Anybody know what this plane may have been doing?

Saw flying over East Anglia (Norfolk), UK just moments ago, originating from near Sheffield.
It was one of the grey planes pictured in the centre of the formation pictured.
Flight radar says they're from European SAO. From what I can tell from a quick google ESAO works in the Aerial Data Acquisition field..

Could be survey or mapping work if ESAO is involved, stuff like aerial imaging/LiDAR for infrastructure, agriculture, or environmental monitoring. Formations sometimes happen for calibration, training, or when multiple platforms are collecting data in a corridor.
If you pull the hex and altitude profile from FlightRadar, that can narrow it down a lot. Slightly tangential, but Ive got a post on how to sanity-check public flight data (and what you can infer from it) here: https://blog.promarkia.com/
