Oh boy, here it comes! ICT to DCA toilet overflow at the gate.

We all de-planed. Captain came out to the gate and told us he was going to time out in a couple of hours. So, we'll see.

Im a lead aircraft maintenance technician for PSA Airlines this was aircraft N530EA and I was the lead in charge of that aircraft last night.
The plane ferried to my hangar here in CVG and we spent 8 hours removing carpet, floor boards and other panels in the plane to clean and inspect the cause.
That aircraft won’t fly or leave cvg for many days until it’s cleaned, inspected and deemed airworthy! Funny how this was posted and it was my aircraft was in charge of!!
LaddieNowAddie@reddit (OP)
Interesting follow up!!! Thank you!

Reason 1753 of why you should never walk around an airplane without shoes on.
ChairDippedInGold@reddit
Socks would just soak it up, go barefoot
Distantstallion@reddit
If you get enough people to take their shoes off the overflow would probably be brought down.

And get corn between my toes?! No way. Flip flops ftw. Then we can aisle surf during the delay.

People who take their shoes off on the plane deserve to receive the airplane equivalent of a keelhauling especially if they put your feet up on the arm rest in front of them.
If that isn’t an option, then asked to put their feet down and shoes back on.
MyTruckIsAPirate@reddit
Delta gives out slippers on long hauls. I'm not keeping my shoes on...
finnknit@reddit
I have a pair of slippers that I only use on long haul flights. I bring them with my every time I travel.
SundayRed@reddit
Sorry, but I'm taking my shoes off for an overnight flight.
DistributionHot2150@reddit
As a pilot, I take my shoes off. It’s a long day for me, I’m not having shoes on for 12 odd hours
the_silent_redditor@reddit
What about 12 regular hours?
sinkrate@reddit
Or 12 even hours?
Conor_J_Sweeney@reddit
Just put them back on when you go to the bathroom. No one expects you to sleep on the lie-flats with your sneakers on.
gevhtonJudyTBHh@reddit
Taking shoes off is fine, there are multiple medical issues that make it necessary and generally I wouldn’t care anyway. But that doesn’t excuse putting your feet in another people’s space, shoes on or off.
railker@reddit
Y'know, I hear tell they used to keelhaul traitors back in the day. I don't have a keel to haul you on, so ...
austnob13@reddit
Another fun one is the carpet is super flammable! Always try to wear closed-toed shoes on a plane. Many passengers who didnt make it out of the plane during a cabin fire had open-toed shoes and had serious burns on their feet.
nothingbutfinedining@reddit
Uhh, all the materials inside an aircraft are specifically designed to be less flammable/more fire resistant than normal.
SkyscraperNC@reddit
Oh that’s on the plane? I honestly couldn’t tell what I was looking at. Disgusting

Oh yeah just recently had to reinstall a waste drain line in the aft galley and i had to kiss the ground to reach that damn line behind the galley walls and we needed a second pair of hands for the clamp. Me amd my colleague were stacked above each other and i was having the second opening of the line a centimeter away from my nose saying hello to that sewage xD. Just gotta make the best of it and throw out some words then its all good xD
3greenandnored@reddit
That's a Cancled flight! The Blue juice is caustic and will dissolve the resin/epoxy in the floor, as well as eat through grease and protective gells in the belly of the aircraft.

3greenandnored@reddit
Xenomporph blood is actually less toxic
railker@reddit
And can contaminate electrical components, not to mention being a potential biohazard.
Thatgliderpilot@reddit
It’s only a biohazard on the plane, when it’s from the plane but on the Apron we get to clean up the spills in our work boots and smell it for the rest of the shift. (I don’t work for an airport not an airline so I hate that we have to clean it up sometimes)
railker@reddit
It's been years but I think last time we had a big lav spill on the apron we just called ARFF and they made it go away from the comfort of their joystick controls.
LoganNolag@reddit
Always found it weird that they use carpet on planes. So much harder to clean than hard surfaces.
Dangerous-Honey7422@reddit
You learn to appreciate carpet. It has give, it’s comfortable underfoot. Reduces noise. It absorbs the occasional spill, dust particle, random crud etc. It’s best not to think about what it has seen and what is still inside of it. After some time, replace it. The cycle repeats.

