Thoughts on it?

See, I'm 16. My car that I was gifted was a 2005 Jeep Liberty. It's got all the fun fancy stuff because it's the top trim. Could gas mileage be better? Absolutely. I'm looking at other SUVs to possibly upgrade to but then I keep looking at sedans for the gas mileage and I just don't know a good, reliable (I'm not worried about maintenance bc I can do it if needed), SUV that's between compact and mid-size but I can never find one that's good between liking and that has a good gas.
I currently am putting work into my car. I recently ordered a catback exhaust system, new led headlights that have daytime running, I plan to get a sub because I already have all the wiring, possibly a suspension, front grille guard, etc. Safe to say, the car has been fairly good to me, and I've been good to it. It gets me from point A to point B and that's what matters right now.
After highschool, I'm most likely moving to Deleware, and of course, there's snow up there. My car does have the 4wd which I do really like, but I haven't had experience to use it yet because I where I currently live there's no need for it. If I don't end up in Deleware, it'll be middle Tennessee. There, I'd like to do trails, mudding, etc. Essentially, I've learned my car is just an extreme shitbox, but I do wanna have fun with it while it lasts, but I still like to look at other cars for backups for when she does finally go out.

Id strongly suggest selling it and literally getting anything else.
If you do not when this car shits the bed you’ll think back about this thread and how arrogant you were
Maleficent_Crew_6774@reddit (OP)
I'm not in the current position to sell it.
GezelligheidBoyz@reddit
Ok
Maleficent_Crew_6774@reddit (OP)
Believe me, I've debated it. It's just other stuff in life right now and kind of difficult to do at this point in time
titanium_bruno@reddit
This is the sub for advice on how to do exactly this though. If you like it, keep it.
But there are sedans that can also handle snow. WRX, anything with Quattro system, BMW X drive, etc. And you can probably find a WRX for the same value as the Liberty.
Maleficent_Crew_6774@reddit (OP)
aren't most WRXs manual tho?
titanium_bruno@reddit
No.
Maleficent_Crew_6774@reddit (OP)
I gotcha. Still awhile out before I would be to get one tho.
titanium_bruno@reddit
Also, ANY Subaru is AWD. legacy, outback, impreza, outlander. All of them. The legacy imo is a very nice sedan. Its their full size sedan (the wrx/impreza is a mid size) so its roomier and "classier" inside. But still awd
Maleficent_Crew_6774@reddit (OP)
Ah I see. Is the WRX just the sportier version of the impreza?
titanium_bruno@reddit
Correct. The Impreza is the "base model" then it goes up to WRX and then STI. The STI being their highest performance level.
Now here's where im not quite as knowledgeable.
I believe the WRX is N/A and the STI comes with a turbo already. Thats the big difference. The STI also has more aero on the body.
But they are all Imprezas.
The legacy is a step up in size and comfort but not a step up in performance.

Meh have fun with it and at get your experience in doing little mods that you enjoy. When i was 16 i was doing dumb mods to a foxbody mustang. Dont expect to get any money back at all for the car when you sell it though lol. If i were you id pick a different car though.
kellyms1993@reddit
Stop dumping money on mods into a jeep liberty. Save your money and buy something you’ll like
Maleficent_Crew_6774@reddit (OP)
It's gonna be at least another year or two IF I got something different. I'm not currently in a position to sell it
kellyms1993@reddit
Either way. Stop dumping money into it
Maleficent_Crew_6774@reddit (OP)
Eh I prefer to have fun with it 🤷♂️
titanium_bruno@reddit
Its more so that money could go into your next vehicle and a liberty isn't going to sell for much, especially with an exhaust on it. The typical market for a liberty will probably want to buy it for less than market value if it has mods.
Maleficent_Crew_6774@reddit (OP)
when I go to sell it (whenever it be and depending on the miles), I'll probably shoot for $3000-3500
titanium_bruno@reddit
If it is too modded i.e. exhaust, lift, etc you will likely not get that because the next owner will see them as things to "fix" not "enjoy". Hope that makes more sense.
Maleficent_Crew_6774@reddit (OP)
ah I see
titanium_bruno@reddit
There are niche drivers ofc who wouldn't mind a modded liberty, but you'd have to sit on it for quite some time to find one. Most people driving liberties just want a cheap daily with a jeep badge. If it were a wrangler or Cherokee then sure.
B777X_787-9@reddit
Liberty is trash sadly ,get another one car
Maleficent_Crew_6774@reddit (OP)
Sadly I'm not in a position to get another car right now. However, when I am able to Id like to get a 4runner, but that would still be awhile away
SirFUBAR@reddit
See, I'm 37. Don't modify a shitbox. Just run the wheels off it and put that mod money in your 'next car' fund.

