I saw the discounts for restaurants and I was like that membership fee is pretty cheap.
Defiant_Cause1436@reddit
Congratulations. You wil get nothing at all from it except a headache
TheJokersChild@reddit
And maybe a trunk organizer.
SGFCardenales@reddit
I can only echo everything else many have said. Though I found the magazine/newspaper(??) to be useful and had interesting articles. Frankly you’re better off joining AAA and subscribing to Consumer Reports.
Mtothethree@reddit
Welcome to the club!
Impossible-Driver69@reddit
AARP is where it's at -- the Walmart+ discount alone make it worth it.
blacknoi@reddit
Walmart+ exactly.
Significant-Water227@reddit
I saved a fortune on car rental and hotel recently just by going directly through AARP travel site….Will def use again….
r7ndom@reddit
My wife signed us up in our mid-40s. Pays for itself every year in the savings I receive on mailbox fees alone. I still find it pretty funny, but if it works, it works. Now, if only I could get them to stop providing my information to their life insurance partners ..

As everyone says, prepare for junk mail and email. Had spam email pretty well under control before signing up for AARP, now constant flood of BS. Wish had used a throw away email address.
And yeah, have yet to get/use any discounts from it.
JediMasterKev@reddit
Zero benefits. Tons of junk mail and spam. And they basically say, you can't opt-out after you leave.
DPax_23@reddit
Enjoy that trunk organizer.
lundah@reddit
I got an insulated cooler bag, use it to take my lunch to work.
najing_ftw@reddit
I use to hold my other insulated cooler bags.
dbrmn73@reddit
And the shit ton of phone calls, junk mail amd SPAM.
DPax_23@reddit
I have a spam diversion setting on my phone. I've never got any of that. I occasionally get hard mail insurance offers.
SmashEmWithAPhone@reddit
Was going to say that.the.trunk organizer is garbage. Mother in Law got one and it tore within days.
GotchUrarse@reddit
My younger cousin just turned 49. I'm signing her up just so she can feel the pain of the the never ending crap. Yes, we play jokes on each other all the time. Can't believe I haven't thought of this.
najing_ftw@reddit
Hopefully you love junk mail
taco-bake@reddit
Came to say this. Junk mail increase by 1000% but hey 10% at some businesses
Uranus_Hz@reddit
Actual junk mail is so much better than spam.
Yada-Yada-Yadda@reddit
Serious question. Is it worth it? I get the mailers, just not sure. So many people make fun of it, but I honestly want to know from people who have it. I do t want to miss out if it’s worth it.
dbrmn73@reddit
If you enjoy getting a shit ton of phone calls, junk mail amd SPAM it is. They sell your info to EVERY Tom, Dick, and Harry.
Yada-Yada-Yadda@reddit
Well I’m not interested in speaking with tom, dick and harry. Good to know. I will pass! Thanks for the info.
SmashEmWithAPhone@reddit
AARP sells subscriber information to every political group trying to get the senior citizen vote. Expect a ton of physical junk mail and gobs of spam solicitation emails thr moment you sign up.
Yada-Yada-Yadda@reddit
Oh wow. Good to know I appreciate you sharing that. What a pain. I will pass on this.
ditchdiggergirl@reddit
You get all that shit anyway, whether paid member or not. I’ve been inundated since I turned 50, and it got so bad that at one point I wondered if I could take out a restraining order.
Character-Twist-1409@reddit
I've already paid mine off with the rewards coupons but it does take a little time...I figure better than just doom scrolling
Character-Twist-1409@reddit
I know i joined early! Great discounts and infk
ih8javert@reddit
I signed up as soon as I was old enough and I wish I didn’t. Their discounts are about the same as AAA and they send a lot of junk mail.
snuggas@reddit
Only have to be 18 to sign up
agravain@reddit
actually there's at least 4 "associations" you can check if their politics and discounts match what you use/like
AARP, AMAC, 60 Plus Association, and ASBA
MicheleRSimon@reddit
They're the only organization I know of fighting for federal programs like Medicare and social security. That alone is a good enough reason for my membership. I don't need any discounts or much else
Anathama@reddit
This! I'm not a big fan of lobbyists, but this is one I can support.
FlipMyWigBaby@reddit
AARP’s business model includes selling your info to as many 3rd advertisers as possible (more than most aggregators), and since they think you are old, that includes tons of bulk mail (the OG spam), in addition to junk email and of course the numerous trackers affiliated with every keystroke. Enjoy your targeted ads, and old fashioned magazine!
Helpful-nothelpful@reddit
What's the saying fool me once shame on you. Fool me twice, well you can't fool me twice.
Early-Tourist-8840@reddit
They appreciate your political donation
LostDepartment4512@reddit
Now you are officially old.
StillC5sdad@reddit
It's not worth it
Disastrous-Dingo5302@reddit
Sucks huh hang in there friend
GBeastETH@reddit
Boo!!
