What do you think about N.Macedonia's nationalistic government accusing the EU over it's frozen path?

The government of the called Vmro party ruling in coalition with the Albanian party has formed a government in 2024, refusing to amend the constitution to add minorities including Bulgarians and to proceed for opening the negotiations, which is a condition set from EU council from 2022.
Recently Skopje accused EU, while the agreements that have been done cannot be changed.
Bulgaria officially has no veto over MK and there are no plans for any new negotiations or ammenmends of the agreed.
Skopje officially stalls behind Montenegro and Albania which might soon catch the enlargement.
The self imposter veto has costed MK to stall even further.
New_Accident_4909@reddit
Allow Macedonian as a minority in Bulgaria ans maybe they do the same.
Or stay hypocrites, idc.
ExoticAd7546@reddit
There is no need to have minorities in our constitutions everyone is welcome by default.
New_Accident_4909@reddit
Gaslight level pro
ExoticAd7546@reddit
What's gaslighting Bulgaria literally has a different type of constitution and there are NO minorities defined not just macedonian? Everyone has equal rights regardless of entnicity, religion etc. You want us to change the way our constitution works fundamentally because of Macedonia? Their constitution and country is setup differently and it is a multinational state with EXPLICIT minorities in the constitution for all groups except bulgarians. Better get educated before spilling such bullshit thanks
MeanAd2587@reddit
I agree. Change the constitution and say that it’s a country created of all people and don’t divide them by ethnicity… I am aromanian living in Macedonia, we are in the constitution and I don’t see the point of it. Nobody asks about my ethnicity abroad, they see my passport and say oh okay you are macedonian
shortEverything_@reddit
It’s to highlight Aromanians ect have equal rights to ethnic Macedonians - you even get your own public holidays
How can you agree with Bulgar gaslighters that it’s nationalistic when their setup is clearly nationalistic?
MeanAd2587@reddit
I don’t agree with a nationalistic bulgar, the guy is having a discussion… you are the one being nationalistic in the discussion. And yes I am ready to lose my privileges and national holiday in my home country if that means living peacefully and we all have equal rights, something the ‘you Macedonians’ are not willing to do. By your comment you make it seem like you have given us something and now we have to thank you? Without us vlachs Macedonia as it is wouldn’t have existed and yet here I am still fighting to be called Macedonian and doing sacrifices for our country. P.s maybe the guy from Bulgaria commenting is also Romanian but he calls himself Bulgarian because he loves his country and all people living there?
shortEverything_@reddit
My vlach brother you’re a Macedonian national but you can also be ethnic Macedonian if you want - you identify with what you want. I’ve got Vlach ancestry but I’m simply Macedonian and you can identify the same
The reason why Vlachs are included in the constitution is the help preserve their language and culture - this is inline with the Illinden Republic where Vlachs had equal rights
Bulgarias constitution is assimilative to every group except for Turks (clearly they fear Turkey and rightfully so) - that’s nationalistic by definition as it oppresses minorities from seeking minority rights
Why is there no Vlach organisations or language centres in Bulgaria? That’s right they’ve been assimilated into Slavic Bulgarians - similar policy to Greece
ExoticAd7546@reddit
Yeah I think it is fucked up way of further dividing the population in a nationalistic way. And the fact that Bulgarians of all people are not even part of it tells you everything.
shortEverything_@reddit
Gaslighting - the bulgar constitution is written a nationalistic manner that washing out explicit minority mentions - our constitution indicates Vlachs, Albanians, Bosniaks etc have equal rights to Macedonians
Respect the Macedonian minority and we will add Bulgars too
Salt_Fennel8876@reddit
There are reasons why the Bulgarian constitution is the way it is, and that has nothing to do with the Macedonians.
MeanAd2587@reddit
But why are we all listed, aren’t we all Macedonians? If you meet me in the street you’ll never know what am..let’s make it a country of all people and don’t list the minorities
ExoticAd7546@reddit
Oh yeah probably that's why this model of constitution is way more common in the EU, USA etc. You see an example above how stupid this is and how it makes some people feel like secondary citizens.
shortEverything_@reddit
The only gaslighters here are the bulgars like you - you don’t even allow Macedonians to register their own ethnic community centres! Condemned by the UN and European Commission of human rights!

