Moving NY to HK - dog travel not in cargo
Posted by Ok-Note-4108@reddit | expats | View on Reddit | 9 comments
Hi all. I am moving to Hong Kong from New York this summer and am looking into ways to get my dog there without having to fly him via the plane’s cargo. Does anyone have any experience or know anyone with experience using shared private charter (especially dog specific) companies? Thanks so much in advance.

There is a subreddit for pet travel

Ok, thanks. As a soon to be expat myself, I’m trying to get as much feedback as possible and therefore am asking across multiple channels.

You don't get to do socially obnoxious things just because you're going to be an expat. Just ask in the pet travel subs.

wow. You know you're a douchebag?

Ensure you have a good vet and that all the paperwork is in order. I suggest Cathay Pacific and ANA Airlines for air travel to and from the Americas to Asia. I've done this twice now, and the awesome customer service.

I’m sure you know all about the pet quarantine here etc

There are companies that facilitate pet travel. Your best bet is to find one local to you on Google with good reviews and talk to them.
We’ve done two trans-Atlantic moves (commercial flights) and used a service both times to deal with customs, vets etc.
Enjoy Honk Kong it’s a cool place, lived there as a kid.

I brought my dog from Brazil to USA via commercial air.

To preface: I didn't travel with my pets but I considered all options. Basically you need to take private plane. Cheapest is from Taipei, 4h flight, and that is the only way to bring pets in and avoid cargo (samo way when leaving HK).
