What are your personal best and worst choices?
HadrianWinter@reddit
C'me on, it was the 80s.
rollem@reddit
Early TNG was a perfect transition from TOS to a more modern aesthetic. But I’m old enough to still consider TNG modern so maybe just disregard my opinion on these matters.
Acrobatic-Shirt8540@reddit
That episode filled me with so much hope, and then right at the end they took it away from me.
SemiSentientAL@reddit
You wanted them to fire at Will? (Wheaton, not Riker.)
SnarlingLittleSnail@reddit
Yes he committed a terrible crime and should have been executed. It is sad that his sentence was not carried out and there was no justice
The_Real_Miggy@reddit
When Will Wheaton covered this episode in a podcast, he said "This is the one where they clothed an entire planet with about 10 yards of fabric."
SnarlingLittleSnail@reddit
They should have let him be executed, would have been better for show in the long run
fluff_creature@reddit
Knuck world
Mental-Street6665@reddit
The male skirt uniforms in Encounter at Farpoint are something no amount of bleach will ever be able to remove from my eyeballs.
RhydYGwin@reddit
Something always confused me. If they're all free and whatnot, and letting it all hang out, why do the women and girls have to cover their chests when the chaps don't. Isn't that a double standard?
NeedABetterPillow@reddit
Because we still gotta be able to watch it on cable television.
CommodoreBluth@reddit
If Roddenberry didn’t have to deal with TV censors I’m sure the woman would have been topless.
QualifiedApathetic@reddit
Might be more a matter of protection. Aren't women's chests more sensitive?
Conscious-Magazine50@reddit
I doubt that. There were civilizations that had women with uncovered chests until relatively recently. That's one of the reasons the colonists looked down upon some indigenous women. I think it's a cultural norm that's really strong now.
Marvinkmooneyoz@reddit
If they are like humans the they want to cover up a bit
DougFordsGamblingAds@reddit
I legit love campy, horny Star Trek.
CSWorldChamp@reddit
So… Gene Roddenberry Star Trek. Notice how all the “interesting wardrobe choices” pretty much dropped off the map once he was no longer involved…
ShortBussyDriver@reddit
Because Berman was prudish and only harassed people off-screen.
opusrif@reddit
The varsity enforced on Seven of Nine , T'Pol, and the plunging necklines of Deanna Troi would suggest otherwise. He was more than willing to exploit women for ratings. Just avoided the same with the male form until UPN insited with Enterprise.
only-niche-interests@reddit
TV shows watched by a large majority male audience has a handful of attractive women dressing slightly sexy. What a scandal.
Remote-Pie-3152@reddit
Bullshit, women have always been about half of Trekkies. The fandom wouldn’t be what it is without us. Therefore if Trek is going to be horny, it should be horny for all of its audience.
only-niche-interests@reddit
Yes it should be, but women have not been half of trekkies. Thats ridiculous.
nerdguzzle@reddit
Thanks for your input “onlynicheinterests”
Remote-Pie-3152@reddit
Despite the stereotype-laden image of fandom that’s been fed to everyone by lowest common denominator pop culture trash like Big Bang Theory, the fact is we’ve always been about half of the Star Trek fandom. And about half the Star Wars fandom, too. Check contemporary sources, like actual reporting of the attendance of fan conventions during early to mid TNG, they’ll back me up. Or look at actual footage from such events, and simply count.
SirStocksAlott@reddit
Sub Rosa for everyone!
Remote-Pie-3152@reddit
Oh, Ronan…
SirStocksAlott@reddit
I skant believe this.
Final-Fun8500@reddit
Yeah. I've listened to the audiobook novelisation of The Motion Picture a couple times while falling asleep. I woke up to/half heard sexy talk I didn't remember from the film more than once. I guess the book was more similar to Roddenberry's original script. It was horny.
But it wasn't bad. I'll prolly listen all the way through at some point.
EidolonRook@reddit
So much awkward sex.
myexpressaccount@reddit
Exactly, and where's the equality??? If the men are topless, why aren't the women? ;)
Soggy-Advantage4711@reddit
The hirsute fella on the right helped me define my emerging sexuality
Remarkable-Pin-8352@reddit
"We should maybe cover up the teen girl a bit more."
"What about the teen boys?"
"Nah go nuts."
LordOfFudge@reddit
Young me thanks this choice for my gay awakening
royal_city_centre@reddit
When she's like "let's run!" I discovered a new love for running.
Remote-Pie-3152@reddit
TNG made me a communist, DS9 made me a trans lesbian communist 🥳
opusrif@reddit
Unbelievably the younger guys here don't show as much moose knuckle as the adult males...
ShortBussyDriver@reddit
They did go nuts.
QualifiedApathetic@reddit
Hmm.
https://memory-alpha.fandom.com/wiki/Judith_Jones
She'd just turned 17 when the episode aired. Maybe they wanted to dial back the skimpiness.
JohnnyEnzyme@reddit
Oh my. oO
ofuujin@reddit
Still better than dress klingon.
cobaltbluetony@reddit
I believe the game was called "freeball" 😏
GeneSmart2881@reddit
The Sex Planet. SO Gene Roddenberry. Just like Worf Encounter at Farpoint “WORF!! Is this your idea of sex!!!??”
AdmiralAK@reddit
Roddenberry was a horndog...case solved.
ChimPhun@reddit
Sorry, I always thought Risa was quite cringe. It's like a Diddy party in planet size, and that gets celebrated throughout the Federation wtf?
SnatchThatGravyUp@reddit
How is it like a Diddy party when everyone there is a consenting adult? I’d say it’s more like a cleaner, more respectable version of the Hedonism II resort in Jamaica.
Zorpfield@reddit
😅🤢
ramfoodie@reddit (OP)
I just thought there was a fabric shortage on that planet...
shadowndacorner@reddit
Why use many clothe when few do trick?
Zorpfield@reddit
Floydianslip77@reddit
Thanks, Kevin.
opusrif@reddit
For some reason you never see guys in this cosplay at conventions...
GRCphotography@reddit
Yep but remember it was the Decon Gel on Enterprise that got everybody icked
AceHexuall@reddit
I did like how they all wore matching blue boxer sets, though.
Ralph--Hinkley@reddit
Where do they hide the UT?
AceHexuall@reddit
Based on DS9: Little Green Men, the UT is an ear implant. Still trying to figure out how that works for both parties.
Mountain-Piano5383@reddit
Next time on TNG: The crew visits the Grey Sweatpants Planet on a diplomatic mission. Riker immediately goes native. Data speculates on the pros and cons of their garments, missing the point entirely. Dr. Crusher can't stop smiling. Captain Picard gives a monologue about the measure of a man.
AceHexuall@reddit
ROTFLMAO! Underrated comment. Bloody hilarious!
AlarmingDetective526@reddit
This was the episode that taught me to always pay attention to the background actors 😂