Mysterious-Put1459@reddit
Ethnic organisations with political goals are restricted in Bulgaria. Particularly those that are have ulterior motives such as spreading ethnic hatred and anti-Bulgarian sentiment as yours. Turkish and Romani organisations exist because they don't demand exclusive Turkish or Romani benefit. The "Turkish" political party's current leader is literally an ethnic Bulgarian. You want something that doesn't exist here. Don't be acting all naive and victimised, you don't care about Macedonians in Bulgaria the least bit. Not only that but you are currently making a conscious effort to offend Bulgarians by calling us Bulgars. If you cared about human rights, and good neighbours' relations you wouldn't be such a hypocrite. The real reason why your politicians insist on reciprocal measures is because putting the Bulgarians in your constitution in exchange of nothing is political suicide to whoever commits to it. Because the results of that, i.e. joining the EU will not happen right away, and by the time it happens that party would have lost it political footing due to nationalistic public scrutiny. Perhaps, those parties don't want the EU regardless of public opinion at all, but you do you
shortEverything_@reddit
Gaslight gaslight gaslight
Tell that shit to the UN and European Commission of human rights
When rights to express self determination is classified as political goals lol
Mysterious-Put1459@reddit
I explained simple enough which organisations are restricted. If you don't understand it or perhaps you understand it but don't like the answer and want to spin it to make it look discriminatory, that's your problem. Those organisations funded by anti-Bulgarian political goals are publicity stunts performed by the same guy for the last 20 years. I suggest you research him and come back. We can work on resolving our human rights issues with UN and EU. This doesn't include adding Macedonians to our constitution, so if that is what you are waiting for, sorry to disappoint you. You have very clear EU demands in front of you, but you deliberately avoid them and instead scapegoat Bulgaria because your politicians are corrupt and influenced by Russia and the common people are gullible enough to drink that nationalistic slop instead of focusing on your inability to close even 1 EU accession chapter.
Strange_Status_7690@reddit (OP)
It is so allowed on census and these people were one the same over a century ago. Constitutional changes in MK are EU demand by the French diplomats and covered by all EU council countries since 2022.
New_Accident_4909@reddit
So were Montenegrins and look at them go now.
People have the right for self determination, both as Macedonians in Bulgaria and as Bulgarians in Macedonia.
Its that simple
Strange_Status_7690@reddit (OP)
In Bulgaria there is no minorities as special category in constitution but collective rights, so on census there are people declared as MK people along with Turks and others.
Skopje uses tactics from Yugo era because they don't want to deal with the criteria and play the victim rule. It is a nationalistic party very similar to that In Serbia.
New_Accident_4909@reddit
You are not helping a moderate party out by taking such stance towards Macedonians. If you were less aggressive in denying their identity they would not choose idiots in power.
Strange_Status_7690@reddit (OP)
Identity is neither recognized or abolished in international law. It's that in MK another government already reached agreements with Bulgaria and the EU first in 2017 and later in 2022. However it's true that in MK the maturity of the nation is still backward and they need more time to understand their history first, no matter the idiots in power who are really ugly people.
New_Accident_4909@reddit
See, you could use a mirror. You think your attitudes would bring anyone over. You are literally same as aggressive Serbs that deny Montenegrin identity. Just chill
mpo1893@reddit
Fuck the EU, enough is enough.
Strange_Status_7690@reddit (OP)
Stop going to EU. MK, Serbia and Bosnia should anyway stay out of EU. No nationalistic countries should enter withouth fulfilling criteria.
mpo1893@reddit

I think that Bulgaria is out of control and someone should give them a slap or two.
Salt_Fennel8876@reddit
Bulgaria is interested in North Macedonia entering the EU in the fastest way possible, even without conditions. Only Moscow is interested in North Macedonia not entering the EU before Serbia. And in Bulgaria, there are quite a few people who carry out Russian orders.
Solid-Scarcity-236@reddit
Bulgaria is only interested in its own interests and those are: Bulgarian history, Bulgarian language and Bulgarian nation in North Macedonia and nothing else. And guess what? The people of North Macedonia are sick of everything that even slightly resembles them of Bulgaria or we can say that the people of North Macedonia passionately hate Bulgaria and that fact won't change with the approach that Bulgaria takes towards us. Either Bulgaria will accept that there is a Macedonian nation with its own history and culture, distinct from the Bulgarian one, or the relations between both countries won't see the light of the day, it is going to become only worse. How is that in the interes of Bulgaria, I really don't know.
