Are you guys also seeing this ridiculous ad?

Not a day goes by, it seems, without me seeing these young blonde girls being so excited about their hearing aids! I used to always see ads about avoiding crepey skin, now it’s this. Anyone else?
OreoSpeedwaggon@reddit
I have some form of ad blocker on all my stuff, so no. Isn't it referring to boomers anyway? I wouldn't say this is Gen-X related.
Tejanisima@reddit
I could be wrong, but I think part of their point was that despite being Gen X themselves, they are getting ads aimed at the Boomer demographic ... on top of which there are a bunch of things "off" about the ad itself.
Authoritaye@reddit
Nope. I’m genX and we lost our hearing in our teens.
Tejanisima@reddit
Luckily for me, when the Walkman first came out, one of my parents read an article about the danger to one's hearing, and it had two simple rules of thumb I always used in the rest-over-the-ear headphones days:
Never have the volume loud enough that somebody next to you can hear the music.
Never have the volume loud enough you can't hear someone speak to you in a voice only slightly raised.

What? I can't hear you over the cicadas.
Fluffydoggie@reddit
There's one I see on instagram a lot with young, fit women in their early 20s and they're selling a band that alerts you to possible heart attacks. Totally not their market.
Tejanisima@reddit
You've reminded me of one I see sometimes in my mobile games ^((the kind where voluntarily watching an ad here and there gets you boosters)) in which an obviously slim woman is talking up how the fit of whatever cheap piece of crap clothing brand she's shilling is "so flattering" and how it skims right over her belly, when any look at the rest of her makes it quite obvious that's because she doesn't have one. Then there's the version where it's talking about how "slimming" this particular slacks style is, when they're plainly showing women who are already slender, wearing a pair of pants that would never in a million years look good on anyone remotely in need of a slimming look.
Wacko_Banana_Pants@reddit
I haven't seen a commercial or ad in years. Don't you have an ad-blocker of some sort?
dragon64dragon64@reddit
I haven’t seen any woman over the age of 65 look like these two, no matter how many facelifts they’ve had. It’s the plastic surgeon that should be advertising.
Ambitious_Peanut9761@reddit
A lot of the commercials I see are so poorly done I don't know what they are selling. Maybe I am getting stupid.
actual-trevor@reddit
The one I was getting for a while was a new, fda-approved, non-invasive blood sugar monitor, that looked exactly like a fingertip pulse oximeter. I shudder to think of all the people who are now thrilled with their 95-99 mg/Dl blood sugar readings. 😵
Federal-Membership-1@reddit
No. But, the availability of OTC hearing aids seems like a positive development.
ChrisRiley_42@reddit
Nope.. But I am not an American, and we have a boycott, so no serious ads would show the US flag here.
smokywater50@reddit
She looks good for 65
GeneralChoo@reddit
Why do you still even watch TV in this day and age.
ILoveCreatures@reddit (OP)
I’ve seen it mainly in Apple News
GeneralChoo@reddit
Apple TV?
TorrEEG@reddit
I'm way more interested in what she's using for skincare if she is over 35.

You have to harvest the organs of the very young (< 5 years old), but after that it’s just a daily routine!
Puzzleheaded_Bad6461@reddit
I mean yeah, but before that you have to network and unless you're a nepo baby you're gonna have to do some Renfielding. Hoo boy, and the luciferian humiliation rituals these days? Time was you could breeze through that by eating crab with a pickle fork or wearing white after labor day.
These days, you practically have to shot your pants on pay-per-view and you are not gonna like how that pickle fork comes into play
TorrEEG@reddit
So we've found something that we can't source on Amazon.
That's alright, I am past trying to look young. I may want to harvest some joints, though. Mine aren't working like the used to.

I have not seen that ad, yet.
Has any one else noticed that everything we watch is mostly commercials now? Oh, and the actual commercials go so fast my head spins. Especially, the car commercials with all the driving around real fast and doing donuts with trucks. Good lord I sound old 😭
analogpursuits@reddit
You can mute and look at something else when those blast your screen. I can't suffer them and that's what I do. I liked paying regular price for Amazon and not being interrupted. I hate it now. You're not still watching network TV are you? 😭 that's the worst and I can't.
ahshucks54@reddit
Hell no! I stream everything but I refuse to pay for no commercials because no commercials was why I started streaming in the first place! I mute and close my eyes 🤣 I was muting and playing games on my phone but I’m getting overstimulated…just shoot me now because it’s only going to get worse!!! 😭
analogpursuits@reddit
I'm actually watching way less now because of it. So, pbthhhhh Netflix and Prime!

