a.k.a. “Hurl ‘n Twirl”. Fun Times!
Natural_Estate4216@reddit
This was my favorite toy when I was little.
Th1088@reddit
Man, I spent way too much time on this.
dying-of-boredom1966@reddit
I can't believe there was a point in life where being spun around felt good, I went on a tilt-a-whirl at a fair last year and almost stroked out
HeyKrech@reddit
The last time I went on a Tilt-a-Whirl (*MN invention) was about 12 years ago with our kids. I thought my spouse was being a big baby when they told me they felt SO SICK going on one a few weeks prior.
I was so wrong. I was nauseous for a solid week. That inner ear balance water really does dry up with age and WOW that is not funny.
I do miss those good spin around games. The Sit-n-Spin was the best!!
minicpst@reddit
I went on Star Tours at Disney yesterday and had to close my eyes through the whole thing and hope for the best.
Then use my cane for most of the day because I need a new hip.
la_winky@reddit
Oh yeah. Rides are so different now (I got it, it’s me).
I loved my sit and spin as a kid.
Dull_Swimming_5407@reddit
I wish there was an adult version!😄
GordCampbell@reddit
We called the the Whirl 'n Hurl. Good times.
Dramatic_Side_856@reddit
Because you get nauseous?🤮
ForgottenGenX47@reddit
I never understood this insult. Sit on what, your middle finger? Your dick? Why am I spinning?
Ok_Industry3016@reddit
So fun.
lumpy4square@reddit
I just loved this toy.
Hyphum@reddit
Had exactly this color. Hours of recreational eustachian distress
this_kitty68@reddit
Mine was blue. I loved that thing! Gimme the Gs!!!!
togetherwegrowstuff@reddit
Omg yessss
JhazaBoo@reddit
I had a blue sit n spin as a kid.
Mad Tea Party and Tilt a Whirl are my fave carnival type rides. Once went to local carnival and ride a spider type ride (goes up and down while car spins), never getting on that one again. Was nauseous after exiting.
Wolfman1961@reddit
This…..and the Big Wheel.
WinninRoam@reddit
And The Green Machine!
Wolfman1961@reddit
Yep.
tilt-a-whirly-gig@reddit
This was my passport to adventure ...
sideways92@reddit
Just looking at this makes me dizzy and nauseous.
Lopsided_Panic_1148@reddit
I bought my daughter one when she was little and she had zero interest in it. I was bummed out, man.
WayPowerful484@reddit
Still does
witchsneeze@reddit
It used to, too
raendrop@reddit
Mitch Hedberg reference detected.
WayPowerful484@reddit
Perhaps in the future
jawnly211@reddit
🖕- sit and spin on THIS!!!!
verstohlen@reddit
Up your nose with a rubber hose!
raendrop@reddit
Up your butt with a rubber duck!
Ricekake33@reddit
I remember growing too big for this, which sucked!!!
Dark-Wolf-Angel@reddit
We need an adult version of this.
deathbypumpkinspice@reddit
They sell them on Etsy
GenXer-Bitch@reddit
It’s on my DIY list of things to make: https://www.abbottsathome.com/make-this-super-easy-diy-kids-toy-sit-spin/?utm_source=Pinterest&utm_medium=organic
Dark-Wolf-Angel@reddit
Makes sense with the lazy Susan hardware.
evilJaze@reddit
We have it. It's called "sit on it and rotate".
housevil@reddit
Oh man. That photo looks exactly the way mine did the last time I saw it about 40 years ago.
Substantial_Diver_34@reddit
What’s it mean now?
DynamiteWitLaserBeam@reddit
It's usually accompanied by an extended middle finger, if that helps paint the picture.
Paperbackpixie@reddit
I loved this thing
Khryen@reddit
My 2 year old has one and loves it
CrocusCat@reddit
The first and only time I threw up at a birthday party.
SynXis_ps2@reddit
I feel dizzy just looking at it
Rabbit_of_Caerbanog@reddit
Mine was blue with green puke accents
SnuggleMoose44@reddit
I think it meant the same thing even then. I at least remember in the 1970s, we were not allowed to say Sit On It and my mother wouldn’t say why!
newdawn-newday@reddit
wasnt it because it was a Fonzi saying and some people confused TV nice guy pretending to be hoodlum-adjacent with an actual bad guy.
SnuggleMoose44@reddit
No, it’s because they cleaned up the more vulgar phrase of, sit on it and rotate. Apparently said in the 1950s and my mother was a teenager in the 1950s!
UnicornFarts1111@reddit
Do you remember the seatbelt campaign slogan "don't sit on it!"?
SnuggleMoose44@reddit
Vaguely. You’d have to ask my mom why she forbade it. 🫢
stametsprime@reddit
My dumb 4 year old ass thought that if I got really dizzy I could spin in the opposite direction to counteract.
That’s…not how it works.
BOHICAbeast@reddit
Anyone else smell this picture? Hands? Just me? OK ...
airwalker08@reddit
Does it smell like vertigo-induced vomit?
moschles@reddit
my headcanon is that "sit and spin" was already being used as a crude insult in the 1970s and maybe earlier. Then after that, the toy was introduced.
redditidothat@reddit
You can still buy these brand new. Name hasn’t changed, either.
ljlkm@reddit
Just got one for my great niece.
LadyNorbert@reddit
I had the red one, my sister had the blue one!
The_Bandit77@reddit
I had a ton of fun with this toy as a kid.
UnicornFarts1111@reddit
I had a blue one!
Lost_Taste_8181@reddit
Had a blue one. Used to get up early in the morning and spin for hours. Drove my parents nuts.
wdatkinson@reddit
Should have been called the Sit-n-Spin-n-Puke.
Global-Ad9080@reddit
Ish was fun, but our toys were trying to kill us.
DreadPirateZoidberg@reddit
A local park still has one of the old steel merry-go-rounds with no governor. It has a retaining wall on two sides and the parks inspectors regreased it instead of removing it because they’re cool.
Electronic-Lunch7735@reddit
I remember the plastic of our childhood- super dense and heavy. When you looked up close, there were little striations in it
gauriemma@reddit
We were easily amused as children, weren’t we?
DCLascelle@reddit
Lol.
Reasonable-HB678@reddit
Leave him alone, Ram... (IYKYK)
Neat_Ad_3268@reddit
Leaves reddit. Goes to Ebay.🤭
New-Investigator7569@reddit
Well you can go sit and spin for all I care.
srelysian@reddit
I mean, you say that, but i distinctly remember the goal of this thing was to see how long you could keep down whatever you had to eat for lunch. Maybe not nice.. still fun. I will go with fun.
ogcanuckamerican@reddit
It's still nice.
opticsnake@reddit
I mean, I remember the toy but I also remember using the pejorative version in the early 80s.
TheJokersChild@reddit
Z+ kids made it mean something else now?
SurviveDaddy@reddit
I found one of these in a Goodwill. My toddlers love absolutely love it.