Salt_Fennel8876@reddit
No, this is not in Bulgaria's interest. Not at all. That's why I assume that the initiators of this policy are not actually patriots, no matter how much they say they have patriotic motives.
Strange_Status_7690@reddit (OP)
wasn't mk Vmro a faked political party and faked ideology behind ?
shortEverything_@reddit
Fake political party how does that work?
No-Championship-4632@reddit
What does Bulgaria have to do with it and who is expected to give us a slap or two?
MeanAd2587@reddit
Half of our government officials already have bought Bulgarian passports and are use EU privileges. They don’t want us in the EU because it will be harder to steal and plus with this petty nationalism it’s easier to manipulate the mass. They say that if we add the Bulgarian minority in the constitution that would mean that Bulgaria created Macedonia bla bla. I think if we add them it would definitely mean that Macedonians and Bulgarians are two different nations 😂
Strange_Status_7690@reddit (OP)
Skopje will never join EU it's stalling even behind Albania
MeanAd2587@reddit
Skopje is a city, so you are right it can never join the EU. North Macedonia on the other hand theoretically still can.
Strange_Status_7690@reddit (OP)
MK cannot join EU until it fullfis all criteria for which in mk there is neither politicians to do that, nor a will on a short term. It's naturally aligned with Serbia, because it was born from the Yugoslavia, and the Yugo issues cannot enter EU neither in MK or in Serbia.
the real problem for MK is that Albania will join EU in 2030, while Serbia might never do it as it's history and hegemony as a neutral country is such, making it MK a possibility to dissolve as a country.
MeanAd2587@reddit
So what you are saying is that basically In theory we can join the eu or we will dissolve
Strange_Status_7690@reddit (OP)
Yea that's what my predictions tell. MK is a complex country and is tied to all neighbours but most notably we see that Albania is overruning MK so this is a real danger for MK.
Bulgaria on the other hand has no territorial pretensions or black disposals for MK, the conditions itself are regulated by eu which means EU will not let in anyway mk to enter without clearing all issues.
MeanAd2587@reddit
Eu has no benefit of letting MK join. I mean let’s be honest what can we bring that is of use to eu? 70% of the people are against eu. Maybe it’s good if another country has territorial pretensions 😂
Strange_Status_7690@reddit (OP)
Yea MK as a failed country will not stay in a limbo indefinitely as times will change but it can easily dissolve as a nationalistic bubble
Salt_Fennel8876@reddit
Actually, you're absolutely right. As a Bulgarian, I've always wondered why Macedonians oppose including Bulgarians in the Constitution when many other countries are already listed there. I even think this idea is inherently anti-Bulgarian—against the Bulgarian narrative of history. That's why I believe the issue isn't with Bulgarians. The main problem is the possibility of North Macedonia entering the EU before Serbia. That will never be allowed to happen.
PlamenIB@reddit
Its their country and their decisions. This is it.
Strange_Status_7690@reddit (OP)
However asking for another negotiations, sounds the ethno nationalists there don't want EU, simply as that.
dwartbg9@reddit
They don't, they're definitely being controlled by Russia and/or Serbia, and they're literally shooting themselves in the leg, trying everything possible to fuck up things in their country, and especially halt their EU membership.
Appropriate-Ad5877@reddit
Macedonia is a US puppet state,. EU membership is used as a political talking point by all parties but no political party would really want EU membership. They are stealing way too much money in this (transition) status quo. So we will always be in EU purgatory.
Strange_Status_7690@reddit (OP)
MK might dissolve as a country after 2030, because Albania will join EU.
MK is a Yugo, British and Serbian aligned which means it stays out of EU until it fulfill the hard criteria.
alkorisno@reddit
Blaming all your problems and national diagreements on Russia and Serbia for some reason is as the most childish thing you can do
Mysterious-Put1459@reddit
I wouldn't say its our problems, more like it's their own problem. It affects their own EU path of accession, and if they want to be in the EU, it's in their best interest to solve their problem. If they don't want to be in the EU, thus no reason to solve the problem, they shouldn't be scapegoating Bulgaria to dodge responsibility. Serbia is not so much of a originator as it is a bridge between Russia and North Macedonia for that influence to funnel toward Skopje
petrop36@reddit
Can you provide an example of such an influence?
Strange_Status_7690@reddit (OP)
It's a Serbian operation as Serbia is stalling all countries. It's political as the stalling is obvious. But EU being aware will not let nothing to change so there it is mk in a limbo.
trisul-108@reddit
It might be a "Serbian operation", but it is executed by North Macedonia nationalists.
