5080 or 9070 xt?

I’m leaning over to a 9070 xt but I wanted your opinions cuz this is for my first pc. I could get the extra money I need for the 5080 within a week but I don’t know if it’s really worth that huge gap of money for the small upgrade it is.
Left_Sign_6964@reddit
I had a Rtx 5080 and sold it when prices went crazy and bagged 500 quid buying a 9070xt pure. I play 4k and have barely seen a difference to be honest. Still get 100fps plus on arc raiders with everything on full. I’d get the 9070xt personally
f1rstx@reddit
If you can amount of the price gap in a week easily, whats to think even. Get 5080
Ge_R42_@reddit (OP)
It’s more of “is it really worth spending almost double” than “if you can afford it then get it”
f1rstx@reddit
It is 20% faster, easy to overclock closer to 4090 level, has better feature stack, it is gonna easily run Path Traced games at 1440p with far better visuals compared to 9070XT, it will hold far better resale value (look how in demand 3080s still), especially if FSR5/UDNA rumors true and RDNA4 being stopgap generation - demand on 2nd hand market gonna be bad. Personally - if i could afford 5080 i'd pick it over 9070XT 10 times out of 10, considering price difference over use span gonna be not that big.
MrMPFR@reddit
5080 is a joke. Get a 5070 TI instead if possible.
9070 XT on sale or used is a good idea though. Expecting resell value to plummet when RDNA 5 and 50 series lands but the net total upgrade cost might still be unchanged or less compared to NVIDIA.
f1rstx@reddit
MrMPFR@reddit
You can OC the 5070 TI and get it close to a 5080.
I know, but it's hitting diminishing returns beyond. 5070 TI. Then again 5070 TI is shitty rn, due to inflated pricing, but 5080 is even worse. Really no one should get a GPU rn unless they can get a real bargain or have so enough money on hand that they don't care.
There's no need to buy a 5080 now, when nextgen from both companies will embarrass anything on the market rn. Deprecation of 5080 more severe than 9070XT. That card is already priced aggressively + whenever the nextgen lands that high end card is gonna more than half its value on used market.
Don't be surprised if AT2 provides 4090 PT and Raster for 699. NVIDIA gonna get aggressive again fs. not seen since 30 series.
f1rstx@reddit
you can OC 5080 aswell.
what if i need 5080+ performance?
MrMPFR@reddit
Sure but it's well past the FPS/$ sweetspot.
No one needs that much perf.
There's your answer.
f1rstx@reddit
Fps/$ is irrelevant. Choice of part if far more nuanced
MrMPFR@reddit
Not irrelevant + not the only thing I said
Ge_R42_@reddit (OP)
U are a great convincer, u should become a salesman😭
f1rstx@reddit
Nothing wrong with 9070XT - it's great GPU for gamers on a budget, however if you can offord better stuff - why not.
Australasian25@reddit
By that standard, I would get a 5090 FE.
But some of us dont like overpaying for what we use.
Thats why I stuck 9070xt for 1440p on linux
f1rstx@reddit
Extra week for something superior to use for next 3-5 years? Nobrainer.
Australasian25@reddit
Its pretty hard for me to justify that.
I only game in 1440p games, I use linux so amd gpu is most suitable for me.
If 9070xtx existed however, I might have gotten it
f1rstx@reddit
Cool - good for you, but noone cares about Linux - it's very niche OS for enthusiasts, which is even now slower than Windows even with AMD gpus.
Australasian25@reddit
Regardless of whether linux is better or not.
The main point is, some of us wouldnt spend too much on a gpu. We would rather spend it on other stuff in our lived.
f1rstx@reddit
Why are you projecting your views to OP though? He can afford 5080 - the moment you have budget for some item and superior product fits into budget then whole “price to performance” idea goes out the window
Australasian25@reddit
Its less about projecting to OP
My comment was a fair point of view.
OP is undecided, i put forward my point of view about not purchasing a 5090 even though I have the money for my specific reason.
End of the day its OPs money so he does what he wants.
f1rstx@reddit
he is buying HYTE case and 300$ NZXT AIO - he can afford better gpu
TinyDesktop@reddit
you should choose based on your monitor , it's the only logical choice in these cases
Ge_R42_@reddit (OP)
Got a 1440p, but I could get new ones
UniversityGlad2877@reddit
If you're staying at 1440p: – No ray tracing : RX 9070 XT (better value) – With ray tracing / future-proof : RTX 5080 (If u care): NVIDIA also has more stable drivers and DLSS, which can give better performance and image quality in supported games.
