybernetics it is platinum. Eh, I'm either listening to music or getting loud sounds anyway while gaming

Powercolor Red Devil

Asus TUF, build like a brick.
gunmanivan1975@reddit
I have the powercolor hellhound. Not issues. Had it about 6 months.
FReeDuMB_or_DEATH@reddit
The XFX Mercury seem like the over all best ones. Especially the magnetic air version.
Soltysoo@reddit
PowerColor hellhound - I got this one when it came out. I came from rtx 3080 from msi all I can say it’s much quieter and less hot. Perfect card for 1440p.
illegalsvk@reddit
I went for Gigabyte, but anything without 12VHPWR connector will be fine.
Alexgreat446@reddit
I hace a nitro plus, two things to note:
There's coil whine, which isn't noticeable with headphones on. Issue is somewhat common on these afaik
The 12v connector. I bought a Corsair one for my specific psu to avoid combustion.
Otherwise great high quality card
IANVS@reddit
Sapphire Pulse/Pure or Powercolor Hellhound. 2x 8-pin power plugs so no issue with lacking cables. The only problem is Sapphire and Powercolor offer 2 years of warranty, the others give 3.
nvidiot@reddit
Pretty much any are fine, but there are some models to be cautious about:
Sapphire Nitro+ / ASRock Taichi: These two models use the infamous 12vhpwr cable for connection. I guess Taichi hasn't been sold enough to see reports of melting, but for Nitro+, there has been steady report of connectors melting.
Powercolor Reaper: There are some reports of the cooler being somewhat poor quality in terms of construction (namely, fan issue).
Gigabyte Gaming OC: They use the same infamous thermal putty as their GeForce bretheren; can leak if you install the card vertically.
IANVS@reddit
Gigabyte modified the thermal putty they're using, IIRC, it shouldn't be an issue anymore. It's a pretty decent card otherwise...
Yellowtoblerone@reddit
dumbest shit ever from asrock, make most of your card 2x8, make your oc card with 360-400w tbp card 12vhpwr
Zanithos@reddit
To be fair, we have yet to see an issue when users use a direct PSU connection, but that's not gonna stop me from freaking out when I'm on my computer and my GF slightly burns something in the kitchen.
SmokBarrage@reddit
sapphire/xfx/powercolor
nnodante@reddit
+1
Try to avoid cards with the fire hazard connector cuz some like nitro+ actually use it, take one with 8 pins.
SmokBarrage@reddit
yea its just the nitro and taichi i believe for the 9070xt that use the 12 pin
Zer0C00L321@reddit
Ya. Wish I had known the Taichi came with it before I bought it. :/
VarmintTheCritter@reddit
This still blows my mind every time I hear about it. I can't fathom why Sapphire did that.
Symphonic7@reddit
Probably to make the card appear more "premium" since it has the connector that something like a 5090 would. Theres something to be said about easier cable management too, but most people have fish tanks and it wouldnt make a difference between 1x12VHPWR cable and 2 or 3x8-pins.
FiTZnMiCK@reddit
That and/or because PSUs come with dedicated slots for them now.
Some Corsair PSUs now come with one standard PCIE 6/8-pin cable and a daisy chain 6/8-pin cable that plugs into the 12VHPWR slot.
Careful-Computer-685@reddit
Red devil is doing me well so far 🙏
HisAnger@reddit
Yep, wanted to post the same.
Those brands design stuff for amd cards, not reuse coolers from nvidia as it is cheaper

I have the Asus Prime OC, as it was the cheapest option, and it has been totally fine. 3x8P power, runs fairly quiet (quieter than my AIO) and no issues with the temperatures.
My previous GPU was the 6700XT, and that was the cheapest model from XFX. That was perfectly fine as well. Quiet, fine temps, all good.
coolgui@reddit
I don't have first hand experience with XFX, but I would definitely choose Sapphire over PowerColor. PoweColor should work fine, but I've had lots of problems with noise both from fan curves that don't seem to respect what I set in adrenalin and also coil whine. Haven't had any of those issues with my sapphire cards.
Oregano34820@reddit (OP)
thank you for all your advice, I will look into the saphire pulse.
SIDER250@reddit
Sapphire/xfx/powercolor use ptm 7950 thermal paste, which is the best. However, my advice is to avoid Sapphire nitro due to connector 12 vhpwr. Rest is fine.
Ok-Fuel-1724@reddit
I went with the (relatively) cheaper ASRock Challenger recently and have been happy with it so far!
Head_Percentage_546@reddit
Search for the model with 3x8 pin connector.
Pile_Of_Meat@reddit
Unless you care for aesthetics choose the cheapest option. There is little to no performance variation between brands but avoid cards with a 12vhpwr connection just to be safe.
Tr4shVViz4rd@reddit
Asrock Steel Legend has served me well. Has RGB but has the 2x8 pin as well.
Zanithos@reddit
Sapphire Pulse is the GOAT. 2x8 pin as well, so you won't be struggling with cable management or the fire hazard connector at all.
Pragitya@reddit
2x8 on a 9070XT? Isn’t the minimum required PSU is 750W? I thought it was 3x8
nnodante@reddit
One 8 pin pcie cable can supply up to 150w and the pcie slot your gpu goes into up to 75w
Card itself can use up to \~300w
Zanithos@reddit
The PSU is supplying the power to your entire unit. The 9070xt only uses 300w at peak operation (100% load). 2x8 is more than capable or handling that. The 8pin connection/cable is also capable of up to 150w, with higher quality ones capable of up to 288w, so it's fine.
If you wanted to got with 3x8 pin, the XFX Mercury is another good option.
Pragitya@reddit
Oh thank you for telling me, I feel dumb now haha
Zanithos@reddit
No problem lol. I was a little bit wary too, but I've yet to hear of one lighting up, so I guess it's working.
Yellowtoblerone@reddit
If going for top of the line, XFX/PC. If going for low cost, Asrock/PC. If go for good enough and value, XFX/sapphire on a discount
CurmudgeonlyBargee@reddit
I have the Asus Prime OC, it has 3x8 power connectors.
Vivid_Breadfruit8051@reddit
I like sapphire
jasnook@reddit
I have the Sapphire Pulse. Not flashy but man this thing is CHONKY. Load temps under 65c core 80c memory with fans that are effectively silent.
VarmintTheCritter@reddit
I'm happy with my Sapphire Pulse.
ficskala@reddit
my go to for the last few gens has been xtx, i currently have an xtx card (can't remember the exact model, qick and some numbers), a 6700xt, and i'm perfectly happy with it, never had any issues with noise or temeprature
Basically i'd skip looking at the brand, and just look at the size of the heatsink, number of fans, size of fans, and how much the gpu itself and the memory has been overclocked