Strange_Status_7690@reddit (OP)
It is so indirectly because those "people" cannot rule without hostilities and disputes being prolonged. Solutions don't work especially short term.
petrop36@reddit
Why would I as a Macedonian want to be seated to the EU fascist and Communist?
Mysterious-Put1459@reddit
I don't know. Why would you?
trisul-108@reddit
North Macedonia is stalled by North Macedonian politics and nothing else. In order to become a member of the EU, they need to become more like EU members. It's that simple. If they are going to go wild on pro-Russian nationalism i.e. be patriots who work for foreign enemy powers, no one else can help them.
This is a matter of maturity of the nation. The EU cannot prevent North Macedonia from destroying itself, it can only help if North Macedonia decides that enough is enough.
shortEverything_@reddit
The EU is not providing guarantees of future vetoes from Bulgaria despite fulfilling obligations so fuck it
People are fatigued and discouraged from the Prespa agreement so enough is enough for us
Rich talking about pro-Russian nationalism when Bulgarian elected via majority a pro-Russian president
NoSync22@reddit
How tf could the EU provide guarantees about one of its members using a future veto or not? By using a crystal ball?
shortEverything_@reddit
Look at the Prespa Treaty with Greece it’s called an Erga Omnes bilateral agreement
It’s what ultimately allowed us to get into NATO without Greece changing its mind after we changed our name
The agreement with Bulgaria gives them to opportunity to veto even if we fulfill our side of the agreement
No loose ends simple as that
NoSync22@reddit
That’s an agreement with Greece, and certainly a similar one could be made with Bulgaria. I don’t see what the EU’s role would be here.
trisul-108@reddit
I don't know why you think it good to be as fcuked up as Bulgaria.
DeInking@reddit
Because you are coming to get Bulgarian passports. Because Bulgaria has been a EU member for nearly two decades now while you still can’t figure out if you are European.

shortEverything_@reddit
Ok hear it from our perspective given there’s a lot of noise from neighbours
Literally the EU is refusing to give any guarantees that Bulgarian won’t veto us again for any reason once we add the Bulgarian minority to the constitution. Not only that they decided to remove all references of ‘Macedonian’ in the recent review report at the request of Bulgaria.
A Prespa like agreement approach is more practical where there is guarantees of no vetos if we fulfill our side of the obligation. Why agree to buy something when the true price is determined in the future? No thanks
Strange_Status_7690@reddit (OP)
Nationalistic politicians from Balkans will not enter the EU so they are installed only to steal.
the conditions are set by the EU and not by MK which has had so much disputes and not willingness to right them. So even if your opinion is only your own, it's still means nothing as disputes never enter EU
shortEverything_@reddit
We ask for guarantees simple as that - otherwise no thanks
Would you buy something where your told the price you have to pay at a later date?
Nationalism is Bulgarian MEPs wiping out any reference to the adjective ‘Macedonian’ and even calling us a Serbian satellite state on the EU stage - it’s the uttermost disrespect
RegionSignificant977@reddit
And how your government will guarantee that needed reforms for EU membership are met? Your government can postpone reforms forever and you can stay out of the EU forever because of your government, not because someone else. Which means that people in your country that consider themselves Bulgarian are held back by the actions of lack of actions of your government.
shortEverything_@reddit
How was the Prespa treaty between us and Greece achieved? That’s an agreement with no open ends
But overall that was brokered by America not the EU
RegionSignificant977@reddit
I'll tell you how. You have changed your country name before Greece agreed anything concerning your country. Now you only have to add Bulgarians in your constitution and you will be fine. It's not near similar with changing the name of your country. Nor is something that will have such impact in your country. If any at all.
shortEverything_@reddit
No what the fuck are you not comprehending Bulgar?
The Prespa treaty is Erga Omnes which means both parties need to carry out obligations and Greece could not Veto us as long as we fulfil our side the promise
wtf are you talking about? We changed our name to N Macedonia as per the Prespa agreement and Greece did not veto us into NATO
markohf12@reddit
Great, can your state guarantee that? The official response of your state is "No", so therefore we aren't doing anything. We are all perfectly aligned with not being in the EU otherwise.
