Clearly you nailed it, our entire plan to exterminate the turkish population with EU funds has been unveiledđ°! Please reconsider the dropping of the candidacy else our whole plan for reclaiming the Byzantine empire is moot...
An Australian Greek opened a flag saying âOrthodoxy or Deathâ in Hagia Sophia and got arrested. Similar slogan you wiped us out by murdering hundreds in Mora.
dude it doesnt mean it is true for all greeks if only a few of them did something like that. there are turks who chants about killing the greeks also. every nation has a rotten apple.
First of all, I dont think anyone should take these kinds of things seriously but let me address even these people. I dont claim to know for sure what they meant but my guess is orthodoxy or death is a play on the greek revolutionary slogan "freedom or death", suffice to say its not about turks, in fact the full phrase is "give US freedom or give us death". Following the same pattern that would mean that their own lives are not worth living without orthodoxy, not yours and its not a call for massacre.
At any rate, saying that any modern greek or cypriot goverment ( or even any serious % of the population) awaits the opportunity to set up turkish extermination camps or whatever genocide you feel is coming your way, is beyond delusional on so many levels
we are not pursuing anything here. One Turkish singer Isin Karaca I think have banned from Greece declared "Persona non Grata". Reason was simple and I TOTALLY AGREE that she sung Izmir March in Komontini (Gumulcine). Suffice to say that march is about Greeks especially the invasion force that came to Anatolia after WW1. Does it make sense to offend by a march? No. Does it holds good memories for Greeks? Also no. Similar thing here. Such actions are creating scrunity between the people and yes more we see it more we got divided.
To original comment that saying "Oooooh Turkey cannot get into the EU without giving Cyprus back.". IT WAS THIS ATTITUDE CREATED THE ERDOGAN IN THE FIRTS PLACE!
There was a time we weren't even celebrating 1453. There was a time when 24th of April coming we went silence because we thought underestanding each other will solve a lot of issues. We thought EU was on our side but all we got was being looked down upon. EU was pro PKK not pro Turkey! I remmember those days I was a child. Turkish armed forces used to declare that they caught a terrorist who murdered x amount of soldier or commited arson etc.. Next day EU used to condemn Turkey.
ERDOGAN USED THAT. He fueled your arrogance. He fueled people with nationalism. He used this so well some people went crazy.
YOUNG PEOPLE EVEN S-ICIDED!
Now please after all of that at least be a good enemy. You failed to be a good ally. Accept it you all hate us just say it. No shame in it. This is what you were. It is in your system. Go for it at least don't tell me you didn't created Erdogan for nothing!
I'm curious among the candidates: who wants it the most? Turkey doesn't seem to want it and neither does Serbia (?). Not sure of the others. Which of this countries has the highest pro-EU sentiment and pro-EU government?
Serbia is kind of in a limbo right now. We'll see if the majority wants it after the next round of elections. The anti-EU propaganda was strong here in one way or another the past few years, and we need a cool-down period for people to actually consider this, hopefully with free media that actually covers the benefits of joining, and the potential drawbacks.
Right now, the "anti-EU" camp is one part "they bombed us and stole Kosovo" (nationalists and uneducated people) and one part "they support VuÄiÄ and want to steal lithium" (simply uneducated and emotionally charged). With some normal media coverage, this will crystalize.
Honestly no country should be wanting to join the eu, the second you do youâll just get dumped with migrants like what is happening in the west. Half of your population being indians isnt all its cracked up to be.
Don't worry, immigrants in the EU don't stay in poor countries since they have freedom of movement through Schengen. They're all coming to Western Europe, you have nothing to worry little guy
Absolutely, but immigrants still mostly choose Western European countries because of Schengen. A lot of immigrants don't even stay in Southern Europe, going north to Germany/France/Sweden/the Netherlands/Austria... they very rarely stay in the East. Ukrainians are the exception, though about a million still moved to Germany.
Alps are generally a natural border. However yes and not only Hungary. Never the less, It's parts of Austria, Hungary, Romania, Moldova and part of Ukraine included.
As a Turk I think having a Balkan Union is more beneficial for the region than being in European Union.
Otherwise all balkan countries will lose their young population and their economical independence to the leading EU countries like Germany and France.
One politician from North Macedonia claimed that there was a proposal for solving the name dispute back in the 2000s for the country to be called Central Balkan Republic.
Had this come from a slovene or other chill people itâd be okay but coming from the world champions of robbers i have to say it takes some gut,let me also remind you 1% of people donât represent the remaining 99%
Dont get me wrong Romania entering the EU was terible mistake for the EU also.
But at least when it comes to gun violance, we dont really have a problem with that, unlike Albania where you can mind your business and be randomly shot with a Kalashnikov or many other guns.
https://www.politico.eu/article/the-european-nation-with-a-deadlier-gun-culture-than-the-us-albania/
If Albania wants into EU then they should bring down the gun death rate cuz they are fcking first in Europe when it comes to that.
https://www.statista.com/statistics/1465188/europe-homicide-rate-firearms-country/?srsltid=AfmBOop-J5dKunrHou7Vqn9AdJlxlmjA2sg83X1btuNEYrgqg7KJ2Qxw
unlike Albania where you can mind your business and be randomly shot with a Kalashnikov or many other guns.
Absolute nonsense of someone whoâs never been to albania and thinks some articles on the internet make up for itâŠ
In albania especially if you mind your own business youâll be absolutely fine,itâs criminals that shoot each other but theyâre very direct and precise killings ,not gun shooting in the open and no innocent people are caught up in this
Yeah sure budy,im sure that the statistics are fake or something, also if Albania is so great why don't you live there?
You know i can see you are not living in Albania,no?
You canât see shit ,but anyway even if i donât live in albania all year ,i go frequently there, afterall itâs just 1 hour of plane ride
I know reading is hard ,but i wrote âmy cityâ because itâs the city where iâm from which is Tirana ,not because i actively live there and i also follow the local news
Now ,to the statistic ,assuming 0.9 per 100k stat is true it still doesnât mean shit, why?
Because albania only has 2.4m inhabitants (even less probably),and if you know something about statistics youâll know that the smaller a population is the more the stats become blown out of proportion
0.9 per 100k means -> ~22 total killings is that a lot?
No,itâs not and here comes down your sand castle
The killings are by firearm, very important, because you can kill with a knife too but that isnât a firearm ,in the country i live in itâs 0.2 but cold weapon killings are way more common
Well yeah Itally tends to have better gun laws than Albania, and the knife culture its just a cultural thing of the doctors and engineers.
I know friends that know from Albanians how bad the gun problem is there.
And also the capital of a country should always look better than the rest of the cities so its normal if it is as you say about it.
Ultimately, you can say all you want the stats show that Albania needs to improve by alot just to be able to join the EU
What did i do wrong they first said that im romanian, im defending myself i didnt break any rules,i just said that based on statistics, and if i did the others did also.
I don't think Serbia or Kosovo will be anytime soon, nor north macedonia, Albania seems to the the nearest to the goal post, I don't think Turkey is all that's interested anymore.

