Seems like a good deal

So I am not ready to buy, I have boat money but not boat time. So I am just crewing for now. 15 years again until ready for my own boat but I came across this. Does this seem to be an exceptionally good deal? What am I not seeing here?

I'm not seeing a price, so I have no idea if it's a good deal or not.
I will say - I'd hesitate owning a blue boat. Hope you're a fan of lots of detailing!

You’ve got to click “back to details” near the top. Extensive list of every component. (And price)
Playful_Quality4679@reddit (OP)
$52500.
New_World_Native@reddit
I would look elsewhere and get a survey on anything that you're considering to purchase.

I don't think it's an exceptionally good deal, if you really wanted it you could get it a lot cheaper. 40 year old boat that was a Charter(built for the moorings) used hard and put away wet. The hurricane damage wouldn't necessarily scare me if I knew exactly what was done/had pictures of the repair, etc. I'd definitely push for those records
It's also quite large which means the upkeep will be incredibly expensive. 50 Ft is a lot of boat to take care of and find slip/storage for.

Where did you see a price?

$52,500.

This is a Down Payment on a boat
That will own you

Mooring ball, but yes noted. Working hard to pay for boat money.
cdemarc3@reddit
Gotta think crew too. A 40 footer can be handled by a couple, a 50 footer you need crew. All the loads are exponentially bigger
Lord-of_the-files@reddit
That's a bit of a generalisation. We're 47ft and my wife and I, both quite small people, can handle everything.
Playful_Quality4679@reddit (OP)
We have two big kids, ok a lil too much boat for a couple.
drossmaster4@reddit
I used to single hand my dads 50’er and when I had crew let’s be honest they didn’t do much at all. Two older kids will be enough to help.

I have been involved in more than one ex moorings yachts. I can tell you that they have minimal maintenance and they were abused, used and put away wet so to speak. This is not a deal it is a gamble. In my view. I have been a yacht broker for 35 years and crewed and owned several boats/ over the years.
overthehillhat@reddit
Sounds like most Trade-Ins
DarkVoid42@reddit
hell no. its not a good deal at all. ex charter crap monohull with hurricane damage ? hard pass.
get a nice new catamaran or something if you have boat money. a 40-44ft catamaran can be easily soloed and will run you half a mil in good used condition non charter (owners hulls) or about a mil new. i would do new.
btongeo@reddit
I don't mean to be rude but I think we have very different ideas about what boat money means! You can buy a lot of boat for much less than a million or even quarter million. Great if you can afford it but for a lot of people that's completely out of reach.
DarkVoid42@reddit
im talking about good boats which need very little maint. not the usual junk.
btongeo@reddit
Fair - but I still think you can get a good boat for say £60k (or $75k) for example. And surely they all need $$$ on maintenance.
SphyrnaLightmaker@reddit
You when from “nah don’t spend $50,000” to “just throw out a million”.
I don’t think you’re very well grounded in reality

OP:
SphyrnaLightmaker@reddit
I understand that numbers are difficult, but it may shock you to discover that there are quite a few numbers between 50,000 and 1,000,000.
950,000 of them in fact.
The more you know…
DarkVoid42@reddit
i understand you may not understand numbers because you dont have any but it doesn't mean other people dont.
SphyrnaLightmaker@reddit
lol you can pretend to be an internet rich man all you want.
The truth is painfully obvious.
DarkVoid42@reddit
yup. its painfully obvious.
SphyrnaLightmaker@reddit
Suuuure kiddo. Definitely yours lol
DarkVoid42@reddit
yup. definitely not mine.
SphyrnaLightmaker@reddit
lol definitely not random pictures, no way no how!
DarkVoid42@reddit
totally.
SphyrnaLightmaker@reddit
lol dude you’re hurting your case more than helping it
DarkVoid42@reddit
its fine. i moved the same boat 8,000nm and took pictures 10,000nm weeks and months apart. but its not mine at all.
SphyrnaLightmaker@reddit
You sure did! Look at you go!
DarkVoid42@reddit
would you prefer a picture of my plane instead ? seems you dont believe anyone owns a boat.
4runner01@reddit
Cheap to buy…..but very expen$I’ve to own

The words Deal and Boat should not be allowed in the same sentence.

A good mistress…..she’ll be high maintenance and expensive
DropperPosts@reddit
....it was in a hurricane and no records of the damage or repair work is available.
Run
Playful_Quality4679@reddit (OP)
Or get a survey.
repOrion@reddit
Naw likely run. It’s one of those ‘the price portends the value’ even a great survey won’t tell you what happened and if it was fixed correctly.
Without those records will you be able to get insurance?
Playful_Quality4679@reddit (OP)
Got it.
GCPhoenix@reddit
Questionable hurricane damage.
Playful_Quality4679@reddit (OP)
Noted.
secret_hitman@reddit
Knocked off the stands without record of damages sounds pretty sketch.