RegionSignificant977@reddit
Why do you ask Bulgaria for guarantee if it's up to you to do the requirements for EU membership? Since when Serbia has candidate status? https://www.euronews.com/my-europe/2026/04/20/eu-considers-freezing-serbias-15-billion-in-eu-funds-amid-rule-of-law-scrutiny
Maybe you will be next.
markohf12@reddit
Because our gov. wants to do it, they have nothing against adding the Bulgarians to the constitution, they know it's an EU requirement now, but they can't because they came to power with a promise that it's bad so they are looking for a "we did a thing and now it's fine so that's why we now did it" and that "thing" was some sort of guarantee, which your toddler state said "No" instantly.
No sane Macedonian politician will do the changes now when your (6th gov in a row this decade?) elected a pro-Russian politician who's statements from 2022 were to "kill the Macedonian idea".
Also, not sure if you are looking at our numbers, but we are doing perfectly fine outside of the EU and Eurozone and happy to keep it that way.
RegionSignificant977@reddit
Where is that "kill the Macedonian idea" coming from?
markohf12@reddit
https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=hoMvxOaHb-g
RegionSignificant977@reddit
He didn't said legitimacy of "Macedonians" but legitimacy of Yugoslav macedonism. Macedonism is claiming that Tsar Samuil was Macedonian. Even Serbian historians will laugh at that. I know you hate yourself and your own people. I'm also Macedonian. My great grandfather was VMRO, born in Stip and fought for liberated Macedonia from Ottomans. He had to come to Bulgaria not to be killed by Serbs when Stip became Yugoslavia.
markohf12@reddit
I have two living great grandparents at 91 who live in Sofia, I understand what he means, most Macedonians were basically thought to hate Bulgarians during the YU era and I wouldn’t really say that I do hate myself or my country, more like the politics, but what I am saying is that this is possibly the worst way to resolve this and that I personally believe that Bulgaria is making things far worse.
We should’ve just let the historian commission do their jobs without getting the politicians involved, they already did agree on Tsar Samuil tho.
RegionSignificant977@reddit
The reason for the veto is exactly the refusal of cooperation of your history commission. There are far more things apart from Tsar Samuil. Your history schoolbooks aren't changed to this day. And that's Macedonism. Yes, you were thought to hate Bulgarians and every third Bulgarian has Macedonian ancestry. Like me.
markohf12@reddit
They are, Bulgaria even reviewed them (5th and 6th grade history, not sure if we use the same grade scale).
Not always, Bulgaria started pushing political narratives through the history commission, one such narrative was to change the "Bulgarian invasion of WW2" to "Bulgarian administration during WW2" which is factually incorrect.
The only reason for the Veto was for Bulgaria to gain additional leverage, it was an easy political win, it achieved nothing but jus straining the relations.
RegionSignificant977@reddit
It is factually correct. German armed forces took over Yugoslavia and Yugoslavia capitulated at 17th of April. Bulgaria entered Vardar Macedonia two days later. Bulgarian forces had a lot of collaborators. Main forse that fought against them were Yugoslav communists. That in fact later were the ones that wrote your history books. Even Chento was against anti Bulgarian propaganda and was imprisoned because of his views of greater autonomy of Macedonia. Pavel Shatev formally protested to the Bulgarian embassy, claiming the new Macedonian language was being artificially "Serbianized" and that the use of Bulgarian was being suppressed. In 1948, alongside Panko Brashnarov, he sent a memorandum to Stalin and Dimitrov, criticizing the Yugoslav Communist Party for its anti-Bulgarian policies. Again imprisoned and died in the jail soon after that. Panko Brashnarov also. So even among communists there were people that weren't anti Bulgarian even people that consider themselves Macedonian Bulgarian.
Strange_Status_7690@reddit (OP)

Strange_Status_7690@reddit (OP)
In Skopje governmental coalition there are Serbian nationalists also. And they do pretend, the thing is they want to rule without control for as long as possible and to eliminate the internal political opposition, so means stalling and self imposter veto until they go on another elections in the worst case scenario on regular ones for 2 years from now, and then change politics.
ivanp359@reddit
Im pretty confident we had a similar treaty, which wasn’t really followed. And that’s why the initial veto was applied. Later we had the “french proposal” (also agreed by both countries), which tied the “Prespa” and “Good neighbours” agreements to your accession. Perhaps there’s something else?