Natural_Level_7593@reddit
I'm ashamed to say that I've spent far too long analyzing the bulges in this picture, and only one of them matches expectations. I think the shorts on the left may have been put on backwards. I have no idea what the situation is in the middle.
dnkroz3d@reddit
Anything among these three will get me arrested
Big_Librarian_6306@reddit
You mean THE FUTURE of fashion?! I’m looking forward to the launch of the Anbo-jyutsu league. The ultimate evolution of martial arts.
General-Skywalker_@reddit
Roddenberry living his best life with this one
Rav_3d@reddit
Good thing there was no woke culture back then.
strangway@reddit
Maybe you didn’t read those parts in American history class. 1865 was an interesting year.
MrBubblepopper@reddit
Well, gotta burst your bubble.
Woke = accept you for who you are
Star Trek = accept life for who they are. The prime directive is exactly this engrained in the command structure of an organisation. The old trek just didnt showed gays etc.
multificionado@reddit
Yeah, enough for him to become almost a pariah.
docharakelso@reddit
I think the rods and berries would disagree though
RandomDeinonychus@reddit
I've seen this episode multiple times and my first thought on seeing this was still that it was a scene from a porn film before the action starts.
mycroft-holmie@reddit
I think it would be funny to redo that episode using only redditors. My big hairy gut hanging outta that silly-ass costume, I’d never stop laughing. 😆
SemiSentientAL@reddit
I feel like the men's shorts would be great for us fat dudes. The high rise on the side would protect our love handles and the open front woukd accentuate our bulge. (Our gut bulge, that is. I mean, hey, it's hard work to get off the couch, get to the fridge and Crack open ANOTHER cold one. We might as well flaunt all our hard work!)
R400TVR@reddit
Judith was gorgeous, a teenager me had a big crush on her!
MordoksVapePen1@reddit
Rockin Knuck!

Tasha: “I don’t belieeeeve this!
fartingbeagle@reddit
Riker's saying: "You're just jealous of my matching codpiece".
nahman201893@reddit
It would be decades before we saw the deep V come back
OrganicHistorian2576@reddit
Both. Because sexism. But then Riker had an awesome chest.
NormalCup7946@reddit
I prefer a certain formality on the Bridge. I'd appreciate it if you wore standard uniform when you're on duty.
AnnihilatedTyro@reddit
Ok look, it's the daily repost of Edo costumes.
PauseAffectionate720@reddit
Closest Star Trek got to soft porn 🤣
rustydoesdetroit@reddit
Smash
Trick-Love-4571@reddit
I mean I’d wear those shorts lol
criscodisco6618@reddit
I've long wished that men's pants would include a pubes window, honestly
Hukares1234@reddit
You really surprised by this? Don’t you remember this?
qpv@reddit
Id wear that
SnooPaintings5597@reddit
Dangerously low cut jeans. Way ahead of their time. TNG was always cutting edge
ninjamullet@reddit
These pants are from a famous Vulcan designer V'Nek.
ryhoyarbie@reddit
I wonder how many times crewmembers had to suddenly go to the bathroom when looking at half naked guest stars in this episode?
More_Pineapple3585@reddit
Aggravating_Mix8959@reddit
I'll be in my bunk.
Used-Gas-6525@reddit
The fact that this happens like 5 seconds after he leaves Famke Janson is so fucking gross. They don't even try to be coy about it. It's just like 'yup. Riker's gonna bust a nut with hologram Famke'.
GGuts@reddit
Appropriate_Lime_101@reddit
They should have been realistic. People would never wear something so stupid ...

Glad to see scantily clad dudes too.
HVSlung@reddit
I can only shake my head at the early outfits these days.
Different-Audience34@reddit
I see where Harry got the idea to put the women's outfit on to massage her in dumb and dumber.
