Only one car with Factory CD player.

It’s looking like I will only ever have one car with a CD player from the manufacturer. For most of the 90s and 2000s I used the tape deck adapter. My first CD player was when the factory unit in my 97 Subaru died and I replaced it with a CD player in late 2000s. My current car, a 2013 Mazda 3 is the only car I have ever had with one that came from the manufacturer. It’s getting up there in years and miles and from shopping for a new car for my wife not allot of new ones have a CD player anymore. I feel so cheated that this was something to aspire to having but only get to enjoy once. Streaming is fine but sometimes I want to listen to a whole album and the sound quality is better.

The car we gave our daughter, 2007 Honda Accord, had a 6 disk player in the dash. Last year we replaced it with a CarPlay unit that replaced the factory unit. The heater controls were integrated into the housing. I was surprised they made a direct replacement. She’s very happy not to have to use an FM transmitter to listen to the music on her phone. She also likes having a GPS.

Once my current car ages out I’ll no longer have a CD player and will be left with the conundrum of what to do with around 1000 CDs!
TimelyExternal5769@reddit
Put them on a usb drive, you'll have all of your cds available and if your car is newish you can play any of them by voice command.
TimelyExternal5769@reddit
My current car has a CD player, I use it to hold one of the phone holder/chargers that wedge in the cd slot.
Why would I want to carry my CDs when I can put 8000 songs on a thumb drive?
ONROSREPUS@reddit
nobody says you need to buy a NEW car. Just new to you. I have only ever bought one new automobile in my life. I won't do it again.
Shopping for low mileage used cars is the best finical way to go. Most likely to have a CD player in it too.
Oiggamed@reddit
I haven’t used the cd player in the last 4 cars I’ve owned.

My 2008 Toyota FJ Cruiser has a 6-CD Changer 🤩

I currently have a 2018 Acura with a CD player. I actually bought it instead of a slightly newer model in large part because it had the CD player. Crazy, I know. I mean, I liked the car, too, and it was cheaper than a newer model. It also has a hard drive, so when I put in a CD, it records it to the car's hard drive. My entire CD collection is on that car's hard drive now. I'm going to drive it into the ground.

My 2017 Prius has a CD player. I was so excited when I realized it because my last car's (2005 PT Cruiser) CD player quit working a few years ago.

I had a Celica, 1986, installed my first CD Player with removable face in it around 1993/4
TMQ73@reddit (OP)
Crazy I had a 86 Celica GTS hatchback.
RealtorRVACity@reddit
Mine was a GT w/auto prior to the 16 valve taking over as the powerplant. I covet the GTS, mine was slow but never had an issue with it and it went through snow like it was AWD.

I’ve had three cars that were considered mine in almost 30 years of driving. One didn’t have one until I added one, the next had CD AND tape, and my current car has a cd player behind its touchscreen. It’s 12 years old with under 100,000 miles so I’d rather not replace it anytime soon, but I might buy a used “fun” car that will probably still have a cd player someday.
Teaspoonbill@reddit
my favorite thing about my 2017 Hyundai is the CD player.
TripMaster478@reddit
Huh interesting. Since I've only ever owned four vehicles, I think I'm at three. 89 240SX, 98 Altima, and 12 Equinox all had them. The 21 Santa Fe I got last summer does not. Didn't even really think about it at the time to be honest. Don't really miss it with the intent connection to the phone.
Wacko_Banana_Pants@reddit
Wow. I had a CD player back in 1988. All the new cars have screens so it's almost impossible to replace outside of some major customization. I connect my android phone directly with USB and use Android Auto.
bruce-neon@reddit
Same, this is the only car I’ve owned with factory CD. It’s a 2014 and doesn’t have Bluetooth….
I usually just use aux cord > dongle > phone.
I never seem to have current car technology.
Natural_King2704@reddit
My car came with an am/fm radio and 8 track player
More_Pineapple3585@reddit
My car still has its factory CD player and I listen to them daily. I kept my entire CD collection and continue to add to it. CD (and album) listening is a different experience and I enjoy it tremendously.
bluenoser613@reddit
Still rolling with my 2008 that has a CD player. And, it plays MP3 too! Amaze! Amaze! Amaze!
Cysteine_Chapel64@reddit
Yeah, same here. The car I drove the longest was so old it actually had 8 track so I used a tape to 8 track adapter to play mixtapes in it. After the last used car was a PITA I finally had enough resources to get what I wanted so I bought a car with a stereo where I can plug in USB's and made 1000 plus track playlists for the car stereo. I also have Sirius now. Mostly bypassed the CD in car era even though I love CD's.