Original-Hall-9832@reddit
Got successfully bullied by Greece for over 20 years while the "democratic" EU stood a silent witness. In the end a sovereign country (Greece) made another sovereign country (Macedonia) change its name over a potential membership in a temporary organization! This organization (EU) said nothing all the way. Oh wait... they did say something- that they were standing by their member's lunatic interests (Greek) to entirely rename a perspective EU member country. Wow right?
Seeing how that "good" example supported by the EU went, now Bulgaria is doing the same with (North) Macedonia. But with historical criteria and demands for amending of the Constitution. EU accession at this point is a total joke as Copenhagen criteria mean nothing, while individual member countries whims have become the rule for membership.
Hope the EU stands behind Hungary and Slovakia's interests this time too with their pro-russian interests. But wait again... now they've started singing another song with talks of isolating even punishing their own members. Hypocrites to the core! Stay away from this temporary undemocratic organization. UK was right to leave.
Strange_Status_7690@reddit (OP)
While the so called Vmro party has been destroying mk since as usual as the absence rule of law and the ancient greek statues of Skopje has been the only their product.
Why don't you think this way, if you have no politicians who can provide solutions, but only behave like victims it is so why people there have been influenced under heavy propaganda for decades as MK is also one of the poorest European by geography country along with Bosnia and Ukraine.
Original-Hall-9832@reddit
That's all you have to say on EU's stance and silent witness for the last 2 decades? And their current hypocritical actions today when something else suits them? What values does the EU really hold?
Strange_Status_7690@reddit (OP)
Skopje installed ancient greek history for 10 years and didn't want solutions with Greece. I can't defend Greece, but MK is a failed state and will not join EU for a long time, probably if ever.
Original-Hall-9832@reddit
In the end with such obvious double standards the EU will be a failed organization (I can't even name it as "Union") 100%
Strange_Status_7690@reddit (OP)
Bulgaria was smart to wait for MK to resolve the issue with Greece first as it was in a weaker position back then. It did helped MK slot during crises since the 90s.
But today it's position is much stronger and no bypasses will be made, so MK will have to wait a long time.
Original-Hall-9832@reddit
Really nice to see first neighbors hijacking the enlargement process instead of judging one's progress by the actual Copenhagen criteria... And the total hypocrisy of the rest of the EU.
Strange_Status_7690@reddit (OP)
The bad news for MK is if Albania, which is probable gets into EU. After that not only MK might get into additional internal problems, but EU might stop to expand as it will need to be reformed to accept more countries. So either way MK is fcked mainly because of wrongdoing of their own politicians and Vmro as a ideological and conservative political party.
Original-Hall-9832@reddit
Don't forget the first to fck it was Greece, by facilitating many windows of missed opportunity in the last 25 years. Gave a constant and reliable push towards to bottom. But karma is a btch. And has been such with Greece since 2008, and will be for much longer until it becomes a third world country.
Strange_Status_7690@reddit (OP)
MK was created to be a buffer zone between large nations so when emerged as a independent country Bulgaria was also out of communist era and a weak country with internal economic crises since the late 90s.
There were no politicians in MK who could done a deal with Greece. We see however, today after so long time MK being a failed state as it's history proofs and repeats today, because the poorest countries will overrun it for EU.
Original-Hall-9832@reddit
So your advice is that North Macedonia should capilutate or does what... Self-euthanaze? 😂
Strange_Status_7690@reddit (OP)
MK people have a long road until they see the picture, for which their nationalistic politicians are blinding them.
First, EU has the picture of how these countries will be integrated and you should know the proposals came from EU directly and are followed and judged by. This is also applied for other candidates. There is no veto currently to speculate what will happen in future, but a road that needs to be started first.
Original-Hall-9832@reddit
Aha yes, one of those examples is the Greek blackmail to push Cyprus forcefully into the EU. Or how many criteria Romania and Bulgaria fullfil at the time. 😂
Strange_Status_7690@reddit (OP)
If Gotse Delchev was Bulgarian how is supposed for MK to enter EU with it's faked history ? The veto might be applied but nothing is guaranteed, and you are right some have had more luck over some others.
Original-Hall-9832@reddit
Did your country fulfill any historical criteria to join EU? No? Then why should North Macedonia?
Strange_Status_7690@reddit (OP)
Candidate countries cannot dictate criteria to integrated countries. Those that had no disputes entered as clearly as it was back then.
Original-Hall-9832@reddit
😂😂😂😂 go jump in a river and sink
Strange_Status_7690@reddit (OP)
well MK is a candidate country only, and might stay like that forever, nor until it fulfill all criteria.
