Nature washing…

Yep, a developer cuts down 40 trees, clears a load of scrub for concrete and then erects a 10 cubic cm bunch of decorative sticks in a completely hostile location for most bugs.
Sure we’ve killed 400,000 invertebrates but there’s a spider living in that box.

I made one of those and not a single bee checked in 😭

We got carpenter bees. They started with our windows, so we got them this to enjoy.

It usually takes a while to weather a bit before you get bees using them. we had one in the garden for ages and it was ignored, then they started using it, its now falling apart (literally held together now with cable ties...), but it will be full of new bees anyway in short order.

Nice! Mine has rotted to bits now but I'll make a sturdier one for this year

I think the bee hotels are more likely to be used in built-up areas where there are less natural places for the fees to hibernate, but it’s nice to see people trying to help and they don’t look too bad do they?

Bee hotel. It means the builders have settled in for the long haul if they've put it up themselves. Unless it has been set up by a third party guerilla wildlifer, it means the build is intended to be there for a full year to allow bees to breed and hibernate overwinter.

Here things are a joke if the area around has just been concreted over. It’s a fig leaf to make people feel like they are doing something good for nature. How is the surrounding area landscaped out of interest?
