9800x3D vs 7800x3D and Best motherboard for AM5 upgrade?

A few days ago, I made a post here asking for the best CPU upgrade I can get for AM4 to avoid RAM prices... Just to wind up gunning for AM5 anyway lol.
Thankfully, I managed to snag a pristine set of Kingston FURY Renegade 32 GB CL32 6000mt/s sticks for $350 CAD (roughly 255 USD) on marketplace, which I feel like is a stellar deal all things considered... so now im on the hunt for an AM5 CPU and motherboard to round out the upgrade.
My budget is fairly strict as I didn't originally plan for this, so what makes the most sense here? All prices are in Canadian dollars.
CPU:
Ryzen 7 7800x3D - $400 - $450 on marketplace
Ryzen 7 9800x3D - $500 - $600 on marketplace
Motherboard:
Gigabyte B850 AORUS Elite Wifi 7 - $250 brand new at Canada Computers
Asus TUF Gaming B850-PLUS wifi - 220 BNIB on marketplace
The 9800x3d is out of my budget, but is the difference between CPU's that noticeable enough to be worth the upgrade? Furthermore, are tray CPUs trustworthy? and ofc, if you have a better suggestion for me, I'll look into it!
Thank you!

Get the 7800x3D, the 9800x3D is better but the price difference does not justify the performance difference between the 2, and for the motherboard always go for the new one due to warranty purpose especially the price difference is only 5$

This whole thread is if I even find a 7800x3D for a not terrible price lol are there any other options though? What about the none x3D’s is the difference that big?
crazybull02@reddit
I had a 7600 for a year and half then got the 7800x3d, both gpu bound with a 7800xt.
The only difference that I noticed was round times in civ 6 was crazy faster, but load times and fps were about the same, I didn't do a detailed before and after.
So the non x3d will be fine but if you're worried about 1% lows and games with a bunch of small calculations the x3d will be worth it.

I’d love to get a 7800x3D but it just seems impossible at the moment, marketplace has them firmly pegged at 500, the ones below that are over 2 hours away from me. The next best options for me seem to actually be a ryzen 5 7600x3D or a ryzen 7 9700x. What makes the most sense here? I was hoping for a 7800x3D for the best of both worlds but what can I do lol
crazybull02@reddit
Honestly I was happy with my 7600 but I had a nest set aside because I wanted a x3d, and found it a local Walmart.
I'm not sure how much better the two cores from the 9700x will be but I'm guessing by the time it matters you'll be looking for a zen 6/7 architecture upgrade, pulling an opinion out of my asset I would go with the x3d if they're the same price.
Berens835@reddit
Other the none X3D I would consider 7500F(6 core), 7700 and 9700, check out the Canada computer web site for the bundle price and if you live close to US border also check out the closest micro center close to you, last week week micro center has a 9800x3D bundle with 32gb X2 ram,Msi 870E-P pro, MONTECH hyper flow liquid cooler and a Corsair tower At case for just 999 usd, this is the best deal I have seen this year so far if it's still available in store
The_Machine80@reddit
Any board except asrock! I have a 7800x3d and a 9070xt. Im never cpu bound.
aragorn18@reddit
For what purpose? If primarily gaming, the 7800X3D is still an incredible CPU. Unless you have a VERY expensive GPU, you'll be GPU bound with either choice.
drewts86@reddit
Eh it really depends on what games OP is playing. MSFS, Path of Exile and Escape From Tarkov are all CPU-intensive games that will still see a huge benefit going with 9800 over 7800. Most game titles I would agree with you but it’s an important distinction to make.
un1qued@reddit
For EFT, Stalker 2 with mods, gaming+recording, Is 9800x3d worth it over 7800x3d, price differnce is $150?
JomuStudios@reddit (OP)
gaming + streaming i should have specified. and my gpu is the RTX 5070
aragorn18@reddit
I would save your money and get the 7800X3D. The performance increase is going to be less than 5% for your system.
JomuStudios@reddit (OP)
oh, yeah fair enough i'll do that, it fits in my budget anyway
UpstairsConnection57@reddit
I have a 5070ti and a 7800X3D and I have never had my CPU go above 60% usage even on the most CPU demanding games. It is usually much lower.
ScottyStellar@reddit
I have the aorus elite and it's going well for me but haven't used others! I also only have a 9600x tho.
Seems like you're ok on both just don't touch an asrock mobo!
teveherevere@reddit
I get an asus strix b650e-e gaming wifi from amazon. Like new condition, that was a steal. Will be enough for years. My starting point was x870e. But budget was closing... I dont mind, I think its a good mobo.
Comrade_Chyrk@reddit
For that price difference id go with the 7800x3d. Its only like 5% slower than the 9800x3d and you will be gpu bound anyways.
FrankThePilot@reddit
I have a 7800X3D and 5070Ti. I play shooters and factorio lately. Never been CPU bound. When I was posed with the same choice last fall I went with the 7800 because of the price difference for minimal increase in performance.
gankernation@reddit
What resolution are you going to playing at? 1440p and 4k the CPU works less
JomuStudios@reddit (OP)
i play at 1440p
gankernation@reddit
Yeah go with the 7800x3d better bang for the money. If your getting it used try to aim for $250 usd
Legendramon@reddit
For mobo, just avoid asrock and you’ll be fine. There would be zero performance difference between the 2 B850 boards you selected.
SweetBacon923@reddit
Any PCIE 5 B850 board on amazon.ca around $220. 7800x3D will be fine. start saving money for next X3D it will probably come out end of the year or beginning of next supported by AM5.
JomuStudios@reddit (OP)
unfortunately as far as i can tell there are none. Brand new are 290 minimum and the best deal i've found so far is that brand new gigabyte one from Canada Computers for 250. 220 and under are b650 boards as far as I can tell. is facebook marketplace trustworthy for boards if the seller says its brand new in box?
gotcha, 9800x3d isnt worth it then, and by that point i could proably recoupe the cost of this 7800x3d by selling it for the new one.

$224? www.amazon.ca/MSI-B850M-WiFi-Motherboard-mATX/dp/B0FC97YJBR