ILoveCreatures@reddit (OP)
This is not a video ad, just something I scroll by 🤷🏼♀️
moopet@reddit
Why... why are you seeing ads as you scroll?
ILoveCreatures@reddit (OP)
If you use many ad blockers, that probably means that you know ads exist in this world. I find some very amusing, hence this post
sev45day@reddit
People over 65 are not GenX.
Having said that, as an elder GenX, I wear hearing aids because my hearing sucks and I have tinnitus.
I blame the Metallica "Wherever I May Roam" tour in 1992. My ears rang for ever a week after that show, but it was only one of many.
servetarider@reddit
Oh, I blame The Circle Jerks and every punk rock band I saw between 1985 and now. Wearing hearing aids is punk as fuck.
Mysterious_Can_6106@reddit
Is punk as fuck a good thing
root_fifth_octave@reddit
Worth it.
Every_Selection_6419@reddit
My dad plays the drums. He was annoying as hell by age 47 with having us repeat everything & refused to get hearing aides. So I just fucked with him so much that finally at 63 he got them. It’s hilarious because I will say something and he will act like it’s the first time he’s hearing it and then I realize oh shit he missed a good 16 years of stuff from being a stubborn old shit.
UraTargetMarket@reddit
Oddly, I blame a Morrissey gig for damaging my hearing beyond repair.
Thirsty-Barbarian@reddit
I blame the firecracker fights.
GatorNavy9002@reddit
I’m not yet 60, but I have tinnitus too. I blame a tour on a military airfield fueling aircraft. I was probably as young as these two women when my hearing deteriorated, but I am sick of this ad.
pommefille@reddit
Congrats, you have discovered rage bait/engagement bait. It’s supposed to be absurd, because it gets people to click on it.
One-Grapefruit-7606@reddit
I have new hearing aids in the last month, 55 female. Never once saw that ad in spite of all of my research. Moderate hearing loss for years affecting me professionally, fantastic decision BTW.
hawkm69@reddit
Ah yes I received mine around my 55th birthday. My employer paid 6k for a pair to keep me from having to retire or get some other employment. The difference is night and day. They definitely help in my second job of commercial creation.
Boring-Currency7049@reddit
I'm in the same boat, but younger by three years. It's JOYOUS to be able to hear again!
Mistervimes65@reddit
I’m running about eight different ad blockers. So, no.

That, and imo the best FF mobile feature is opening youtube links in a new tab instead of YT app, and avoiding the ad.
MattJC123@reddit

This ad doesn’t bother me as much as the Army recruitment ads. I mean, I am NOT their target demographic.
Dewellah@reddit
😆 I told my friend that I always talk to the ads (since they're listening anyway). Every time ozempic or glp-1 ads come on, I'm like, "I'm not fat. Stop trying to sell me this"... or that stupid Lume deodorant. I always say out loud, "Nope. I don't stink. I'm never buying this". I think it kinda works. The ozempic stuff has died down & I won't hear from the Lume lady for weeks before she'll start up again. 🤷♀️
Electronic_Fix_9060@reddit
I was surprised the other day to see an ad for a baby pram on Facebook. About twenty years too late for that one!
Oxjrnine@reddit
What frustrates me the most is these scammy ads appearing on trusted web pages. Like the page itself adds a level of legitimacy so people order the fake diabetes pills, the dark circles lotion subscriptions, the lose belly fat ads, etc
Dewellah@reddit
SO annoying! I heard YT creators commenting last fall that there were very few ads on YT for actual products. They were mostly pharmaceutical ads, scammy products, infomercial type stuff, etc. The odds of seeing an actual ad for, say... detergent or a toy were few and far between. I noticed that dragged on for a little while before it corrected.
jeffster1970@reddit
Not just this one, but also another one about Canadian seniors and they look about 30 years old. Maybe they're GenX.
Dewellah@reddit
Word is, they'll put you down like a lame horse in Canada these days. So any age could be considered senior - depending on your doc and your health.

I see a lot of these types of ads aimed at seniors, but will include the GenX age-range too, that make the people look decrepit, like around 80-90 years old lol.
MsAdventuresBus@reddit
I’m getting the persimmon soap ad for old people smell 🫤
ILoveCreatures@reddit (OP)

I'm a 60-year+old American. I've never seen these ads but I block almost all ads.
My wife has hearing aid and loves them. They not only work as hearing aids, but also as Bluetooth earbuds.

No idea what Bluetooth is, so that idea didnt work.

This is a huge stereotype and bigotry... but I just don't see GenX falling for as much of this crap as the Boomers before us. Maybe growing up with technology and infomercials taught us more lessons. My dad will see AI generated slop on Facebook ads and buy it for my kids and I have to stop him.

If 2024 voting statistics are any indication, genx is just as susceptible to young blondes selling them lies as boomers.

"Americans are ditching hearing aids for hearing aids" is such an American advertisement. On top of the "are you 65 or older" here is an image of a 25 year old for you to relate to.
