What did you do for your last birthday?

I have a birthday fast approaching and feel somewhat pressured to do something, what did you do for your last birthday?
BendRealistic3639@reddit
Played cooking simulator. I was waiting for a "Special surprise" but never happened. So I just got drunk and f#cked myself. Tbf its the average birthday and sometimes I just go to work.
Next birthday im going to just go to work. Im not expecting anything as I even didnt get anything and I mean not one present for Christmas. I saved the whole year to make sure everyone gets a Christmas presents, food on the table and birthday presents. Stupid enough im saving again for this year.

Went to watch Ash with a friend with whom I'd recently reconnected after not seeing him for about 15 years.
Littlelindsey@reddit
Nothing. I can’t be arsed any more
Enough-Ad3818@reddit
Is the correct answer.
Also, my Birthday is right near Christmas, and trying to organise anything is a massive pain in the arse and always was, so I gave up celebrating Birthdays quite early on.
SimoneLewis@reddit
My ex supposedly planned my birthday, came to my birthday and he had nothing planned and I didn’t plan anything cos he said ‘he had it’
So yeah, I did nothing like all previous birthdays 😅
WholeConstruction307@reddit
I always book a cheap Airbnb in the UK for me and my family somewhere we’ve not been before. Fish and chips and a beer on the beach on my birthday always makes me happy 😊
InkedDoll1@reddit
2 nights in Edinburgh with my husband. Shopping, sightseeing, eating, drinking. It was lovely.
Educational-Angle717@reddit
Always try to do things. Last year I went to see Kaiser Chiefs in Bristol with some friends one day, an escape room with some other friends another day, and then saw family on another day. Pretty good all told.
Mammoth-Turnip-3058@reddit
Worst birthday ever. My brother died in the morning so didn't really want to do anything. So my (twin) sister came over and we had a takeaway.
I barely do anything for birthdays. They're always and always have been a bit lame 😕

About 12 of us went for a curry. We’re all at that age now where we don’t wanna go out much. We did hit the village for a few pints and then stayed 3 hours in the curry house. It was lovely. We do the same thing for everyone’s birthday
ClydeB3@reddit
I went on holiday, and spent a few days in Copenhagen
snittersnee@reddit
Had a beer in town, ate a massive pizza and took acid for the first time in a decade. Honestly I don't know what could have been a better option for a bachelor in his mid 30s.
melonaders@reddit
I went to an escape room with one friend and then went for a meal afterwards.
Unhappy_Judgment_816@reddit
Worked, sadly.
Ok_Yellow4174@reddit
I always take a day off.

I played Zelda: Breath of the Wild. The greatest game ever invented. I love fantasy.

Had coffee with my parents then drove to an airport hotel in Glasgow with my husband. Bed at 9pm as we needed to be at the airport at 4!

I turned 40 a couple of weeks ago. Didn’t want any fuss. Fixed my garage roof then went to donate blood.
srnic1987@reddit
Little tea and cake party with my kids and a nice mid-evening spa with my husband. It was lovely.
cornishjb@reddit
Restaurant, bars, dance, taxi, sick
Brilliant_Charity_29@reddit
Me too…. Except for the sick for a change. Maybe I’m getting older and wiser 🤔
IndividualCurious322@reddit
Bought myself some books and stayed home reading.
Ecstatic-Bug-6119@reddit
I booked myself a lovely treatment at the Lush spa in Oxford st. I was having a coffee nearby just before when I had a phone call, cancelling the appointment as the therapist was ill. I was gutted and mentioned it was my birthday. They asked me to come in anyway and sorted out a mini treatment on the shop floor and rearranged the treatment for a few days later. They did their best to make the day special, but I was so disappointed that I just went home and had a chilled day there.
This year, I’ll be with my mum for my birthday, but unsure what we’ll do together at the moment.
Salt-Trade-5210@reddit
I went to work. Came home, opened a couple of cards and gifts from family, had a glass of wine and my favourite meal in front of the TV.
stellardecay@reddit
Last year, I'd got two Ragdoll kittens the day before so I spent the day watching those two test every single bit of cat-proofing we'd done to the house 🤣

Constant-Map7687@reddit
Went to a local hotel and had afternoon tea.
Davin1985@reddit
Went Dublin. Cost more for the weekend there than an all inclusive to Fuerteventura did the month prior. But that’s because I’m a drunken mess.
BambiTheInsane@reddit
I was at centre parcs in longleat with my Mrs.
LittleMissAbigail@reddit
Auditioned for a musical (didn’t get it, unsurprisingly) and then went out with my partner for pancakes, a theatre show and dinner at a restaurant we both like that’s slightly fancier than where we usually go. Couldn’t have asked for anything better.
h00dman@reddit
My birthday is in December and my brother in law's birthday is in January.
My niece's birthday is also in December (a few days before me) so I was happy to postpone mine and share my brother in law's day (he suggested it).
It was basically him, my siblings, my mum, my nieces, and my other brother in law, and a pub lunch followed by us all going back to my mum's for a homemade birthday cake.
It's honestly one of the best birthdays I've had in years.
leapyeardi@reddit
Went to London for the weekend. Saw a show, visited a few museums, ate some great food and just wandered around taking in the sights.