I read this as ICN to DCA at first and was very curious about the logistics of how this would possibly work.
mgrtnp@reddit
ICN to DCA, if such route exists, would take more than 12 hrs amirite?
jewgineer@reddit
IAD-ICN is about 15 hours.
DouchecraftCarrier@reddit
I used to work on the ramp at IAD when they had an A380 on that route. It would arrive mid-morning and I always got a kick out of realizing that when I'd clocked in at 6:30 that morning it had already been in the air for something like 10 hours and was somewhere over the Arctic.
Dangerous-Rice44@reddit
Yes. The problem is that DCA has very short runways (it also lacks immigration facilities). Even a 739 going transcontinental to SEA faces trouble taking off while heavy enough with enough fuel (which is why Alaska’s daily SEA-DCA flight uses a 738). I guess in theory an ICN-DCA flight could work, but any airplane that could make that journey would find it physically impossible to do the reverse without a fuel stop somewhere.
jewgineer@reddit
A Vietnam Airlines 787 has landed at DCA before but it was with no passengers and minimal fuel I think. It was a showcase flight of sorts. The 787 could technically fly DC to ICN, but no way it could take off or land safely filled with passengers and fuel.
GravyGregg@reddit
Had to do an inspection after this happened to one. Thankfully it was the water supply line leaking in the aft lav so it was "clean" water but still. Had to go down to the cargo and inspect for water ingress all over, and a road crew from the airline still had to come out to finish the clean up. I spent all day on that problem.
DOOM_INTENSIFIES@reddit
What aircraft is that? Seems cramped even for an ATR.

P1xelHunter78@reddit
God dammit. I know exactly where it’s being repoed. That’s all I’ll say.
JustPlaneNew@reddit
😬
railker@reddit
Arguably depends on what it actually is. If the toilet is freshly drained and the ground crew just over-serviced the juice, it's gonna be 99% water and the blue disinfectant additive. I still wouldn't touch it but there's no turds floating down the aisle in that scenario.
But it is still corrosive and can fuck up structure, electronic components, etc. Below is what happens when you let it sit on structure and as a bonus you've got a bonding/grounding point nearby that probably charges the metal and accelerates the corrosion. This was directly beside a leaking drain under the lavatory.
That structure got completely removed and replaced.
Gotta clean ALL of it up. Tear things apart, inspect to find where it's spread to, perhaps dilute with fresh water to flush it out of places. Dry everything. Replace the carpet to get the soiled one cleaned. Juice on any connector means disconnecting it and cleaning it thoroughly, perhaps replacing components. Doubt this plane's going anywhere for a while.
bishop252@reddit
Feel like there has to be a better additive that wouldn't fuck up an airplane to the same extent that could be used.
BrewCityChaserV2@reddit
The entire aircraft gets scrapped.

It's cus Wichita is a shit city. My source: I'm from Wichita.
BlitzOverlord@reddit
IMO Wichita is just a city that makes me feel nothing. Not exactly the most entertaining place in the world, but I see why people settle down there. It’s relatively safe, extremely cheap, lots of professional jobs available, and decent schools. Much worse places to be, but certainly also better ones depending on what you want
LaddieNowAddie@reddit (OP)
It used to be better. It's kinda gone down hill.
ilrosewood@reddit
There are still great spots. I feel like whenever we lose a good one we also gain a good one.
LaddieNowAddie@reddit (OP)
I feel we've moved to be more chain-y
ilrosewood@reddit
There has always been a large number of chains in this town. We get a lot of franchisee trial because the dirt is so cheap here. But I can’t blame you for seeing that especially since the third Culver’s just opened and the 4th was announced.
And we are getting a Cheesecake Factory and there was something else I’m spacing on.
But we still have Saigon and N&Js and Sesame and Red Bird and Local Flavor and probably something in west Wichita but I only go to that side of town to fly out of Wichita or to come home.
And hell - even though Old Chicago is very much a zombie chain our local places have always felt like their own thing.
BlitzOverlord@reddit
Ohhh dude, Sesame is incredible. I went there every week when I lived there
LaddieNowAddie@reddit (OP)

I like it too. Don't live there anymore but grew up there and have a lot of good memories. The airport is really nice after the remodel a while back (although I'd expect a good airport at the Air Capital of the World!)

Last time I flew out of Wichita, they almost gave away my seat. I was boarding 30 minutes prior to departure after a delay. Apparently they boarded earlier. Only airport I’ve ever dealt with that.
