Well... It predates .300 BLK. Not actually sure how I feel about this since you kinda want 5.56 to go nyoom
ebolamonkey3@reddit
So the barrel is ported and it makes 5.56 subsonic?
CannonFodder58@reddit
Probably, which defeats the purpose. 5.56 is dependent on velocity to do its damage, but it might do ok for close range. It definitely has extra points for coolness, though.

I've read about the protracted attempts to create a suppressed, subsonic 5.45×39 AK-74. It would be used with special subsonic loads, just like the suppressed 7.62×39 AK with the BS reduced subsonic ammunition.
The article said that the project was unsuccessful. That the high-velocity small-caliber 5.45 has much greater bore friction; it's much harder to push the light, small bullet with a hard jacket through the barrel with tighter tolerances, to get rifling engagement.
Normal loads overcome it easily and accelerate the projectile to 850 m/s. But with the reduced loads, they struggled to even clear the barrel. Or rather, if the barrel was already used (not shot out, just had slightly widened tolerances due to normal-to-heavy use), the velocity shot way beyond subsonic, so useless. But if the barrel was new, it barely got out, sometimes even getting stuck in the barrel as a squib. The lightness of the 5.45 and high friction brought it to the very (bottom) edge of performance.
Obviously this doesn't fly, the gun/cartridge system becomes completely unpredictable and ballistics are all over the place, plus it's a crapshoot if the suppressor even works.
I don't know if it would help if they made it a malleable lead bullet like the .22LR, but anyway, the project was abandoned.

5.56 NATO, yes.
But you can make .223/5.56 a capable round that isn't dependent on velocity if you use a heavier slug. The NATO load uses a super lightweight slug specifically for extra velocity and range.
Mountsorrel@reddit
It has a short barrel and no OEM mount or “designed for, but not with” a mount for optics; it is clearly not designed for engagements over hundreds of meters or against conventional battlefield targets who may wear body armour. 5.56 being subsonic in the context for which it is intended to be used is irrelevant. It does not “defeat the purpose” at all.
Davenator_98@reddit
Now imagine it in .300blk, that would go hard.
Does it really drop down to sub-sonic though? It could just be a regular suppressor to minimize muzzle flash, like the PBS-4 for the AKS-74U.
Maniacal_Coyote@reddit
Or 8mm Kurz.
Taolan13@reddit
Not quite subsonic, but quiet enough so the enemy isn't sure what they're being shot at or from where.
Suitable-Carrot3705@reddit
Wonder how much velocity is lost with the ported barrel?
Rincevent5@reddit
Who cares?
CerealATA@reddit
Do want.
theh0veringeye@reddit
I would do despicable things to get one
pronult3@reddit
You handle the shaft, I got the balls. Let’s get this over with.
JMHSrowing@reddit
I bet this thing would have been great in .300 Blackout.
CatShrink@reddit
This should have a NSFW tag due the sheer eroticism the weapon purveys.
