Haven't seen this posted here so Id think I'd link it. Seens like Porsche is developing a GT4 version of the current 911 to use for its GT4 Clubsport one make series and in GT4 class racing.
Seems like that because Porsche went all in with the Cayman EV which was canceled and guven their current financial woes it makes sense for them to use the 911 platform. The 718 Cayman Clubsport is such an old platform.

I really liked driving the cayman gt4 on simulators, what a shame

I drive mostly mx5 cup miata in iracing. Was starting to learn the Cayman gt4 in practice. Guess there's no point now haha. Though I was thinking I should learn the front engine cars anyways since it would therotically more directly translate irl for me, in theory

Have you driven the GR86 Cup car? Wondering how that would compare to the Miata.
OtterCreek_Andrew@reddit
Way easier to drive but Miata will set faster lap times with a good driver

I’m torn. This car will probably sound better (assuming it remains N/A), but the Cayman looked way better.

Yeah the 911 is really big and I feel like the proportions will look a little off with its small wing being in GT4. Imo the Nissan Z is my favorite looking GT4 car

The online response to this is weird(shocker). Porsche is doing this because the Cayman/GT4 is going away, not in addition to.
I'd rather see Porsche remain in the GT4 space using the 911 than just abandoned it altogether. I'm not sure why so many people can't see to grasp this.

I haven't seen anything negative about it.
But yeah I agree. Sucks that we wont see a next geb Cayman for some time but I'd rather see 911 in the GT4 space then nothing like what GM has done with GT4 after killing off the Camaro

Didn't see tgat. Thanks

Porsche needs money after the EV fiasco. I'm sure the Boxster and Cayman will make a huge comeback, with a 6cl and MT.
Only special not so special editions of the 911 won't be enough.

This is a race car.
BWFTW@reddit
I wouldn't put it past porsche to do a 911 gt4 road car. Idk how much sense it would make of the new gt4 clubsport is also using the turbo motor though. But this is porsche, if anyone can further stratify a lineup it's them. Maybe just a carrera S with an aggressive track pack at GTS price?
NetworkStatic@reddit
Agree. Not sure why the downvotes. Porsche is likely to sell both a 911 GT4 Cup car to customer teams as well as a 911 GT4 Clubsport road car. They may be testing the Cup car now but that doesnt preclude them tossing some interior bits back in the car and selling a road car version as well. The development costs are already baked in...
NetworkStatic@reddit
Eh... Porsche sells Clubsport models as road cars un Europe. As a Challenge car this could be more like a Cup car.. an actual race car. Just noting that cars such as Porsche GT3 Clubsport exists as a roadcar outside North America

you're so out of your depth.
