In great shape, would love to get one
Yottah@reddit
These and a lot of other captured German equipment were photographed before being turned into the cathedral of the armed forces building
kieranfitz@reddit
Honestly the Russians probably still have whole warehouses full of captured German equipment
kholodnoyesteniy@reddit
They still have old lend leased equipment sitting in salt mines.
kieranfitz@reddit
They've probably forgotten more stuff than they've given out
Ponklemoose@reddit
And sticky fingered personnel have probably stolen still more.
AnonymousPerson1115@reddit
I wish I could be one of those with sticky fingers.

Wait until Ukraine has been over for a few years and none of the gaf about corruption anymore. They'll start finding ways of getting them to whoever has the cash for them.
Ponklemoose@reddit
Might be nice, but probably comes with a risk of a trip to Ukraine…

Hmm... I'm not a scientist, but I think it's not good to keep metal objects near salt.
GeneralBisV@reddit
Salt mines are completely devoid moisture thanks to the walls absorbing it all. It’s actually a great place to store items for long term preservation thanks to that. Along with the fact that practically no living thing can survive in an environment of pure salt
kholodnoyesteniy@reddit
It’s far worse to keep metal objects out in the rasputitsa.
pinesolthrowaway@reddit
They do. It’s long been heavily rumored from importers in the know that Russia is still sitting on a considerable number of G/K43s, but nobody would agree to import them here because Russia essentially wanted market price for non-RC G43s for them

A significant amount of captured matériel got donated to Vietnam, as well as other proxies sympathetic to communism in the decades after WW2.
kieranfitz@reddit
Oh I know but they still have shit tonnes
alexlongfur@reddit
True
Who_wife_is_on_myD@reddit
Where does it go now, though? Museums? Private auctions? How would a person go about getting a NOS p08, or any of these military barn finds? It's always so cool that they're discovered, but the discovery of this stuff always bums me out too because it feels like it'll all go into another safe, never to be shot or used at all. It's a waste almost
Jim556a1@reddit
After the 5k stg 44's were found in Syria nothing surprises me now.
P1xelHunter78@reddit
I’m not surprised. The Soviets destroyed whole German armies, and, they probably pried all those from cold dead hands.
ThisGuyLikesCheese@reddit
Or they just got them after the war was over and they didn’t want the germans to have them.
Redditholio@reddit
The famous "dipped" lugers. Should also crosspost in r/milsurp
No-Ground-6363@reddit
Same picture was in a Norwegian newspaper just after the war started but then it said it was Ukrainas that found them in a old sovjet bunkers that stored ammo and old guns like lugars and nagant revolvers and mosin nagant rifles and Maxim Machine guns and other weapons that they have to Ukrainas in the beginning before European countries donated modern arms to Ukraine. Ukraine only had old ak 47 and ak 74 and mosin nagant rifles and nagant revolvers
Skruestik@reddit
Lugers.
No-Ground-6363@reddit
Phone auto correct to lugars since i normally wirte in because i travel by boat often 🙈😅
Any-Bridge6953@reddit
I want one.
UH1Phil@reddit
One crate, right?
Any-Bridge6953@reddit
Or one shelving unit.
Tzampamanos@reddit
Soon to hit the frontlines of Ukraine
OhioTry@reddit
Have they gotten to the point of issuing Lugers yet?
SPECTREagent700@reddit
I’d guess these would get stolen and sold off by corrupt officers before that happens
potato-god329@reddit
You know any Russian officers? Asking for a friend.
SPECTREagent700@reddit
I actually do but he’s currently in Estonian prison for being a spy 😬
Nerdenator@reddit
most modern Russian infantry equipment
Terran_Dominion@reddit
You're having a bath if you think you're half inching that
R_Shackleford01@reddit
It’s pretty wild to think about all the actual work it took to make all of those pistols. From the iron mine all the way to the bluing tank, then they just get left in some warehouse to become dusty and obsolete. It almost makes me feel bad for the pistols.
thepvbrother@reddit
Wait until you hear about pallets.
Consistent-Coyote-50@reddit
Old spoils of war
No_Routine_1195@reddit
Isn't it the batch that got scrapped for the construction of the Armed Forces Orthodox Temple?
SuperMechaDeathChris@reddit
I thought that was tanks and not firearms
