Movie of the year btw 🥹👎

Fantastic. I cried when Rocky offered to save Grace & when grace came back
Symbiome@reddit
The movie is a total disappointment since it’s just a mix of things that already exist. I don’t like that the whole story feels worn-out and unoriginal. There are a lot of illogical and dumb scenes that have nothing to do with real life. All the hype around this movie seems paid for to me! The movie is complete garbage!
ironsidemaks@reddit
Unfortunately I have to say that this film is totally overrated. The theme is not deep, it's not funny as like a comedy film. Maybe some dramatic things are good and effects are also good.
IVisitedYourMom@reddit
And also, even tho its SF, its so unrealistic...

It was lots of fun

Overrated. It's a good film, to be clear, but I honestly thought I was gonna go in to watch the next Interstellar with how some people made the film out to be. I was wildly confused by the end of the film. It was a good fun feel good sci-fi flick but an amazing masterpiece? I didn't think so. I just couldn't see what was so amazing about it to some.

I have not seen it yet but casting gosling as a scientist is absurd

I was excited to watch this (loved the Martian) but I found it to be so bad. Like almost everything in this movie sucked.
Yes, Gosling was OK. Rocky was fun. But everything else felt fake: The weird, convoluted plot. Shit was happening too fast with no proper explanation or depth. Gosling's character was written to be very flat, no depth, just goofy and quirky (yet hot ofc). Marvel type humor. There was no sense of what was at stake ie saving humanity.
It felt like a silly buddy adventure awkwardly wraped in a sci-fi packaging. I haven't read the book and while I heard its good, the movie seemed to be made for kids or young adults. I will get downvoted but I actually regret spending money to watch it.
jaleach@reddit
I hate Marvel "humor". Was watching Dr. Strange because I had nothing better to do, and he'd just blurt out these awkward jokes that always landed with a thud. There's no way a guy with his education and skills would talk this way. No way. Every time he did it, it took me right out of the movie. The sequel was even worse with it.
Fun_Selection8699@reddit (OP)
I haven't read the book either but things were definitely left out, like how Grace (Gosling's character) was forced to go to space against his will. It was shown in the film but how he felt about it wasn't explored much also I heard Eva Stratt (Sandra Hüller's character) isn't as nice in the book.
Lvl100Centrist@reddit
Yeah the movie def felt like stuff was missing or condensed to make the cut. Maybe if we get a 4 hour directors cut the movie will make sense, but we won't.
I also hate the "reluctant astronaut" trope, like they did in Interstellar. Grace being sedated and forced to go to space was pretty dumb. He just didn't feel like a plausible person, I mean Rocky was more human than him in some regards.
If Rocky was a hallucination he created in his mind to cope with the stress the movie would have been much better imho.

I like scifi I havent watched it yet, should I?

Overrated imo.

yes bro, the movie is great

Haven't watched it. It's funny also since Ryan Gosling is absurdly dumb and simple in real life, and playing some super intelligent guy just doesn't work. He's very dumb and not really educated, since he was always just dancing and acting since a very young age. He also has dyslexia and dropped out of schol at 17.
Yavannia@reddit
I mean he is an actor what did you expect him to do?
arhisekta92@reddit
he's way more relatable than 99.99% of hollywood.
Fun_Selection8699@reddit (OP)
I don't think calling Ryan Gosling dumb is very nice

Interstellar + E.T. = Project Hail Mary, it was a good movie, but felt like it was comprised with parts of other movies.

It would have been interesting if it managed to kill Nolan.

i didn't like that its 70% comedy, not funny one. it's hard to take seriously other parts, when there is so many jokes

Whenever there's a glimpse of S in a science fiction movie, it can be good. It seems like the pioneering 60/70s spirit of humanity has largely left us, so I am very happy when a movie like this releases.
To me, this movie feels like it combines the better elements of Interstellar and the Martian, and packages it into a whole, where smart is smart, funny is funny and sad is sad.
Third_Rate_Duelist_@reddit
I don't think it's peak fiction, but it could possibly be the best movie of the year and I agree it's really good.
Fun_Selection8699@reddit (OP)
I hope Ryan Gosling gets an Oscar
arhisekta92@reddit
hands down his best role, and he's had quite a few of those

I haven't watched the movie yet but I read the book about a year ago. I absolutely loved it. Weir has a way of communicating science to people with no such inclinations, like myself, which I think is very important. Looking forward to watching the movie too.
