Why are there always so many non GenX people floating around in here? If they understood us at all, they'd know we want to be left alone...unwatched by prying eyes. 👀
Next-Drummer-9280@reddit
You sound utterly charming.

What generation gave birth to and raised these generations some of y'all have such contempt for?
birkenstock1977@reddit
All non-Xers need to get off our subs lawn and stay on their own shaking fist lol 🤣
DreadPirateWade@reddit
You forgot to threaten to “rock salt their asses”.
TapeFlip187@reddit
lol I haven't heard that one in a While..
RaisedbyNuMetal@reddit
I’m (32M) a long time lurker here. I love hearing your stories and wisdom. GenX is my lost fav generation, boomers orcourse being the gen I hate the most
CountHonorius@reddit
Can hate boomers all you like, they gave us the best music.
TapeFlip187@reddit
Gross.
krneki534@reddit
polite people who mind their own business are always welcomed
endtheme@reddit
At first I joined this sub and Xennial because I thought the topics might be interesting since they're groups I'd share cultural markers with.
After a few days I noticed most topics follow the same theme. Then I looked at other cohort subreddits and realized all the generational cohorts are the same bullshit in different self selected piles. It's literally like that study where every subject was given the same astrological reading and they all thought it uniquely applied to them.
But I do find "Generation Jones" to be the most chill and least pretentious. However I attribute that to their older age and some kind of survivorship bias.
PlayfulMoose9665@reddit
This Generation Jones thing is new to me. I’m Boomer born at the tail end, married to a GenX born at the beginning. I never felt any alliance to Boomers but always got lumped in with them despite being more GenX. So now I’m Jonesing it :)
TapeFlip187@reddit
That's the only way to do it. I'd just lean in.
CountHonorius@reddit
It pays to be old (or 'unc' as the kids say nowadays)
krneki534@reddit
Just click ignore/ban account when someone bothers you and harmony is restored.
RealityDependency@reddit (OP)
Haven't been bothered. I guess not all GenX carry the sarcasm gene based on some responses. ¯_(ツ)_/¯
TapeFlip187@reddit
(I mean, boomers don't.. "Gen Jones" definitely doesn't...)

Whatever, dude. I personally value curiosity.
D05wtt@reddit
Exactly. I want the younger generations to learn from us. There’s a lot of craziness that spawned from them.

Gen x doesn't care
ParadoxDemon_@reddit
I'm curious about the life experiences of people older than me. I think we can learn a lot of things from you, especially because the world is a lot different than it was when your generation was younger. It helps put things into perspective.
I wish I understood more about how the world was like for other generations, especially those who grew without technology. And I find Gen X even more interesting because it's the generation that raised us Gen Z.
asscheese2000@reddit
You wanna know? Turn off your phone and don’t use the internet for a month. You can use a house phone but it needs to be tethered to the kitchen wall. Also, no on demand anything - get an antenna and the only tv and music you get is live broadcast. No GPS, paper maps only no games more advanced than the original NES. All shopping must happen in person, same for banking, postal stuff, everything really. For the few things that you are able to do without being there you have to do it by phone or USPS mail. Use cash or checks for most things instead of credit or debit. Live like that for a month and you’ll approximate 90% of the experience.
ParadoxDemon_@reddit
I wish I could, but nowadays a lot of things we do daily require the use of a device. Most of my assignments at college require a computer, and you can only see your exam results online. I study computer science tho, so probably not the best degree for that. When I visited France two years ago I couldn't even take the bus because they only accepted payment through an app I didn't have (the driver was really nice tho and let us in anyways)
And I'm probably not the average Gen Z. I live in a small city in Spain, I was in a scout group, and my parents (Gen X) love traveling and hiking so I've been doing that since I was a kid. And even then, it would be hard, not to say impossible, for me to manage for a month without a phone. I really wish I could, but it's really not a choice anymore.
Firstcounselor@reddit
That alone must give a glimpse into how different things were. It was not uncommon to literally find yourself lost while driving. It wasn’t uncommon to hear of people taking wrong roads, sometimes literally dying because they got stuck or ran out of gas.
I was personally a good navigator. But looking back I really wonder how I made my way around, city to city, without gps.
ParadoxDemon_@reddit
Oh, I do remember when I was a kid and we didn't have a GPS, and he had to ask strangers in the street. Sometimes it could take half an hour to find the right street. But to be fair the GPS also got us lost a few times lol.
CountHonorius@reddit
Hard to believe that younger generations don't use paper maps.
darkest_irish_lass@reddit
You forgot about the radio being the only way to hear music on the go....until the tape deck became such a huge thing, and then CDs so you had to buy your whole music library all over again.
salchichasconpapas@reddit
ironic because we raised ourselves too but we came out better

Still are too

Yea, I thought it was kinda cute…and brave at first. But now it’s like “scram kid, this ain’t any of your business”.
UnplannedProofreader@reddit
Heh. Mental note to overuse “scram, kid” this week so it becomes part of my vernacular.

The time between the invention of digital cameras and the introduction of mainstream cloud storage haunts us. We took so many digital photos and stored them on our pc, then we changed the pc/laptop a few times and somewhere deep down we still believe we missed a few. That's why even after we digitised all our pjysical photographs, we kept them in shoeboxes in the attic.
LVMom@reddit
I’ve seen so many comments that are like“I’m a millennial (1985) so here are my thoughts on the matter”.
No one here gives a fuck about your opinion. Go to the millennial board.
December_Warlock@reddit
So tough and edgy.
Impressive-Health670@reddit

Or an arcade.
I live in an area that has casinos. That means it also has arcades, because the gamblers have to be able to put their kids somewhere to do the actual gambling. The gambling is strictly 21+ in my state.
Tip for anyone traveling through smaller casino towns than Vegas or Atlantic City; the arcades in the casinos are okay, but the machines are probably better maintained at the other arcade across town.
The one attached to a bowling alley or a water park.
Casinos usually have a larger selection of machines in the arcade than the bowling alley, but there’s no guarantee they will be games that your kids will enjoy.
billzilla@reddit
Docasinos still have arcades? That’s heartwarming.
Chad_Hooper@reddit
I don’t know if that’s what I’d call it, but they do.
One of them used to have a theater that showed movies right before they were released for household purchase. That was a great, budget friendly, entertainment option, but I have heard rumors of its closure.
mybluecouch@reddit
They're here because contrary to our prickly ethos, we are the greatest living generation; created all the things, with the f-u attitude solidly in place, prior to our slackdom greatness.
Who wouldn't want to know more about or engage with that?
punk_willy@reddit
Most of them are cool. Some of them have that brain rot stare though. Like there's nothing but tik tok brain rot going on.

I like the younger gens. I have friends in the 22 to 32 range.
BigFitMama@reddit
My job has always been helping young people and I like them.
I don't like adults who treat them like crap over stuff we all did when we were their age.
Honestly we invented and refined every alternative thing they affect now. We legalized gay marriage. And weed.
And now all we have left to do is love them and help them see the path to creating their own future. Thats our job.
We got 25-30 years left and we are going to save the world for our kids and grandkids.

Have you not seen all the GenXers on YouTube bragging about drinking out of garden hoses like they deserve a goddamn medal for rolling yet another tired cliché?
StanleyQPrick@reddit
A) What the fuck are you talking about?
B) How can it be a cliche if only one group is talking about it?
C) Don't drink from the garden hose now, it can kill you.

True, and too funny! 🤣
