Girbaud shirt found in Father’s closet

My father passed away on Tuesday morning. My momma asked me to help her clean out his closet, take what I want, and let her know what to donate. While going through his shirts, I found one of mine that I wore in Junior High. This would have been from somewhere between 1988-1990 era. He had kept it all these years! It brought back many memories, and made me smile that he had kept some of my things.

Sorry about your dad, nice to have his old Tshirt

It’s her tee shirt. I’m often confused why someone would post on something that they so clearly did not even read!🤣

Relax... maybe use that energy on a post where it actually matters. I'm often confused why people need to be rude for no reason.

I've always assumed that their small wiener anxiety is to blame.

Seeing Girbaud takes me back. Sorry for the loss of your father.

Girbaud’s were mainstream popular? In Cincinnati in the late 80s/early 90s, when I was in college, the only people that wore them were edgy, alternative people. Bugle Boy and Levi’s were more mainstream here at the time.

Not in Texas. Anyone who could afford those had them. Pretty mainstream in my high school.

They were kind of Alt back then. I found them at “Merry Go Round” or “Gadzooks”. For a couple of years, my entire wardrobe came from those stores. I guess it was kind of alt. I was listening to Alt Rock, makes sense I would wear alt clothes.

cuz they were EXPENSIVE for its time. I settled for Bugle Boys. From Caldors. 😆

I found at pair at the Lazarus (now Macy’s) basement (where all the close-outs went to live & were discounted more each week) for $19.45. I wore them until the zipper stopped staying up and still have them in jeans drawer 36 years later. lol. And I was an alternative kid.

There was a sweater my sister got in the 80s. Then I wore it as a hand me down when I was 8 years old. After that my grandma got it somehow, and wore it for years. When she died in 2010, I found it in her things. And now I wear it again.
I love little pieces of family history like this!

It is truly awesome!

I remember kids in middle school looking for the zipper tag (girbaud) or triangle on the back pocket (guess) to see if you were fancy pants or not in our area.
I was glad to see that fad pass quickly. $70+ is a lot now for a pair of jeans - even more so in 90s dollars!

Ours looked for the fly tags. Horizontal was these Girbaud’s, and vertical was Cavaricci.
RealtorRVACity@reddit
I had two or three pairs of their pleated pants that I wore the shit out of.

Girbaud and Pepe jeans were the best in the early 90's

I still remember how much I had to white and beg for my parents to get me a pair of $80 Girbaud jeans. Can’t believe I actually got them.
NorseYeti@reddit (OP)
I don’t remember mine being that high. Mine had leather pockets with denim everywhere else.
Mobile_Aioli_6252@reddit
I know! I think I paid $60 for mine, back in 1991 - a forture for jeans
Creative-Ad-9489@reddit
Did you find his Z.Cavaricci pants too?
NorseYeti@reddit (OP)
Sadly, no. I did love Cavaricci’s for a couple of years.

I remember the preppies and their obsession with all those faux-lux brands LOL
Mindy3@reddit
I recall wearing perfectly tight-rolled jeans with this. Great memory. 💜

Very sweet :) I hope you wear it again!

I will!

Remember that one time you found out your parents are people?
NorseYeti@reddit (OP)
No, I get that…it was that he kept this particular shirt. What made him keep this, rather a brand he knew?
Aushos-74@reddit
It was probably more sentimental than anything. I’ve got some random things in my closet from when my boys were teens.
Neat_Ad_3268@reddit
As an old head, I can tell you that brand was Everything!
Aushos-74@reddit
Great find! Loved my Girbaud jeans, went good with my Esprit backpack and pop swatch
guzzijason@reddit
Mmm… I had some sweet purple Girbaud jeans. Often paired with a Diamonds And Pearls concert T.
txr2023@reddit
I had the mustard yellow one. lol
NorseYeti@reddit (OP)
I had one pair of their jeans. I was more of a fan of the Cavaricci’s.
