CPU Temps hitting 95C under 100% load. Is it time for a repaste?

CPU is Ryzen 7 5700X.
I built my PC back in 2024, but the paste I used (Thermal Grizzly Kryonaut) seems to dry out quickly from what I've read. I'm guessing now is the time to repaste? I'm thinking of using Arctic MX6 this time.

MX7 is the GOAT as of now
LetsGoToAlice@reddit (OP)
Does it last longer than the MX4?
Pragitya@reddit
Yep check iGor’s lab. Google it. They do a lot of testing and rate them.
MX7 is currently #2 just behing Halnize p17 (my spelling might be incorrect)
But mx7 is really good. MX4 is a lot more wattery

Thanks for the info. I decided to order some MX-7.

Happy to help

MX6 is great.

the new mx7

And even the thermal paste given with the fan would provide basic performance far away from what OP have
I have this cooler too since yesterday on an 7800X3D, and I can't reach 75°c in CPU burn test with a mild underworlt -negative curve @ -15), this cooler is rock solid, specially regarding the low price
aragorn18@reddit
That's really high for a 65W CPU. What cooler do you have?
LetsGoToAlice@reddit (OP)
I got a Peerless Assassin 120 SE
aragorn18@reddit
That's a really good cooler. I feel like something is wrong. Thermal paste shouldn't dry out that fast and a cooler like that should be able to compensate for bad thermal paste application.

It's (probably) not dust build-up either. I just blasted the inside of the PC case with an electronic air duster and I'm still hitting 95C
aragorn18@reddit
Did you remove the protective plastic film on the bottom of the cooler?
ignitionnight@reddit
Until OP answers I'm assuming this was the issue.
odkfn@reddit
This is what I think the issue will be

And, add to this, is the air flow ok? (positive pressure from the front panel of the PC whit one or two 14mm fans)
Are the CPU fan in the right position (booth fans)? (they should push the air out from the face of the PC tower to the rear of the computer and follow this logic air flow)
Is the PC case able to evacuate the air flow in the back? Have you try with the open panel to see if it make a difference? (that would mean that you air flow is bad)
kind_bros_hate_nazis@reddit
Now I'm invested in this. OP what was the temp in the past for this
Apprehensive-AR@reddit
Something really; really wrong !
I just buy one for my 7800X3D, install it yesterday to replace my Noctua NH-U12S who can't evacuate the heat of my CPU
And well, the Pearless Assasin is keeping it around 43°c idle, 54°c in basic task, and goes up to 73°c maximum at full charge on all 4 cores with OCCT, at 23°c in the room. Knowing the thermal limit is 90°c (my goal is to keep it at 80°c max even in full summer)
Fun fact, whatever the (2) fans run at 20%, 50%, 70% or 100%, the temperature basically stay the exact same
I still put a curve up to 100 at 85°c in case something happen if I'm not in the room, but mostly this inter-cooler seem to be essentially a passive heat evacuation who just need a little bit or air into it to evacuate the heat
So I can't hear it even at full charge in my Define R5
Well really happy of this purchase, 42 euros for the full black version, perfect "budget" cooler, not cheap at all but really good
Faolanth@reddit
High performance paste can definitely pump out or dry out that fast, something like MX-5/6 would last a lot longer and probably only run like 1C hotter
New_Macaron_4877@reddit
We have the same cooler 😍

I havent repasted my 5700x in almost 3 years now and its just a cheap deepcool z3, using aio and your cooler is way better than mine.. mine dont even hit 63c even in cpu intensive games, cinebench? well thats another discussion.
MagicPistol@reddit
I got my 5700x in 2022 and it's cooled by an old hyper 212. Temps stay under 80c. I don't even remember what paste I used. It was an ancient tube from old builds lol. Not sure how your temps are that high but you should definitely check the paste.
Longjumping-Report71@reddit
No yeah time for the remaster bud

Kryonaut is explicitly designed for high end competitive overclocking. They call out on their product page that it has a shorter lifespan.
MX-6 is a good expensive option, as is Noctua NH-H1 and Thermalright TF8. They all perform very close to each other and Kryonaut in terms of temps. Thermal Grizzly Duronaut seems to out perform nearly all other pastes on the market by another degree or two in extreme heat loads and, unlike Kryonaut, is designed to last a long time. But really, any of these are going to be fine for a 5700X and you are more likely to see bigger temp differences between multiple applications of the same paste than between any of these in normal use.

I bought the MX-4 awhile back, still as gooey as the day i opened it. Arctic is pretty solid
