I am a greek american who is making my own wedding dress (tradition white etc etc) i want to include some traditional greek crosstiching like is found on folk costumes as a way to honor my yiayia who was an incredible cross sticher, but she never taught anyone the traditional designs. She was from peleponisos, does anyone have any good ideas?
So far all im getting is people rolling their eyes because modern greeks "dress like everyone else"- thank you i know i have been many times. And "if you want greek theme make it ancient greek"-not at all related to what im asking.
I really value the holding of culture through traditional crafts, and want to honor my families history, but also dont know how to, and its only men left who dont know anything.

I would suggest facebook because a lot of older people share their craft there. Usually in groups. Try το put "βελονάκι" in the search engine of fb and "παραδοσιακά κεντήματα". You will find A LOT. Ι tried it. They have thousands of participats but most are private. I am sure that if you write your request they will be THRILLED to help

I love this concept!!! Depending on the region you’re from, designs might vary. Look for the local folk history/tradition (λαογραφικά) museums or archives and you’ll find what you’re looking for!

https://fashionheritage.eu/greek-embroidery-aka-the-joy-of-life/ mentions several museums with examples of embroidery from that region in their collections. The PFF collection looks extensive, so you have have success reaching out to the foundation and asking for whatever specific support you’re hoping for.