I have a CD player in my 2017 Ford Police Interceptor Utility, owned it about two years, never used it. These vehicles have some “old fashioned” features, like the CD player and fleet keys that don’t har chips.
jaxbravesfan@reddit
I have a 6-disc changer in my 2014 Nissan Murano. I haven’t used it in years. I connect my phone via Bluetooth and listen to Spotify. The CD changer still comes in handy, as I have a phone mount that inserts into the CD slot.

He's got a brand new car. Looks like a jaguar, Got leather seats, And a c d player.. Player Player player

Didn’t expect an obscure Feeder lyric when opening this thread, but here we are!
ThisusernameThen@reddit
I dont wanna talk about it anymore
Iron_Chic@reddit
Still have a 2008 Altima Coupe with a six-disc changer in dash as my zip-around car. Works like a charm!
BudBundySaysImStupid@reddit
Newest car I’ve had with a CD player was a 2020 Mustang, but you could only get the CD player with the B&O stereo.
NetJnkie@reddit
You can listen to an entire album on streaming with as good or better quality than CD. Spotify Lossless, for example. I have less than zero want to go back to CDs or other physical music media.
TheJokersChild@reddit
Apple Music and Qobuz are the go-tos for quality in streaming audio.
avidinha@reddit
I daily a '96 Fleetwood. It still has the factory tape/CD deck.
larue555@reddit
My son has a 2015 Pathfinder that has a factory stereo with CD player. I was a little surprised to see that.
carlivar@reddit
Have you heard of Dull Men's Club? Perfect post for them.
KurtStation68@reddit
With my 01 Subaru Forester it still has a CD player which gets used a couple of times a week depending. Sure there's streaming/USB stick but I still enjoy watching the deck consuming and ejecting the disc.
I'm going to assume my next new car probably won't have a CD and the USB might be considered as old/vintage technology.
chimpyjnuts@reddit
My apex was a 6-cd changer in my 2008 Pontiac G8, which would play mp3 discs, so that was a lot of music. Like many changers, however, it broke and would 'loose' discs, so I left a cheap MP3 player plugged into the aux port for the rest of it's life. After that it was bluetooth cars.
saranagati@reddit
If you’re using an iPhone / Apple Music over CarPlay WiFi, there are a couple settings you can change to drastically improve the audio fidelity. In settings > apps > music, change audio quality to lossless (I have no idea why this isn’t the default). Also change EQ to off, Dolby to automatic/off and sound check to off. After changing those settings my streaming music sounded a lot closer to CD quality than the default. Only downside is sometimes after the first few seconds of a song it will play two different parts of the song at once for like a second (though I haven’t noticed it lately so maybe that’s fixed).
TMQ73@reddit (OP)
Just checked. Thats the default on my phone. That said I don’t have Apple Music.
Mudlark-000@reddit
You can hook up a Bluetooth adapter to your CD player and stream it on newer cars. Hi-tech solutions to low-tech problems.
TMQ73@reddit (OP)
Sadly I feel like it’s going backwards since it’s kinda like what I used to have to do. Plus takes up seat space or is crammed in center console.
4158264146@reddit
Still got the factory cd player, I just have to find my cds now. My last vehicle also had it. I'm not into streaming music, like you said just put in a disc and listen to
justheretohelpyou__@reddit
I have converted my CDs to flac files which will play in almost every car directly from a USB thumb drive. The sound quality is the same and there is no longer a need to keep up with CDs.
Phobos1982@reddit
My current (2015) and former (2010) vehicles have CD players, but the ones before that (1997, 1989, 1981) didn't.
I mainly just use my phone and bluetooth. Got over 2000 songs on my phone.
gargle77@reddit
You can still buy aftermarket cd players for vehicles.
wyohman@reddit
I ripped all my music years ago and it lives on my phone.
