Gillian Anderson playing the X-Files game. Questions in description

how common was it for speakers to be mounted straight to a monitor? I've never seen that. and does anyone know what that little switch looking thing is that's also stuck to the bottom right side of the monitor? I'm assuming those are all just adhered to the monitor aftermarket?

I never knew that there was an X-Files game, going to have to have a hunt. Has anyone actually played it, and it is worth it?

I played it. If you liked that genre of games or were really into X-files you might enjoy it. I was a kid/teenager and got frustrated with it (and most fmv adventures), so I never finished it.

I had it when it came out and remember enjoying it a lot. Although I was a big X-Files fan, so it might hit differently if you're just "meh" about the franchise.

It's fine. Tons of fmv footage, not great gameplay but not the worst of the fmv adventure genre.

The computer I had growing up had the speakers integrated into the monitor

Gillian Anderson, isn't she beautiful?

And like a fine wine, getting better with age.

Absolutely!

Speakers mounted like that were uncommon but not unknown.

Those speakers look pretty weird and out of place there, they might have just glued some lightweight speakers onto the monitor. There were some more attractive speakers designed to be mounted to the monitor, but it wasn't very common. Not sure about the switch, maybe it's an on/off switch for those speakers.

I had a 14" monitor back in the day that came with shielded speakers mounted in the sides of the monitor. Circa 1993. The switch is for volume.

Those look to be Cambridge SoundWorks PCWorks speakers. They came with stands and also Velcro for mounting as shown. The part attached to the lower side of the monitor is a volume control.

Dang, did you have to look that up or did you know that? Exact model and everything, interesting design choice that Velcro was included in the packaging but at that point I would probably just rest the speakers on top of the monitor

Hah! Well I recognized the cubes with the CSW badge on the front. Pretty popular back then. Had to look up the exact model though. As for the monitor attachment, it was a pretty wild time for PC accessories. Lots of, er, "creative" ideas.