Original-Hall-9832@reddit
Or karma might come to bite you like Greece which is in free fall since 2008, and actively turning into third world country. Doing evil, brings back evil. Remember that.
Strange_Status_7690@reddit (OP)
Skopje will never join EU, those that do it actually karma eats them so it's the case for MK
Beautiful-Dish-6275@reddit
VMRO is still around? Crazy
Strange_Status_7690@reddit (OP)
HDZ is in power for 12 years now right. MK is a failed state similar to Bosnia, but in a way still better.
Beautiful-Dish-6275@reddit
I wasnt trying to insoult, its just crazy that it sticked around for so long, like wasnt it active ever since the interwar period?
None of our parties that were formed back then are relevant today.
determine96@reddit
They just carry the name.
We have VMRO in Bulgaria also as a party.
I mean they claim continuity with the historical VMRO, but they aren't the same.
(Not sure if they don't have some of the material inheritance. I think they do)
petrop36@reddit
Well they are correct of accusing BG of abusing their veto just like Greece did.
Strange_Status_7690@reddit (OP)
By stealing Greek history back then?
And currently there is no veto in power since 2022.
petrop36@reddit
How can you steal history?
crivycouriac@reddit
Has they remained Bulgarian, they would’ve long been in

Hey don't say that, after the breakup of Yugoslavia in 1991, they suddenly became descendants of Alexander!

Yeah, when you think about it, why they didn't have such propaganda during Yugoslavia. If they had solid proof (as they claim today) and all that, then this would've been widely known even back in the 1960s, or so.
Solid-Scarcity-236@reddit
We are not Bulgarians so we can't remain such.
No-Championship-4632@reddit
I think nothing.
roctac@reddit
Hardly ever think about NM.
PasicT@reddit
They should focus on improving the living standards of their own citizens before they blame anyone. Either way, they aren't joining the EU anytime soon, same for every other Balkan country except maybe Montenegro.
RegionSignificant977@reddit
I can bet that current government there doesn't want the reforms that are needed for EU membership and uses the opportunity to blame someone else. Even candidate status might have some positive effect for people in Macedonia. But not for people in power.
PasicT@reddit
Candidate status has zero effect.
RegionSignificant977@reddit
Those "chapters" are infact legislative changes. Which have huge effect on everyday life. Consumer protection is one of the things that affects the people.
blazomkd@reddit
We have nothing really to provide to the EU, if we had something they have use we would be in the union long time ago.
Strange_Status_7690@reddit (OP)
This is a good answer, but what about Albania and Montenegro being set to join?
blazomkd@reddit
They have beaches for EU pensioners to vacation to at least.
RegionSignificant977@reddit
EU pensioners can go to vacation even now. There is barely any difference if they travel to EU Greece or Albania. You have corridor 8 and 10 passing through your country. Every truck spends hours at the borders. Some people spend half of their working time waiting at borders.
shortEverything_@reddit
It’s geopolitics too - the Mediterranean coast has been one of the most contested zones of control in history
Even if there is no direct interest it’s about cutting Russian influence
Strange_Status_7690@reddit (OP)
I mean it's a funny way to say the truth.
AbbreviationsOk1999@reddit
Typical Bulgarian saturday-noon fictional problems. Can we switch the topic to the Bulgarian pro-russian Radev?
Strange_Status_7690@reddit (OP)
This topic is about N.Macedonia which is a candidate country. As I am aware candidate countries cannot dictate conditions for their own progress.
Careless-Walrus2568@reddit
As I am aware countries cannot even get accepted into the EU without fulfilling all conditions. However Bulgaria did exactly that.
So while many things are not possible it is a matter of negoatiation what a country can and cannot do.
Strange_Status_7690@reddit (OP)
Countries that have disputes cannot join the EU. Bulgaria had no disputes and was a clear country once it fulfill the negotiations. Skopje has had tons of disputes and is refusing to start the basic process, so EU is not accepting disputes inside.
dwartbg9@reddit
That's actually perfectly explained!
StudySpecial@reddit
wrong tactic .. you're supposed to blame all your problems on the EU AFTER joining, not beforehand
LenaLena93@reddit
Nothing any other candidate country has done before.
Serious-Ad-5275@reddit
Nothing lol
Justanotherbastard2@reddit
Very sad ☹️
