Low intelect. I say it as a Romanian. Maybe we still have the tendency to see the Americans as the saviours that we waited to free us from CeauČescu. Is also the toxic antiintelectualism, the admiration for a con man who is a bully. Those are what we admire, a rich bully. Our president has a phd in mathematics at Sorbonne and was a Gold medal Mathematics olimpic, genius level, and the average Romanian will laught at him because he is kind of an introvert that may seem awkward at social events. So the answer is mostly because we are stupid and we admire rich bullies.

They helped them when they had their insurrection here, bailed them out a few times and practically protected and funded the UCK branch that later became a party with a very criminal element. This numbers have been taken from Kos Data and pretty much repeated over and over. nevermind that Kos data wrote Noldova, so theres that.
Romania in general is pro America. For many of them, Trump, Obama, Biden, Clinton are irelevant. What matters is if they are president. Sure, some romanians may hear about Epstein or ICE, but they don't care that much, just sad stories. We could argue its a a "we salute the uniform, not the man" type of thing.
Romania has many similarities with USA, which wouldn't be a bad thing, if we copied good stuff, but we copy exactly the worst. Both countries have a very anti-intelectualist mentality and now Romania has its own MAGA, who of course like Trump (he loves the porly educated from everywhere I guess). Nevermind that while other conservatives and right wing parties in Europe are trying to distance themseleves from Trump, the Romanian one has doubled down, simping hard for the Orange Turd.
I would also point the fact that while Trump has been openly histile towards some EU countries, Romania so far has only been praised. Will that actually do us favors? Unlikely. But he and his goons have praised us and that sounds good for many romanians.
So I'd say all these combined lead to Romania having a good opinion on Trump.

It's not complicated - Romanians love America and the West (and fear Russia). So they will have a positive view of any American president, including Trump, just like they did with Clinton, Bush, Obama, or Biden.
There was some poll where Romanians were one of the few populations which rated favorably pretty much every Western leader - even if they were quite opposed to each other.

Romanian here, and I would like to point out that we have an oddly high approval for Putin too. As a matter of fact there's a large percentage of people who are missing the days of oppression under the communist era lead by CeauČescu.
Hope those numbers are painting a clearer picture. It's increasingly obvious that the average Romanian doesn't know much of politics. I don't mean to be rude towards my own people, but most of the voters are usually bribed with a bucket of flour or sunflower oil, soo...

The coalition suck up to Trump so that he gives them credibility to bail them out for cancelling elections in 2024.
