Lonely Among Us (1:7) is, IMO, a great early episode. Watching Sir Patrick chew up just about the entire second half by himself is something of an acting genius.

If I recall, Sir Patrick required a bit of cajoling to take this role? So I appreciate early episodes like this that let him display his chops. Eventually the writing staff caught up and created scenarios with enough emotional and narrative weight to match Stewart's skills (Measure of a Man, Chain of Command, etc).

Bro I absolutely love the overly campy first couple of seasons. Some of my favorite comfort tv.

I just wish they'd adjust the volume levels on the theme song. Falling asleep to TNG is damn near impossible when the next episode has the intro BLAIRING.

Wait, why are you falling asleep?

Brooklyn 99 is the worst for this. That opening theme doesnt even have the courtesy to ease you into it, it just starts with a few horn blasts.
Not unlike the apocalypse.

Especially watching them stoned!

Haven't you noticed how, in this case, the lightning is coming from his hands?

Possessed Dr Crusher hits different after all the Blazin' Bev memes. She seems stoned out of her gourd.

I love the creepy off kilter vibes of a lot of the early episodes, as much as the show improves a lot in later seasons, it loses that.

Yeah, they really polished off the weird edges once they got going.
And then for season 7, someone dosed the writers room with acid and they took the express train to Vertiform City.
bubbleweed@reddit
Season 7 was when they loosened the belt after dinner and drank a lot of wine.

What I hated about that episode with the ship's intelligence was the absurd depiction of the train and the steam locomotive.

This episode inspired "Among Us", the popular mobile game from a few years ago.

Detractors have tried to compare this early TNG episode with the dreaded TOS Turnabout Intruder.
I just don't see it.
Ralph--Hinkley@reddit (OP)
Absolutely not.

This is why Duncan MacLeod wasn't allowed to serve in Starfleet!

It always gets a chuckle out of me when Picard and Beverly talk about theater and Picard says "I'm not much of an actor" with that sly, 4th-wall-breaking smirk.

I love this episode especially for data

Well... it doesn't hurt to have a scene where he has a few then pisses knock out lightning to everyone else on the bridge. Peak season 1.
