Company driver with less than a year wants to become owner/op. Should I use my stock trading capital of $100k to buy a truck? I only bring home $1000/week as company driver . But I make $2k to $6k/week trading stocks .

Almost nobody with only 120k capital makes 2-6k a week trading. You lied in your post which made it seem better to keep day trading and then began arguing with people who said not to go OO. Why?
East_Indication_7816@reddit (OP)
What proof you want? And where do you get your "nobody" findings?
BRICH999@reddit
on the low end you make over 100% ROI per year and on the high end, 300% annual ROI. the best fund managers on earth dont average that with MUCH more capital and resources on hand(the best performer last year managed 55% ROI which is VERY good, the vast majority are 6-18%). plus your chart looks really sus, only going up? you are either lying, a time traveler or on the worlds luckiest string of trades.
plus the fact last year you had 100k and this year 100k, makes me think you probably arent gaining at 2-6k per week. if you are, you should get out of trucking and go manage other peoples money and make hundreds of millions from a home office anywhere on earth you want
ThreeQuartersSerious@reddit
Giving OP the benefit of the doubt: He’s probably been swing-trading trends; easy to hit 0.5-2% a week when you’re full-porting into whatever’s popular at the moment, and selling the instant you hit that threshold. Not in any way safe or sustainable, but believable in a short (3-6 month) burst period.
The real indicator here is Robinhood; Robinhood doesn’t have OCO orders, which are basically required to do any serious day trading without catastrophic losses.

This guy is a troll that is bored.
oneshadeoff@reddit
If you're making that much scratch day trading, what in the everloving FUCK are you doing in a truck?
East_Indication_7816@reddit (OP)
Trading stocks is boring . I don’t like scratching my balls all day
oneshadeoff@reddit
So like take up golfing or something lol. I can't imagine dealing with the nonsense we deal with behind the wheel because I want to
East_Indication_7816@reddit (OP)
And then when there is a get together or in a date with a chick I will just say yeah I just play golf all day and I'm a bum .
an-abnormality@reddit
Man what bum is out playing Golf in their spare time, has six figures in a stock portfolio, and a stable job lol you're in a good position. Don't let the hedonic treadmill make you think "I must have more."
Exact-Leadership-521@reddit
Get an RV and retire?
East_Indication_7816@reddit (OP)
Doing what? Scratching my balls all day in the RV??
username_fantasies@reddit
Just keep trading stocks. Keep. Trading. Stocks. Keep. Investing.
Immediate_Regular@reddit
Given all the absolutely moronic crap you've posted in here I'm comfortable calling this picture a lie.
If you had any self-respect you'd get out of the industry before you hurt or kill people. You can't manage to avoid stationary objects and keep your windshield clear of obstructions, but sure go ahead and buy a truck. When you fail at that maybe you'll figure out you don't belong behind the wheel of a semi and will slink back to your help desk level IT career.

