Can’t decide where to move to

Hey everyone, what’s up, I’m a 25 year old vet bro planning on moving solo to Dallas later this year. I’m looking at where to move to and I think I’ve narrowed it down through chat gpt to either Uptown or Victory Park. However, I want some real, legitimate input from you guys on where you think the best spot would be if you were in my shoes. My criteria is a little niche/weird but here goes, I want to be in a nicer, luxury-esque, high rise, 1 br apartment but nothing too crazy just something on the nicer side. I take in about 5k to 9 k depending on the month (I’m a remote worker and it’s complicated some months). I also want to be in a very walkable area that seems lively to step outside and be a part of (people on the streets, walkable bars and restaurants, etc.). I am very much a fan of being in the city centre and in that ‘heart of the city’ vibe so that is what initially attracted me to Victory Park because of the numerous high rise apartment locations there as well as the ‘big city’ feel. I just want what is the best of both worlds essentially. Also, I’m a somewhat social guy that occasionally likes to go out and play soccer, have some drinks, go on dates, whatever, etc. I would much appreciate if the area I went to had a kind of ‘community’ I could involve myself with whether that be soccer or other random things/activities. Any and all input would be appreciated. Thanks! (Also drop specific apartments/apartment areas if possible as well). Take care!

Hey OP, awesome that you are considering Dallas. As a fellow veteran, I strongly consider Dallas to be the best city for people in our circumstances, especially as remote workers. I moved here around six years ago as I used to travel a lot for work and saw how great the airport situation is for those who need to travel often. Neighborhoods I would recommend:
- The Village: Someone mentioned this earlier. I moved here 6 years ago with a woman I was dating at the time. I wish we would've moved to this location as we would've met friends easily and it has its own built in community + amenities.
- Victory Park/Harwood District: I lived around this neighborhood for a bit and got the high-rise feel. Loved the views that I had and the pool was nice. Happiest Hour, Harwood Arms, The Crescent, and Swexen
- Uptown: You could find a nice building in Uptown proper. I consider this area the area around McKinney Ave on down. It skews more towards your age range. Could likely find a nice place near or a 10-15 min walk over to the Katy Trail. I like Standard Pour and The Henry is another nice bar to go to. Bowen House is a nice date spot. Katy Trail Ice house good spot to grab some beers with friends.
- West Village: Similar to Uptown. They just opened a Hudson House here which runs a great Happy Hour. If you have a dog, Mutts is a great spot to have them play with other dogs and grab a drink and make friends.
- State Thomas: Cute little neighborhood that is super walkable with lots of bars and everything. Off Uptown. Not the high rise feel but lots of 20-30 somethings living here. Parliament is a great cocktail bar
-Lower Greenville: Really laid back vibes in this walkable neighborhood. Great restaurants and bars, Trader Joe's + Sprouts you could walk to. Literally you don't even need a car in this neighborhood as a remote worker. Original LaLa Land is here as well. Truck Yard is a great patio. Apothecary & The Old Crow are fun bars.
-Knox-Henderson: Right near the Katy Trail with lots of great restaurants and another Trader Joe's in the area. Chelsea Corner is an awesome bar in this area. Foxtrot great coffee shop, and I enjoy Anchor sushi.
Veteran-specific stuff:
- Although it can sometimes take time to get in, the Dallas VA has been nothing but great for my primary care. It's actually the second largest VA in the country. It's down in South Dallas but not a far drive at all, maybe 20-30 min at most depending on traffic. The VA mails all of my prescriptions, super convenient. I keep health insurance through my employer as it's cheap for a single person but the VA has honestly been better than when I was seeing private care, at least from a PCP and referral standpoint.
-Depending on your rating, in Texas those rated 50% or above qualify for disabled veteran plates. Registration is maybe $8 a year. These don't permit you to park in handicap spots, unless you have the ISA symbol for that, which I absolutely believe is the right call. Some people have cardiac, neurological, or orthopedic conditions which necessitate that. However, the DV plates, once you call the tolltag company, will enable you to park at both DFW airport and Love Field airport for free. Call the toll tag company so they will disable that at the reader for DFW airport. Also, you will not pay tolls on any tolls outside of the Dallas North Tollway authority in Texas and can park at any city meter for free without having to pay for it with the DV plates.
-Also, if you are interested in buying a home here, if you hold a P&T rating you will not pay property taxes on your homestead/primary residence here in Texas. Property taxes are extremely high in this state. Living in an area to earn a really good money and be property tax exempt and not have a state income tax is a nice position to be in.
Feel free to reach out. I love living in Dallas as a home base, it's super veteran friendly. My desire is that Texas becomes more women rights friendly, more LGBTQ friendly, and more weed friendly (we could take those revenues from legalization and reduce people's property taxes easily). Texas has treated me super well as a veteran. If you are religious, consider joining a church as that's a way I've made friends

If you want a really nice apartment and community. Also, while not in VP or Uptown, it’s a very walkable area.
