Why don't people want to pedal? I recently got an ebike and it's basically a regular mountain bike with a motor and battery on it. All I use is pedal assist (or no assist at all). Why not buy an escooter with a seat? Way cheaper and more efficient if you just want to sit on it.

Yeah I can see your point

I've owned a Heybike YM1 for 250 miles now and it's worked good so far. Had a few issues at the start, but I fixed those. Cost me $440 from Amazon. Wouldn't recommend for a commuter, but it's a great weekend bike.

If you are looking for a fat tire bike, check out the coswheel CT20. They also have a higher powered model called the CT20s, but it's a bit above your budget.
I've found best prices for that on Alibaba.
It's the only manufacturer of lower cost e-bikes I would have any confidence in, and even then, they have some terrible models, but their mid to high range stuff is built quite well.
SENTINALBUNNY@reddit (OP)
I’m gonna try to steer clear from alibaba 😭😭
Murky-Smoke@reddit
Honestly man... If your budget is that low, it's where you need to look for best value for your money.
Just click the filter for verified sellers, and pick the manufacturer (Dongguan) for Coswheel. They been around for over a decade, and they decent e-bikes, whereas most at your price point would be absolute garbage.

I think I just need to keep saving
Murky-Smoke@reddit
I get the apprehension, but the reality is that manufacturers like Coswheel are the places where all these off brand "value" e-bikes like MacFox are custom built and re-labeled/branded for a reseller, and you're paying a premium for what is often a lower spec and lower quality e-bike.
When you buy direct (as long as you do your research) you're getting the benefit of saving because of the vertical integration of these manufacturers.
You cut the middle man out and dodge the markup at each phase of transfer.
Look into it at the very least. I wouldn't be suggesting something not worth your time.
JSSOnTheRun@reddit
Take a look at the Duotts c29. It’s a decent build at a fair price. It will do 28 mph which is plenty on a bike path.
FlowerCrowss@reddit
You don't sound old enough for a 30mph capable ebike. Sorry kid. Both for your safety and the safety of others in your community, start with a class 1 or 2 limited to 20mph if you're at least 14 years old. Otherwise stick to regular bikes for a little longer.
These things are serious responsibities, not toys, and you can easily mess up your body, break bones, even at 20mph. At 30mph a crash has a significant potential to be fatal even with a bike helmet. Especially concerning when you're trying to sacrifice quality for speed, and on your first ever ebike.
You can't just throw yourself into the road on a 30mph ebike that young and inexperienced. You probably haven't even begun to grasp the rules of the road knowledge necessary to safely ride a 20mph ebike. You need $2000 to get a decent quality budget 28mph class 3 ebike, and you've gotta be 16 to go that fast legally on an ebike almost everywhere. 30mph ebikes aren't legal, but I don't disagree with adults riding them with discretion. You are not an adult and you have no business looking for a vehicle capable of this speed yet.

I’m one year younger then 14 tho and I have a dirt bike but I only ride that in more rural areas of course and that thing can hit like maybe 40
FlowerCrowss@reddit
That definitely helps, but the difference as you mentioned is rural areas, plus the protective equipment you wear on a dirtbike which I doubt you want to equip everytime you ride your ebike, as I imagine it'd be your main mode of transit.
Urban streets have far more conflicts and things you learn to be on alert for or pay attention to than rural roads, night and day difference. Especially on 2 wheels. It's an acquired balance of staying cognizant of your surroundings, other drivers whom often don't expect, see, or look for 2 wheels, and how you are perceived and expected to act by other road users.
Defensive riding techniques are mandatory as a vulnerable road user, just as much as practice & confidence. I often see inexperienced ebike riders, teens, riding on the sidewalk at speed. Drivers turn across or pull out over these sidewalks, often at spots with bushes, trees, fences, or other obstacles preventing eyesight until the last moment. This is just one example of unconfident or inexperienced riding behavior that can lead to serious injury, another is hugging the shoulder on a road without a bike lane, or going the wrong way in a bike lane.
It took me a year to truly figure it out when i began riding a regular bike in the streets at 14. And i know now 100% at 21yo that my 14yo self would have absolutely no business learning that on a 28mph+ ebike. The lack of confidence & experience, risk of bodily harm, and immature brain with those capabilities is a recipe for disaster.
You could probably start with a 20mph ebike at your age, but be very very careful on the streets!