There's snow in Delaware??? Where in the heck do you live now? Miami? Brownsville?
When it snows in places like Delaware, everybody buys 4 gallons of milk & 20 loaves of bread per person then stays home for a couple days until it melts.
Maleficent_Crew_6774@reddit (OP)
I live in southern AL
loweexclamationpoint@reddit
You'll be fine in the Liberty. A bigger problem is when the thing breaks down on the drive home from Delaware for Thanksgiving and Christmas
Maleficent_Crew_6774@reddit (OP)
Well no no I wouldn't be traveling between the two. After I graduate, I'm moving to North DE
loweexclamationpoint@reddit
Great car for weekends in Philly. Nobody's gonna steal it, and should handle the potholes.
Maleficent_Crew_6774@reddit (OP)
It won't be a lot of traveling to AL
jrileyy229@reddit
You shouldn't put any money into a 20 year old liberty other than what it needs to keep going.
Elegant_Fish_3241@reddit
HELLNAH!
2005? Off
Jee? HELL NO.
JEEP LIBERTY? OH MY GOOOOOOOOOOD. RUN. RUN FOYO LIFEEEE BIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIISH! RUUUUUUUUUUUN!
Maleficent_Crew_6774@reddit (OP)
what's wrong? It's literally been good for the last 10 months. Yeah I've done some work, but practically everything under the hood is new
Elegant_Fish_3241@reddit
Jeep Liberty is one of the worst cars in terms of reliability. You have inherited a ticking timebomb! Repairs are gonna cost more than a new Corolla.
Datboi_Markus@reddit
Yeah sorry OP but your beloved liberty is going to liberate you of all your savings. If you wanna keep driving it until it dies then I’d support that but definitely don’t be dumping $1000s into it for “modifications” because that money is basically just being burned. Anything you’re planning on spending on it should be saved for when it inevitably decides it’s had enough
Maleficent_Crew_6774@reddit (OP)
We'll see lmao

Elegant_Fish_3241@reddit
Dude is modding a 20 year old Liberty. Just burn the cash instead. Faster. LMAO
Maleficent_Crew_6774@reddit (OP)
I mean I've seen several even on fb marketplace reselling with over 220k+ miles on em. They even have forums man. I don't plan to keep it for another 5-6 years but at least for a few. In 10 months, I've driven like 6k miles. I don't know what the math would be and mine has 176k miles currently, but I'm not worried about it. Just proper maintenance, oil changes on time, etc. With that, almost (key word) any car can be reliable
Elegant_Fish_3241@reddit
Bruh. You sound like a Kia & Stellantis salesmen. LMAO
Maleficent_Crew_6774@reddit (OP)
Don't get me wrong, I personally wouldn't buy kia or Hyundai. I do like jeep grand Cherokees but not the brand new ones. A lot of it comes down to people doing maintenance on their car or not. A lot of people don't and then wonder why it breaks thinking it's the car's fault when it could have been avoided with maintenance and doing routine checks on everything
Elegant_Fish_3241@reddit
There are things you can't avoid with maintainance bruh. You need to learn more abotu cars and why certain cars and certain models BREAK even if you change the oil every 2,000 miles.
