Are you in a house or a flat. Might be obvious to many, but I wasn't certain.
If you're in an upstairs flat, then no, carpet with thick underlay is the only way. House? The sky's your limit. I have a concrete floor, and now have amtico-type flooring, with a rug where I feel it's appropriate. Looks good, feels a bit cold underfoot but I wears foam-soled slippers in the house so no problem, and the dog likes the cool floor in the summer.
On to your question, if you want it, what might be the blocker? What's your bare floor? Is your floor solid enough to take a hardwood floor? Do you need any repairs to be done first? Can you afford it? Would cheaper alternatives be good enough for you? What about a good quality hard wood laminate?
I don't think Reddit can answer your question, but I do love a solid floor rather than carpet, so I hope you achieve what makes you happy.

I guess it was a big question to ask! Thank you for your insight, it’s a house, no dog, no kids, concrete underlay. Bottom floor. Could you send me a pic or two of what your decor looks like?? I’m really struggling with how i should decorate a hardwood floor living room :p

I'd prefer not to send pics of my home, but take a look at websites for www amtico.com, www.karndean.com and other suppliers so you can get an idea what it'll look like.

Yes definitely. Hardwood looks and feels significantly nicer than laminate.

Yes, we’ve got oak flooring in one of our living rooms. Best thing ever.

I have hardwood and love it

Cold to walk on in barefoot loud if wearing shoes, good stuff that will last and look good is very very expensive and not much fun if you and your partner want to have special cuddles unless you get some furry rugs

If you’re having those problems then you installed in the wrong underlay.
You are right that it’s terrible on the knees.

Don’t put down any kind of wooden flooring in your living room if you have neighbours living on the floor below

Go for it! Much nicer than skanky fitted carpet.
Pinterest is great for findinf inspiration for this kind of thing.

Do you have pets or kids? If so, unless you have a lot of money to spare I'd not get hardwood. A good laminate is vastly cheaper and more hard-wearing.
