Tomcat Day on the Hornet pt 2

The Air Group restoration team on USS Hornet moved our F-14 down to the Hangar Bay to start a restoration today. Had to pull the nose to fit, but here she is in HB1 with our FM2 and F18. Quite a lineup.

Tangent but I read something recently that said they’re considering moving Hornet to SF, is that true?

There have been some preliminary discussions between the board and the Port of San Fransisco, but no decision has been made. Any possible move is likely years away and the Hornet remains committed to the Alameda community. The main issue is that the current location, though historic and important, has guest accessibility issues, making it increasingly challenging to support our mission and operational costs. USS Intrepid in NYC and USS Midway in San Diego with their easy accessibility have more visitors in a month than Hornet has all year.

Thanks for that. I had family based there and support the current location but reality is SF would be better for both the ship which would get a huge boost in traffic and the city which would get a notable attraction same as NY or SD as you mentioned.

Fellow Bay Area enthusiast! Loved visiting the Hornet a few years back before kids….more than a few years at this point I guess. Midway is next on my list.