I went for a run, then drove down to the coast with a friend (we’re London based). We swam in the sea and ate fish and chips. Then came back to London for dinner out with someone else. Was honestly the perfect day. Also had a joint party the week later as it was a big birthday
summers_tilly@reddit
Had a me day. Got a facial, got my nails done, had a solo lunch a cafe and sat in a bookshop. The dinner and cake with family. I’ve got 2 young kids and not a moment to myself so I just wanted a pause the day.
LikeEveryoneSheKnows@reddit
Woke up with an awful migraine, threw up about 40 times (coincidentally, one for every year of my life), managed to put the kids on the school bus, went back to bed until lunchtime. Not the greatest start to the new decade 😅
Scared-One9295@reddit
I turned 39 in March, I was going to take my son to a Lego shop to "let him choose my present" (because he's obsessed with planes, especially Concordes, and I want the Concorde but can't make myself buy it just because), but then I checked my bank account so we went for a walk instead.
It's my partner's 40th soon and she thinks we're going camping in the Lake District, I don't know how to tell her we're going for a walk again!
beckforddd@reddit
Had a lazy morning in bed with my cats, went for afternoon tea, then saw a concert
Aggravating_Cloud657@reddit
I moved house the day before, so unpacking and takeaway.

Flimsy-Sheepherder98@reddit
Dinner out with my mum and dad and husband the day before. Went for a long walk, Then out for a curry with the kids the day of. I don’t like people much so perfect t for me
thorn312@reddit
Nothing, really.
I make cakes for my gluten free partner for his every year even though he insists that he doesn't celebrate his birthday.
Oh my 30th, he went out if his way to plan a bowling party and then cocktails, contacted a bunch of my friends and things (he is incredibly socially anxious so that alone was so thoughtful) and planned everything out from miles away as we lived apart. Unfortunately, probably half of them cancelled at the very last moment/day and one I never got a reply from after for months. We were both a bit disappointed and he was downright angry with the few that did, even though I knew they were flaky at best.
The few that showed up and we had a great time, it was a lovely birthday and I will remember it fondly. I'm very much a forgive and forget person for the most part, sadly it definitely soured things for my partner, but that's life! I don't have too many friends anyway and I'm not very social by nature.
Do whatever makes you happy! If you're more independent, go take trips and see sights on your own, if you're more social and crave company, see about planning something with friends and family.
jelliethief@reddit
Moved house, 29 weeks pregnant. Was the hottest day, I was ridiculously emotional! The girl who was buying my house turned up to move in at 10am when we still hadn't completed, she had to give her hire van back by 11, so she moved all her shit into the garden. My dog pissed on loads of her boxes. We didn't get the keys to our new house until 4pm. It was an awful day! This birthday, I'll be spending it in Spain with my 9 month old baby and partner! Roll on tomorrow when we fly!
atomic_mermaid@reddit
Who's applying the pressure, you or someone else? Either way tell them to get stuffed if you don't wanna do anything. Birthdays should be about what you want!
Rowanx3@reddit
I don’t like cake, so i went to london to meet my twin sister, had a birthday willies pie at a pub then went to the top secret comedy club.
Organic-Path-8961@reddit
Went to a ceramic cafe with my family to paint things and eat cake.
Intrepid_Bearz@reddit
I turned 50 so had a 1970: themed kids birthday party, lots of food on cocktail sticks, balloons, jelly, “bunnies on the lawn” ;which went a bit wrong so we retiled it as mice visiting the sewage factory… oh and an enormous cake that cost more than everything else put together 😅
Intrepid_Bearz@reddit
😅
TSC-99@reddit
Well my husband will be at the play offs for mine so I probably won’t do much.
Who_Knows_M3@reddit
Worked and had a takeaway

For my last birthday I went to Gloucester. I had a wander around, enjoyed the sunshine, got a change of scenery and learnt a bit about the city. I came home and ate cake. I'm one of those weirdos who really enjoy a birthday!
Just do whatever you like; it's your birthday! Some people don't want to celebrate it at all. I use it as an excuse to do something I like. If you don't want to do anything you don't have to.
Mediocre_Sprinkles@reddit
This is it. I'd usually pick a new city I wanted to visit and go for a day or two. Just walk around take in the sights, sometimes do the cheesy walking tours. Spend the day doing what I want.
Kell_Jon@reddit
Nice to hear! I grew up around Gloucester, Cheltenham and the forest.
Wonderful area.
Wonderful-Part3495@reddit
I took my gf out, then we had a fire evening
Ok-Refrigerator-3919@reddit
I went to a Japanese restaurant for dinner with a few friends, stopped at a local gelato place afterwards and finished the evening with some drinks at a bar.

