I've found the solution to getting unloaded quicker.

Start messing with things you're not supposed to. If that doesn't work, start walking where you're not supposed to. Amazon thought I was a ghost until I started rifling through filing cabinets. All of a sudden they had time for the only truck on the yard.
NJNeal17@reddit
I worked in the warehouse up until I got my CDL. When I loaded flatbed you CAN'T forget bc it's live and usually a line waiting.
But vans? ABSOLUTELY forget you're there! Got them it's just numbers for the doors the are loading/unloading from. Now it's mainly unloading. Loading is usually a live thing although I've seen those guys take their time.
TL;DR Flatbed rare but vans absolutely get forgotten.

I delivere to the same place twice a day and go home after the second delivery. I usually get there around 3 pm for the second delivery. They take break at 3 pm. I get home around 4:30 and am back at it at 3 am. If I get in around 2:30, I'm home by 3. I asked them to please just unload me at 3 even though they take a break. They refused. I spent an entire week parking at a truck stop around the corner and waiting to show up at 4:25. They get off at 4:30 and have everything wrapped up and are sitting around the door by 4:20. I get home at 5. The next Monday I show up at 3. Before I hand them the bills I asked if they would unload me know or if I should get lunch till 4:25 around the corner again. He said we take break at 3 so I took break till 4:25. Now I text them when I'm at the last stop light and they let me know the dock and I get home at 3:15.

That's sounds like a crazy schedule. When do you sleep etc
Normal-Pie7610@reddit
12 on, 12 off. 600 miles a day. Omaha to Des Moines so flat land with no traffic. Most Saturdays and every Sunday and holiday off. Plus if the shipper doesn't need me, I get half pay for the day. It's a bit of an intense schedule but driving is like a calming therapy for me. It also helps that my truck is ungoverned and 1 busted light away from a rolling piece off shit. I don't deal with dispatch. My account is my problem and my manager on calls me if the shipper calls him. He gave me the keys, showed me the route and said get it done.
SaltAndBitter@reddit
Currently being based out of Des Moines, it is with the utmost courtesy and professionalism that I say: Bull. Shit.
LOL
Normal-Pie7610@reddit
I just meant compared to most other cities. I try so hard to get out of Des Moines before 630 because I know the roadwork before the west mixer is just brutal. And the exit I take to everybody in the right lane slows down to 50 before the exit while I'm screaming at them to fucking go.
Chillimaniac@reddit
Dang that sounds like a dream. Wish I could find that in my area.
ChampionshipThin8916@reddit
It’s unfortunate a lot of people are unwilling to help out someone they deal with EVERYDAY, until you treat them with the same courtesy.
HorizonW1@reddit
Awesome story haha
Snappypants9@reddit
Brilliant!!!
Tricky_Big_8774@reddit
I guess this wouldn't apply to Amazon, but showing up 30 min before they get off works wonders too.
LordBuggington@reddit
No on purpose but once I just barely made it to a place due to weather then the train crossing around the corner was malfunctioning. I called and asked if they could still unload me and they said they would if I made it by 5. Got there at 455 and they had all gone home. It was friday and I had to wait there until Monday to get unloaded. 😅
Tricky_Big_8774@reddit
I had something similar happen recently. Broker didn't let them know I was running late, just said "they're open til 10." The only guy who was certified to run the paper rolls forklift went home early. Fortunately they were open on Saturday.
vanishing_point@reddit
I just tell them that I'm fine with a 3 hr unload. I'm old, and it just gives me more time to tell them my "back in the day" stories. All of a sudden I become a priority.