Sounds good bro
FlowerCrowss@reddit
No problem :D
derping1234@reddit
30 mph, throttle only is not considered an e bike in most jurisdictions. Also an 8 year old probably shouldn’t be riding what is technically an unregistered motorbike.
SENTINALBUNNY@reddit (OP)
I mean I’m 13 not 8 big difference
derping1234@reddit
I get being young and stupid, but my god this is stupid. An illegal motorbike is still illegal. And a super cheap illegal motorbike ridding by a child is a deathtrap. Maybe talk to your parents about wanting a motorbike…
SENTINALBUNNY@reddit (OP)
My parents say it’s cool as long as it has pedals on it so it looks kinda like a bike and you sound old dude how old are you ?
derping1234@reddit
Old enough that I could be your dad. Unlike your parents I am familiar with the legality surrounding e-bikes. A 30 mph throttle operated ‘e-bike’ falls outside of the class 1/2/3 scheme in the US and would therefore be categorised as a motorbike. Did your parents say it is okay to buy a motorbike and ride it illegally on a public road?
SENTINALBUNNY@reddit (OP)
Naw I don’t know where you live friend but I asked my school officer on Friday and he said as long as you ride carefully and not on side walks your good but no I haven’t asked my parents that but I know my all my friends have e bikes and my one friend Logan did a wheelie in front of a police officer he couldn’t care less in my town cops Reilly don’t care and from story’s I’ve heard from my friends if you do get confronted they just want you to go home
derping1234@reddit
Just get a compliant e-bike. Throttle only 30 mph e-bikes are illegal and you could be one complaint away from having it destroyed.
SENTINALBUNNY@reddit (OP)
Alright sounds good I appreciate you
MajorFollowing7358@reddit
See if somebody will co-sign for you or give you the money
SENTINALBUNNY@reddit (OP)
I’ll ask my grandpa tomorrow for a loan he’s rich I think it’s a good idea
Worried_Document8668@reddit

MajorFollowing7358@reddit
Yup ripped off and injured I've done it all I've had it done all to me I mean
SENTINALBUNNY@reddit (OP)
That sounds bad
SENTINALBUNNY@reddit (OP)
I mean yeah I know I jus thought I would add that
Worried_Document8668@reddit
nothing with those kind of specs and a quality build at 1k
SENTINALBUNNY@reddit (OP)
Your pulling my leg bro
Worried_Document8668@reddit
no, i'm serious. Quality bikes don't come at 1k. you might get the spec.but not a quality, reliable build
SENTINALBUNNY@reddit (OP)
Not even like a stock build for one k like how much are we talking for a quilty build
Worried_Document8668@reddit
2k+ for something you can get serviced locally
ooa3603@reddit
The absolute cheapest but still quality new ebikes you could get with those specs, are in the $1200-1400 range:
https://ride1up.com/product/roadster-v3/
https://lectricebikes.com/products/xpress-750-high-step-ebike
You might be able to get clearance or refurbished bikes for about $1000, but the likely won't hit 30 mph:

Wait guys how about a ridstar q20 it’s like just about a 600 dollars on Amazon right now
Worried_Document8668@reddit
those are proven fire hazards and have an active cpsc warning
SENTINALBUNNY@reddit (OP)
Oh yeah your right it’s fine I’ll keep a fire extinguisher on me 😭😭😭
SENTINALBUNNY@reddit (OP)
But it’s like the yvy but that’s just ridstar renamed
whattteva@reddit
What you're asking for doesn't exist. Even regular quality analog push bikes generally already costs $800+ (Specialized Sirrus X). And you're looking for an ebike that can go 30mph lol.
SENTINALBUNNY@reddit (OP)
Ok so what’s the cheapest thing I can get
whattteva@reddit
I mean, if what you're looking is the cheapest thing and you don't care about quality at all, just browse aliexpress and get the cheapest thing there.
SENTINALBUNNY@reddit (OP)
I mean I care of course but I’m just trying to get one before summer and I got only like2 months
whattteva@reddit
My advice to you as someone who's done this exercise and tried to be cheap the first time around, It's better to buy once and cry once than to buy multiple times and cry multiple times.
SENTINALBUNNY@reddit (OP)
Your probably right thanks
mudramucha@reddit
I have the euy bike brand f6 model. It's technically a $1300 bike but they frequently have sales! I paid $700 for mine last year and I've put almost 3k miles on it. It has both throttle and pedal assist. It goes up to 28mph but I very rarely take it up that fast. I love it so much and I recommend to everyone!! I'm actually considering getting a second one so I can have a friend ride with me :)
SENTINALBUNNY@reddit (OP)
Sounds good I’ll think about this thanks guys !
Nova_Hunter@reddit
LMAO
foxfirek@reddit
Maybe check craigslist for something used. If you are on a budget that's likely your best bet.
That said isn't over 30 and no pedal assist no longer legal? That may be only where I live.
SENTINALBUNNY@reddit (OP)
Ok sounds good I’ll check this out