My last birthday was also fathers day, so my wife and kids took me out for Sunday lunch at a local pub.
We don't go out often, so it made a nice change.
Smooth_Brilliant4083@reddit
I was in prison. So nothing.
Mikon_Youji@reddit
Had Chinese takeout with my husband and watched a movie. I haven't been interested in doing anything big for my birthday in years.

It wasn't my most recent birthday, but the last time I did anything on my birthday it was a football stadium tour.
InviteAromatic6124@reddit
Went to Blackpool and went to Blackpool Zoo, Sandcastle water park and the Blackpool Tower Dungeon. Then my car broke down on the way back (the day of my actual birthday) and I had to wait hours to get towed back home.
HuiOnFire@reddit
went to the trafford centre for a mooch shopping and dinner, then to the pub

MarilynManson2003@reddit
I just went to the cinema like any other day.
EyeSpy1359@reddit
At home, on my own. My birthday is on an annual bank holiday and no-one bothers!
Lollygagger105@reddit
Similar. Mine is a few days after NYE and often the “back to work” day. I hate hate hate it. Although this year was a snow day so I went to the local garden centre for my lunch. Main menu suspended because the chefs couldn’t get there, but at least it felt different 🤣
JonJo42@reddit
Visited the Mundo Pixar Experience in Wembley, London with my wife and son and then for childhood 1980s nostalgia had a hamburger in a Wimpy dinner.
Djinjja-Ninja@reddit
Had a party at a friend's house with our friends group (5 couples), ate like kings and drank like conquerors. The host cooked an amazing meal, plus he's somewhat of a home brew master and cocktail genius.
We played the taskmaster boardgame (with some modifications as it's not the first time we've played it, it's become a bit of a tradition for my birthday) and I was the taskmaster (as always) and my partner was my Alex Horne (she even wore the suit and tie), I had a cloak instead of the throne.
I was a massively capricious bastard and it was absolutely hilarious.
This year (two weeks time) we're all going to a 5 star hotel in Sopot in Poland for a long weekend for my 50th to eat and drink like kings.
As a friends group (we're all middle aged) make sure that we always do something for someone's birthday, either a swanky meal, or a trip away, or a birthday blowout hosted at one of our houses.
Ryndomaru@reddit
Pressured myself to do something, ended up doing nothing and hated it. Never enjoy my birthday for some reason.
Tall_Stick5608@reddit
Had the nurses at the hospital sing me happy birthday and they got me a Black Forest cake. Was recovering from quite a few surgeries and although it wasn’t an ideal birthday I really enjoyed and appreciated what they did for me.
The previous year went to see my girlfriend in Riga where she is from, bought myself a watch there, had a nice dinner with her and got an upgrade at the 5 star hotel i had booked. Was an amazing day / night
CharmingSwing1366@reddit
went to a national trust property with my family and bestf & then my friends came over for a movie night - i’m 22 but going out out is v much not my thing 😭😂
Odd-Paramedic-3826@reddit
i went to eat at a resteraunt with my family then went for drinks with friends on the weekend. that was one of the last times we all went out together unfortuantely, one of them moved abroad, one moved in with his partner, and another just drifted away without many words. I still see tom all the time though, big up tom
Thinking10Thinking@reddit
I spent the actual day solo. Stayed in bed a little longer that morning, enjoyed a slow coffee morning, visited a nearby town, and enjoyed birthday cupcakes when I got back home. I had food with family on other days too.

Wife booked a hotel for a few nights.

Took a day off work. Visited a city that I hadn't been to in a while. Went to a few coffee shops/cafes and book shops. Got an ice cream and a beer as it was a hot summer day. Had a nice lunch. Went home. Started reading a book I bought from one of the shops.
BatteryAt14percent@reddit
On the actual day, had a tea party and built lego. For the weekend, went to a hobbit hole with my husband and attempted to go fishing but the weather was shocking. Had to stay in the hot tub instead. Oh no. The horror.
Aesthetictoblerone@reddit
Had a party with all my friends at uni. Two people went shot for shot. Those two people were sick everywhere. Fun night!