Someone needs to try this when they get pulled over and report back with results.
ImissURmomma@reddit
That might actually work
emdefmek@reddit
The old “is it cool if I take my 10 here?” works for me sometimes.
Environmental-Pear40@reddit
You're lucky they didn't just trespass you.
MarmotWorldOrder@reddit (OP)
This facility has a cage. I was just going through their stuff until someone finally walked over. They also need the freight I have. I've pulled the lost wanderer stunt and it's worked every time. Walk around aimlessly and someone will inevitably approach you to shoo you away.
jgremlin_@reddit
I've had drivers try this trick. In their case, it was a great way to get themselves banned from the property. We do a shit ton of dedicated work for a small handful of customers. Get yourself banned from a property and I have to pull you off that account. Get yourself banned somewhere else and its time for you to start providing your special caliber of service to my competitors.
MarmotWorldOrder@reddit (OP)
If my company banned me from shitty places that don't feel the need to do their job, I'd be ecstatic.
jgremlin_@reddit
Your company isn't the one doing the banning. The customer is the one doing the banning.
MarmotWorldOrder@reddit (OP)
I will become a convert if I am banned.
jgremlin_@reddit
When. It's not if, it's when. You keep doing what you're doing and it's only a matter of time.
Dezzolve@reddit
I do the same, especially in places I’ve never been before if no one is willing to help me find where I need to go.
It’s surprising how far into places you can get before someone stops you.
No_Ocelot4019@reddit
I was up near Joliet at a cold facility (awesome people everytime i go) but the parking lot bathrooms had actual shit on the foor and I dont know about you guys but I respect myself more than that so I did exactly that started pulling on doors found my way into some of their offices and thought to myself huh I bet there's a clean bathroom in here found it used it got caught on my way out trying to remember which way I came then got an escort by a very sweet older lady who thought it was hilarious I made it that far into the building without getting stopped lol like this was not the receiving offices the most relaxed outfit I saw was buissness casual while I was in hey dudes basket ball shorts and a t-shirt
MarmotWorldOrder@reddit (OP)
Some guy saw my high vis with my company name on it and kept asking me when I started. I had just used the employee restroom because it was cleaner and closer to the dock. Nobody said anything until I'd already walked in and done my business.
iforgotmorethanuknow@reddit
Drive a flatbed. I get uploaded/loaded within 15m 90% of the time. 2 years driving and I can count on 1 hand the # of times i've waited over 3 hours to get loaded/uploaded.
MarmotWorldOrder@reddit (OP)
I'm endlessly jealous when I see y'all rolling by at paper plants while I'm sitting a in a long line.
OnAJourneyMan@reddit
How’s that work? Every Amazon facility I’ve been to you are in a cage when you go into the warehouse.
MarmotWorldOrder@reddit (OP)
They had a filing cabinet and a storage bin I started going through. The wandering around is used at other places.
Chillimaniac@reddit
I hate that shit. I once mistook my address and walked into one of their cages. I got so mad. Good thing the mistake was on me and I got to leave. But I’ve sworn if I ever get sent to pick up there they can either have their truck back or give me a different load.
ImissURmomma@reddit
I always tell them to take their time because my dispatcher needs to learn patience and I’m hourly. Strangely I usually get unloaded quickly wherever I go. But maybe it’s because I don’t want to get volunteered for dumb shit or get my hours cut short
ShoddySpace5680@reddit
I just ask if I can sit in waiting room or break room they usually don’t want me in their building.
MarmotWorldOrder@reddit (OP)
Tractor Supply is good for this. They don't want me in the break room or in the storage room.
jqmallah@reddit
That is exactly how detention starts eating the whole day. The worst yards are the ones where nobody owns the door, the paperwork, or the call to receiving. If the dock lead is invisible, every driver ends up doing detective work.
MarmotWorldOrder@reddit (OP)
Funny enough, I ended up leaving from this facility because after they unloaded me, they pulled a disappearing act with my bills. The number they called from doesn't accept incoming calls. Oh well.
410FA@reddit
i’ll do all the unnecessary stuff, wandering around, taking pictures of inside their trashcan, looking at personal vehicles, they’ll get your creepy ass out of there in no time.. also being obscenely loud helps
Fluffy-Dig-2094@reddit
They hate it when you tell them tou get paid to wait so take your time. They get you out really fast.
Bagzthehoney@reddit
Doesn’t hurt to flash a 10 or 20 to the person unloading or loading your truck
robexib@reddit
Naw, fuck that. Their employer is already paying them to unload the truck, the driver shouldn't have to sweeten the deal.
xEyelessOnex@reddit
Mine was to tell them I was going to sleep.
deezkeys098@reddit
Every time I actually need a nap desperately I would tell them “hey I really need a nap so you can take your time unloading” they always had me unloaded in less than 2 hours🤣
xEyelessOnex@reddit
Then when you tell them you had another appointment, they took their sweet time.
CaptainCakeDSL4@reddit
Used to pick up from Allied Tube in Harvey Illinois on a pretty regular basis. They're notorious for slow loading, so I'd pile my tarps on the floor next to the rear of my trailer, open a bag of chips or pretzels, and start offering handfuls to the workers while asking them about their day. They never took me up on the snacks, but I was always next to be loaded after I started that up.
Fartony@reddit
I see others are starting to implement my methods. Good work.
CBTwitch@reddit
I just start microwaving my lunch. That usually does it.
TruckerAlurios@reddit
Tried this last week. I built a model kit and when I got bored of that I started walking laps of the yard, I got halfway and they yelled at me and I suddenly was done.
Exciting-Car-3516@reddit
I tell you what not to do. Do not pay any compliments to the ladies that work at any facility otherwise they’ll keep you there, invite you home to shower and get fed. You’re warned. You’ll do an involuntary reset every day you deliver.
SexMachine666@reddit
True story!
Jmglasell@reddit
I'll gladly sit there all day and wait for a customer. Paid by the hour is great!
WeirdTruckGuy@reddit
Had a P and G load I was delivering to a Target DC. Had been there for 4 hours already and they said it’d be another 4 hours before it was done since it was a machine doing the work. I told them that if I wasn’t leaving in the next 30 minutes, I’d be charging them $300 an hour starting 2 hours prior. Which meant they were $600 into this and counting. 10 minutes later, they called and said my bills and trailer were the empty spot and to have a nice day. Bills were signed clean and I was out of there. Unbeknownst to them, I was a small company driver 🤣😆🤣
VikingLander7@reddit
I sometimes deliver to chemical plants and when they ask me if I know where I need to go for the delivery (anyone who doesn’t know some plants are huge) I say no but I’ll just start driving around and someone will find me and tell me where I’m supposed to be. They usually find an escort quickly enough after that.
John9250@reddit
Oh I thought you just reversed really fast and slammed on the brakes. That works too
Emergency_Ad1152@reddit
Dude, thank you! I just walked into the women's restroom and they got me unloaded so fast! They even gave me a police escort.
