I have always felt that those shitty shows and remakes are really a way for producers to funnel money out of Hollywood studios and used as a business loss by the studios later.
RLM speculated that this is exactly what the "Jack and Jill" POS film was, cash cow for Sandler and Pacino.
I just think of remakes as essentially extra-large pieces of merchandise associated with the original product. Like the videogame adaptations that used to come out alongside every blockbuster. Take the lilo and stitch remake from last year: almost nobody will say it's better than the original. DEFINITELY nobody will say it should outright replace the original. All future merchandise for the lilo and stitch franchise will be based on the original. It has no more cultural impact or impact on the lilo and stitch brand than a particularly well-selling plushie would.
"You know xir, you told me the other day that you go by fae/faer pronouns. But just now, your boiwife referred to you as he/him. Forgive me if I'm ignorant, but I don't understand it."
"That's because I'm genderfluid, Lieutenant."
"Oh of course, how problematic of me. That must be it. Your gender identity changes over time. But, uh, excuse me if I'm being too forward, didn't you tell me last week that gender is a social construct? Doesn't that mean it isn't real, if you don't mind me asking?"
"Just because it's a social construct, doesn't mean it isn't real."
"Oh right, I guess that's so. But just one more thing. You know what's funny, is that I looked at your Bluesky profile and in an argument with a chud you bleeted that race isn't real because it's a social construct. Now maybe I'm just not getting it but to me that doesn't add up."