Can u teach me
AndromedanPrince@reddit
no. why not just trade full time and live off dividends?
East_Indication_7816@reddit (OP)
My trainer is 72 years old and still working . People actually die quicker when they are doing nothing and have no purpose in life . It’s a fact . Those who retire end up dead in a couple of years
AndromedanPrince@reddit
you cant find a hobby?
East_Indication_7816@reddit (OP)
I go home daily and have weekends for that . I wall climb , rock climb., swim , gym
AndromedanPrince@reddit
u dont make sense.
East_Indication_7816@reddit (OP)
How many hours a day you need for a hobby ? You mean you need 40 hours a week for your hobby ?
AndromedanPrince@reddit
u have a hobby, make 2-6k a week trading. yet want to buy a truck and eliminate your free time. straight idiot moves.
East_Indication_7816@reddit (OP)
I’m local . I got lots of time . I’m sometimes home by 2pm and start at 7am . I have entire weekends . So why can’t I have a hobby ?
Kevo_xx@reddit
Have you seen fuel prices lately? This is the absolute worst time in history to become an O/O. I would stay as a company driver and keep investing until things turn around.
Camohunter0330@reddit
No
East_Indication_7816@reddit (OP)
I went to trucking not as company driver . I’m better than this . I got funds to buy a truck .
Naborsx21@reddit
I bought a truck for $40k spent like 0k on repairs then it cracked a head, all in 6 months I watched 70k evaporate. Lol
Freightliner15@reddit
It isn't all roses as an O/O. I see so many people switch and quit because they think they know what they are doing. Get more experience and learn everything involved.
an-abnormality@reddit
Famous last words
DirectionSensitive74@reddit
The truck is the least of your problems to consider! Rates are trash right now, diesel and insurance costs are through the roof not to mention maintenance and breakdowns. The only reason I’m still in business is because my trucks run on natural gas and I do all my maintenance. Do you know where to get loads from? Most brokers want an established MC number before they’ll give you work.
Camohunter0330@reddit
If that's your reasoning then definently do not become an o/o. I was an o/o for 10 years and selling my trucks and trailers and going company man was one of the best decisions I made.
It's not a good market right now. Might never be again.
AsphaltPirate74@reddit
Being an owner op is tough right now and most people fail because they think they can run a business because they know how to drive the truck. Not saying you're most people, but financially it's not a smart idea right now. I was a CDL Instructor for a trucking company and met plenty of guys that owned their own trucks but had to become company drivers again because of the market and fuel prices.
Big_Chemical_5165@reddit
Why even ask if you're gonna argue when someone answers? Lmfao just go do what you were already gonna do regardless weirdo
King0Horse@reddit
$125K at + %5/week would take you 43 weeks to be a millionaire.
Congratulations on a good week. Don't pretend it's consistent.
I think this is just a troll post all the way around.
East_Indication_7816@reddit (OP)
I did not say it’s always 5% a week . I just said in my post that’s the upper limit . But I can consistently make 2 to 5% a week . I know the risk but like anything in life like trucking , you manage the risk and do risk mitigation . Trucking and trading stocks follow the same principle . You do pre trip and drive within speed limit in trucking . You can drive faster and don’t do pre trip and it will make you arrive earlier and make more money , but in exchange for higher risk .
King0Horse@reddit
So you seem to have a basic understanding of risk management, but you're asking if you should take a lump sum that is consistency returning $2500-$6000/week and:
Remove it's ability to generate consistent returns
Use it to buy a beater of a truck that could possibly make you $6K/week if you don't have any breakdowns
Is that your question?
East_Indication_7816@reddit (OP)
Yeah I have feeling the company is ripping me off . It happens when you don’t know how much the customer is paying for these loads . $1k a week is like driving your small car to do uber or DoorDash delivering a bag of burritos . I’m driving a house .
anxious_polarbear@reddit
I saw this same bullshit post about a month ago. Fake.
East_Indication_7816@reddit (OP)
You been asking me about proof . Now I show screenshot and still don’t believe ?
Trick-Truth197@reddit
NO
MatrixUserNumberJuan@reddit
ABSOLUTELY FUCKING NOT
floydguitarist@reddit
If you become an owner operator, you won’t have time to trade anymore
redditman_of_reddit@reddit
Honestly your pretty much making what a owner operator is making unless you try to become a small fleet, but that requires much more capital. Start saving your stock money and trade at bigger amounts and you will be better. I know stocks is stressful doe lol
GabtsbyForaDay@reddit
With less costs, time and worry.
Existing_Meeting_318@reddit
Omg No!
Reallyhere25@reddit
No you shouldn’t I wouldn’t be trucking if I were you I would be full time trader. And also get into Tech since it seems you like to stare at screens all day
East_Indication_7816@reddit (OP)
I trade with my phone
Largofarburn@reddit
No, and you really shouldn’t be day trading either.
JakeJascob@reddit
This has to be satire.
Kruten10@reddit
What’s your age? If you are in the 20 yes 40 years no
Kapture916@reddit
Honestly if you got the skill to make 2k to 6k per week trading stocks and add owner operator income you will be making tons of money. But I do not know what state you are in but you have to be on top of your game for owner operator insurance repairs finding loads scales dot this that. If you have in you then yeah go for it also do not buy a brand new truck…buy a used one for like 30k-40k open up a company now wait 6 months register for Amazon do a couple loads on there to build your account.
Delicious_Peace_2526@reddit
No. A trucks a depreciating asset. You’re not going to earn much more money, you’re exposing yourself to a huge risk, if you stop going to work for a month for some unforeseen reason you’re fucked. Just invest your money and get a good company job.
sickrefbroh@reddit
Nice humblebrag. If this is an actual serious question, of course you should not become an O/O. If you’re consistently making more than your current paycheck from day trading, you should arguably quit your job and focus on that
NitroBike@reddit
Becoming an O/O right before diesel hits $12/gal around July. Yeah totally smart thing to do
ogloc1995@reddit
Dude if you’re able to make 2 to 6 k a week trading stock with a full time job you should just focus all your energy on stocks lmao not buy a truck when fuel prices are the way they are now.
Playful-Excuse-272@reddit
Absolutely not!!
barre9388@reddit
Your return will be lost. Don’t.
BroadYogurtcloset319@reddit
No
GiantEnemaCrab@reddit
Lmao yes because I want to see the hilarious follow up post.
Most O/Ops go bankrupt within the first year. Diesel is like 7 dollars a gallon. Do literally anything else.
icodyonline@reddit
No.. If you’re making that kind of money trading stocks, I would keep doing exactly what you’re doing and use your trucking money for fun money.
