Detail I found interesting: Of course the bottom of his shoe is immaculately clean. He's on a hermetically sealed ship that self cleans. The dirt from the holodeck isn't real, the transporter filters wouldn't allow planetary contaminants onboard.

The Picard maneuver.

Kirk would never sit in a chair like that. NuTrek is such garbage.

I don’t know which specific episode this is from but I’m willing to bet that it’s one where Picard was under some alien or outside influence, since this is so out of character for him. It speaks to how well written these characters were, to be able to make that conclusion. Unless the conclusion is wrong, in which case never mind, I guess Picard was just chill right then.

Season 1 episode 7. Just watched it.

I believe you are thinking of "Allegiance," and that was my first thought too, but alas AI helped me locate the episode as "Lonely Among Us," which is another episode when Picard was under some alien influence, haha.

"Lonely Among Us" from S1. Literally watched it last night.

"Lonely Among Us"
I had to look up the script.
CRUSHER: I'm concerned that you've suddenly turned the ship away from it's course.
PICARD: What's happened to your mind, Doctor? The search for knowledge is always our primary mission. I'm sorry, I really am too busy for this kind of nonsense. Do I have to call Security to force you to report to the Sickbay?
CRUSHER: No, sir.

(Someone uses a florescent green lasso on Riker)
RIKER: What the hell?
SELAY: Sorry. Wrong species.
RIKER: Riker to Security Chief..
(I had to include that last scene, lol)

this is also the episode where Data smokes a huge pipe in the briefing room and keeps saying "indubitably!" because he's been reading Sherlock Holmes.

The prequel to Elementary, Dear Data. Ah, Season one TNG, has its weirdness, and its charm.
