I think I like KOTH so much because I don't really identify with any of the characters, never lived anywhere like Arlen, but they are all very fleshed out to the point of being able to relate to any of them at various times just on a human level. One of the best written animated (or not) shows ever, even when being completely silly.
Ah. It's basically my childhood from rural Ohio. Each character is someone I know and generally don't care much for. Daria had much of my friend group represented.
I like King of the Hill, but I have to skip all Peggy-centric episodes on a rewatch. The first few seasons were fine, but then someone decided rampant narcissism and a delusional amount of self-confidence were going to be her primary character traits around season three or four.
I'm just reminded of all the little B-plots where Peggy is jealous of Bobby. When she writes that essay that he gets credit for and she's losing her shit, not because he cheated on his school work, but because she wants the validation. When he upgrades her "propane maniacs" idea to the much catchier "propaniacs." When he starts learning how to cook and Hank finds out he likes Bobby's cooking better. When Bobby has his first breakup and she rubs in how her relationship is rock solid after decades but his only lasted a few weeks.
There are so many examples of her just being a shitty person to her own family in the later seasons. It really made me hate her as a character.
That's narcissists for you. She wants to please everyone, for everyone to love her and recognize how much she does for them. Not realizing that she's actually doing it for herself.
And like a lot of narcissists, she would be a totally likeable person if only she wasn't so worried about everyone loving her.
Oh, sure. I'm not saying it's not an accurate depiction. I'm just saying I don't want to watch it. It's not entertaining, and I'm not watching King of the Hill for a textbook accurate depiction of a psychiatric disorder.
Every single time I am writing and end the sentence with a preposition, i can hear that line in my head. Then i have to rewrite it and find a better word with which I can end the sentence.
and it could be explained, even in a small way. zero of my students were able to explain 6 7 to me, nor any of their other brainrot. itās completely without context. it doesnāt even come āfromā anywhere.
Exactly. It's actually a good example of the difference I see in generations. A hand drawn animation written by a guy with a quirky creative vision and a talent for making funny characters vs something that makes no sense, took no effort, and even comes from a song that is way shittier than literally any rap song you ever heard get played in the 90s.
Donāt know why youāre getting downvoted for this, itās 100% true. The 6 7 thing is just as funny to these kids as āI need TP for my bungholeā or any number of random Ren & Stimpy quotes was for us, and believe me our parents thought it was just as stupid.
That's because today's kids brains are so fucked by brain rot. It's not a question of whether kids find it funny, it's whether it has any value as something to even find funny.
No, they're not. One is a funny looking guy with a funny voice, being even more silly than usual because he's hopped up on sugar, saying and doing various absurd things. I'm sure it was annoying for adults at the time but there was at least some performance and theatricality required to imitate Cornholio
lol true - people are so disconnected these days they have disconnected humor and idioms- reminds me of the simpsons episode where they donāt even know if their being sarcastic anymore
That's exactly what adults said about us in the 90s. They called us disconnected and we wore that like a badge of honor.Ā
My kid is 14 and the memes that he laughs at are very foreign to me. They seem low effort, asinine, and make no sense. But those are the same things out parents said about Beavis and Butthead, Ren and Stimpy, etc. I think it's ridiculous, but I'll leave the "kids these days" and "back in my day" tropes to the boomers.Ā
Yep. I mean, my Gen alpha kid who has been into the whole 6-7 thing finds Cornholio hilarious! She hasn't even seen it, but has been known to come into my room with her shirt over her head, declaring herself to be Cornholio.
As I recall, the first "viral video" on the Internet which had to shared via an endless chain of email forwarding was the South Park Christmas Card animation of Jesus vs Santa Claus. And South Park is still going.Ā
I named my truck Rick James because I hit my friends car that he named Charlie Murphy, then I yell unity at him. Granted it was just a tap and we were parking but it was really funny , ahh to be in my 20s again
Unlike 6 7, you had to embrace the cringe and commit to that bit: shirt pulled up over your head, voice to sound like Beavers, elbows at 90 degrees. Only then did you get to say, āI am the great cornholio. Give me TP for my bunghole!ā
This is a good update of the similar meme about the halls of high school being a war zone the morning after the Rick James episode of Chapelle Show aired.
There is a Beavis toilet paper holder that is actually kinda hilarious. Not posting a pic or a link bc I don't want anybody to think I'm a bot or a shill for some company, but I saw it a few weeks ago and thought it was so funny.

At least her narcissism generally manifests in her trying to help people, (whether or not she does is a different issue).
