Still have that song in my playlist..

Cool song, but this guy is a reason why so many YT music commentator channels are being copyrighted or taken down. Pure greed! To this day he wont stop with the lawsuits
corneliusvanhouten@reddit
He and Glenn Frey were both awful. Great songwriters but not very good to their bandmates

Yeah well Henley had a 16 prostitute OD in his room. Fuck that guy.
MrsTurtlebones@reddit
Yup. He wrote the song because he was mad about it being reported widely in the news.

you are correct!

Decades and decades ago, I was with my Grandmother at the Thrifty White across the rail tracks from their home. Probably 14 y.o or so. I bought the "Boys of Summer" 45, and she was intrigued. We went back to her house, and Grandma literally took a Don Ho record off of the Lloyds Record Player/AM/FM tabletop stereo she had in the living room, put it in it's sleeve along it in with the Lawrence Welk and Polka albums, and played the record. Quite a few times, in fact. She said she wanted to hear what the young people were listening to. I was in honesty quite shocked; she said she enjoyed it. My Grandma was never more human to me that at that moment. Most of the time she was a sincerely stoic WWII type, and as one of many grandchildren I had never felt particularly close to any of my grandparents.

This is the only place I will ever get to tell this story so imma do it. My mom never let this go. She did some writing and event planning for Buddy magazine in the early 80’s. Dallas,TX. She was really beautiful, think Jerry Hall with better hair. She got a call a day or two after the Buddy Awards from Don’s people asking for dinner. I was 8 or so and my grandparents weren’t available(idk, don’t recall) and she said she couldn’t go unless I came with and that was declined. She never, ever let that shit go.

I loved his song/album from 1989 'The End of the Innocence'. If you read the lyrics, I think he's talking about us. The new young adults. Coming from divorced families and a gutted working class. Different times that he saw us facing. Don Henley is a great song writer and singer. I wish the Eagles weren't so greedy with their reunion tour.
staplesgowhere@reddit
Don Henley wrote Dirty Laundry because he was butthurt at the media coverage he received for his arrest when a 16 year old girl OD’ed at his house.

I love that song. It reminds me of the early chapters of The Stand - which I was reading for the first time when this song was in heavy rotation on the radio. I got it as a gift for Halloween as we were not allowed to trick or treat that year because of the Tylenol poisonings (The Stand, that is.)
ImpossibleMove2@reddit
I too was reading The Stand while listening to Don Henley (The Boys of Summer) and happened to fall asleep while it was playing. Every single time I've heard it since I get an overwhelming sense of dread or melancholy.
ProfessorDull9594@reddit
Can’t say I made the same association, but The Stand was pretty awesome at the time. I read it when I was about 14, and I remember being lost in it, like I was living in a whole new world. Emotions, visualizations, and all of that. Probably felt that way with a few books I read too. I always wonder if I could get a similar feeling if I read them again, 30 some years later, but I figure I’d probably be disappointed. My eyes aren’t too great for reading books anymore, either.
Quiet_Writer_206@reddit
Love the original, but Lisa Marie Presley's cover of this song is also amazing!
ProfessorDull9594@reddit
He’s got a point, too. One reason I’d much rather read news, than watch and listen to these news people talk about it on tv. They always do have that gleam in their eye. No matter how twisted, and dark a story is, they’ll probably smile, or laugh during it, or shortly after. It’s disturbing to me.
dethb0y@reddit
I fucking love that song.
I took the wrong message from it in that it made me think being a journalist was awesome.
jetpack324@reddit
IMO, it’s the best song that Don Henley ever did. Better than any Eagles song.
Obligatory “I hate the fuckin’ Eagles, man” because I love “The Big Lebowski”. I also am not a fan of the Eagles, but I don’t really hate them either
adelec123@reddit
Better than Sunset Grill? Noooooo!!😆

That’s a good one too. Dirty Laundry is my personal favorite though.

The solo on this song by Joe Walsh (the first one, not the outro) is literally my favorite guitar solo of all time. Perfectly mirrors the seething fury of the song.
ChenderasMedallion@reddit
Let’s not forget Mr. Henley’s widely publicized media scrutiny around these years.

Johnny Can't Read is my favorite off there. "Football, baseball, basketball games, drinking beer, kicking ass, and taking down names. Cop down, get around, shooting a line, summer is here and I am feeling fine but Johnny can't read."