Ge_R42_@reddit (OP)
Yeah I think it’s probably better to get a 9070 xt, cuz then I’d want to get a 4k monitor which costs even more
Benphyre@reddit
Yeah its better to go 4k with 5080. 9070xt will be wiser choice to maximize your current monitor
Calm-Bid-8256@reddit
I've had a 9070xt since July last year at 1440p and i can tell you it is perfect at that resolution. I'm confident i will get at least 5-6 years use out of this GPU before i feel the need to upgrade. More than enough raw raster performance and FSR4.1 is actually really close to DLSS now.
And you can easily use raytracing with it. It's only pathtracing where Nvidia shows significant advantages.
First game i played when i got this GPU was Cyberpunk 2077 with mostly maxed out settings and raytracing at max (no pathtracing). I had stable 90+ FPS no matter what was happening on screen
UniversityGlad2877@reddit
I have an RTX 5060. If you're playing CPU-heavy games, the GPU matters less, so the RX 9070 XT is already enough. If you want ray tracing or max settings, go RTX 5080.
Calm-Bid-8256@reddit
The 9070xt is very capable at raytracing at 1440p. It's only pathtracing where you have to go Nvidia.
Sic_Sic_Six@reddit
5080 if you can afford it. Do your own research. You will find a lot of bias posts here. Including my own....
You should know what you want (or need).
Good luck 🤙
UniversityGlad2877@reddit
And regarding which settings you want to play with, if you want to do ray tracing, then you should go for the RTX 5080.
SituationSmooth9165@reddit
You can do raytracing easily on a 9070xt. Just not pathtracing
CobblerGreat5529@reddit
If you care about max fps like esports get 5080 but honestly a 9070xt is enough and you can spend some money on other components. An olde will be a much better upgrade if you don’t have one but if the gpu is the only thing that you need to upgrade get the 5080
Ge_R42_@reddit (OP)
I’m buying an entirely new pc currently the price is 3400 but if I were to go with a 5080 then that would shoot up to around 4100
Fearless-Store-1453@reddit
$3400!! What the hell is in that thing if you have a 9070xt gpu? That seems very overpriced
Ge_R42_@reddit (OP)
And also got 9850x3d, 32gb ddr5 ram, 2tb ssd, hyte y70 touch infinity case, nzxt kraken elite aio, basically dream pc for first pc
f1rstx@reddit
If you're ready to overpay for useless things - atleast overpay for something that actually gives you performance - GPU.
Ge_R42_@reddit (OP)
U caught me, might as well go for a 5090
Fearless-Store-1453@reddit
Yeah, once you said aesthetics I just knew it was gonna be an all white build
Ge_R42_@reddit (OP)
I like aesthetics.
CobblerGreat5529@reddit
For that price i guess you have 32gb ddr5 great cpu etc , so in that case a 5080 will be better
Sic_Sic_Six@reddit
What are the specs on both. Or are they identical aside from the GPU choice? Makes sense I guess, given the price of 5080s now.
Ge_R42_@reddit (OP)
Identical besides gpu, a new 5080 cost 1300😭
PHIGBILL@reddit
5080 is probably the worst price to performance GPU on the market, the 9070XT is more comparable, performance wise, to the 5070ti, and even then I'd argue the price difference isn't worth it just for additional DLSS features.
MozzaReddit@reddit
Don't go AMD. Don't go NVIDIA. There's no winning tbh hahah. But seriously from my experience, NVIDIA is still superior in every way when it comes to driver support, I've had more issues with my 9070xt in the near year I've owned it than I ever have with any NVIDIA card. So make of that what you will, I wish I went with a 5080.
Due-Adhesiveness-744@reddit
I have the 9070 XT OC. 100% worth the price.
5080 is decent, but not worth the current price.
9070 XT performs better in some games and 5080 better on others.
I think for the vast price difference, 9070 XT is a no brainer.
PeanutAble1916@reddit
the human eye can only see nvidia logo
snipsuper415@reddit
The 5080 out performs the 9070 easily. If can afford it, go get it. The only reason to not to get the 5080 is simply fps per dollar at this point. The 5080 is ballpark 10% better in terms of fps at the same settings.
Fearless-Store-1453@reddit
Im not even going to check the current prices of these, but I have the 7900XT and play on a 4k 165hz monitor with no issues. 9070xt will be even better and be a better value per dollar than the 5080. 5080 will likely give you a slight edge in max performance, but up to you if its worth the price (personal opinion is no, 9070xt is definitely enough)
gibbarish@reddit
If you can afford it 5080 is obviously superior.. but I have a 9070xt myself and it slaps. But 620$ is a lot less than whatever a 5080 is today
