The hurt doesn’t show, but the pain still grows It’s no stranger to you or me I can feel it coming in the air tonight, oh Lord

A while back there were these twin boys doing reaction videos and this one blew up. When it hit the drum solo, they freaked out and charmed the internet. :)

They were adorable! lol

When the song first came out, my friend Aimee told me that the song was about a man who watched a kid drowning but didn’t save him.
Anyone else hear this urban legend?
Yippykyyyay@reddit
Yeah, but it also expanded to he invited the guy to a live concert, put a spotlight on him to sing this, then the guy committed suicide later that night.
Chicagoj1563@reddit
Yes, as a teenager in the 80 I remember hearing that story. It’s funny how a rumor can spread around the world.
But Phil has debunked that so it’s essentially a myth.
Natural_King2704@reddit
The only person to play in both live aid concerts. He played with sting in London, then jumped on the Concorde and played solo in Philadelphia. When finished with his set, he sat in with Eric Clapton, and then with Led Zeppelin. This was all in the same day.

Genuinely surprised by the negative reaction here.
Phil, Genesis, the music was outstanding. I listened to it all. And this album still appears in my playlist several times a year.

“Take me Home” was always and still is one of my favourite songs.
I guess that’s the magic of music. Not everyone needs to like the same thing.
Cereal____Killer@reddit
I was just vibing to “I wish it would rain down” yesterday… such a great song. I never think of listening to Phil but he has so many great hits.
defsentenz@reddit
Backing you up on this....but I'll preface that I do think this song was played out and died for me right after it came out.
Phil as a drummer in early Genesis was epic. Genesis prior to Gabriel's departure was epic. I'll die on that hill. They were their own monolith of the early 70s, and a sad truth is that most prog bands withered in the 80s with all the new synth technology on hand.

Best drum kick-in in modern music.

Huge Phil Collins and Genesis fan. I could listen to this whole album on repeat all day. Droned and Hand in Hand... yeah.
I'll also never be able to listen to "In the Air Tonight" again without thinking, "Oh deer"... https://youtu.be/2ft954vXPa4?si=O8mdc4aYOrrrpvnP

One of the great musicians in popular music. Especially if you know the beginning with genesis in the 70s and the progressive rock era.
The only problem is his voice had such high radio airplay, some people got sick of him. Not myself, but some people probably got worn out.

I’ve been going through a Phil Collins phase lately. He’s been on heavy rotation in the car. Forgot how great his tunes are.
Comfortable-Pea-1312@reddit
For Real.
Enjoying his 80s pop moment right now and some Peter Gabriel (make of that what you will) . Its a vibe and a moment I enjoy revisiting.
dirtybo0ts@reddit
I was a grunge and metal head when I was younger. Still am…but I’m also in my 80s pop/easy listening stage now and I’m loving it.
Float_0n@reddit
Phil Collns ruined 80s music for me. Utterly bland and generic.

I like when he remastered these albums he used this current picture as him older I love that
mediocrerhino@reddit
Thanks for mentioning, I had not noticed that. Just went scrolling through Apple Music and also think that’s cool what he did with the remastered/deluxe releases.
Also saw he recently released a two-part album where each cover is half his face. I appreciate that. Too many years of streaming and not having a proper sit down with album or CD cover in hand staring at liner notes.

Mike Tyson has ruined this song for me

If I never hear a song by Phil Collins again it wouldn’t bother me at all.
realityguy1@reddit
TIL it’s not “I can feel me cumming in your hair tonight”.

There are few songs that I have a violently negative reaction to, this is one of those, can't stand listening to it, even a little bit. If I were to hate any song ever made, I hate this song.
romeodread@reddit
Phil Collins was just generic 80’s adult contemporary music. The only thing that was special about him was his marketing team.
Fuck_Yeah_Humans@reddit
Yeah nah
How soon we forget how bad most of the 80s contemporary pop was...

I always felt like a traitor to my generation but I couldn’t and still can’t stand any of his music
dschwarz@reddit
I also have a violently negative reaction to it. This song came out around the time that my dog died. I’d picked her out from a litter when I was 2. We grew up together. I loved that dog. Hated this song. Probably made the negative association in my mind because the song is really dark.

Can’t read that without hearing that gated reverb drum fill
OIL_99@reddit
It’s the drum solo, Miami Vice and that most think the song is about something else. EPIC tune.

I am ashamed/embarrassed to admit I think I remember this song from watching Days of Our Lives after school more than anything else.

First cd I ever listened too.

I was super bummed out when Roy Orbison died when I was 14. No comparison and not trying to be morbid. Sir Phil Collins is a fucking legend. Have you ever been knighted?