Albania with Italy support. I don't know what they would need to change for laws and economy.
North Macedonia, I mean they already changed the name so Greeks will not oppose.
Kosovo does not even have a chance since some EU members don't recognize it.

Turkey does not want it anymore and they have already many deals to be ok on it's own.

This is an official statement. As of March 2026, based on the current situation, these remaining six criteria primarily cover the following areas:
Fundamental Rights: Protection of fundamental rights and freedoms; prohibition of discrimination.
Judicial Cooperation: Protection of personal data and judicial cooperation with the EU.
Readmission: Criteria regarding the readmission of irregular migrants.
Anti-Corruption: Taking the necessary steps to combat corruption.
Once these conditions are met, the goal is to complete the visa waiver process.

Albania and Macedonia. The others I think impossible in a reasonably short term, and turkey never.

I think the time of EU growing are over, it will only shrink from now on

Turkey should drop the candidacy. European Cyprus and Greece genocided us and Europe approved. Clearly Europeans want to genocide us
Failed_General@reddit
Clearly you nailed it, our entire plan to exterminate the turkish population with EU funds has been unveiledđ°! Please reconsider the dropping of the candidacy else our whole plan for reclaiming the Byzantine empire is moot...
Comfortable_Bath5986@reddit
An Australian Greek opened a flag saying âOrthodoxy or Deathâ in Hagia Sophia and got arrested. Similar slogan you wiped us out by murdering hundreds in Mora.
Straight-Room-1111@reddit
dude it doesnt mean it is true for all greeks if only a few of them did something like that. there are turks who chants about killing the greeks also. every nation has a rotten apple.
Comfortable_Bath5986@reddit
I am trying to make them see it in that way.
Failed_General@reddit
Comfortable_Bath5986@reddit
we are not pursuing anything here.

Nasethz@reddit

Familiar-Weather5196@reddit
Don't worry, immigrants in the EU don't stay in poor countries since they have freedom of movement through Schengen. They're all coming to Western Europe, you have nothing to worry little guy
LifeAcanthopterygii6@reddit

Beautiful-Dish-6275@reddit
The things is that we arent really poor countries compared to like 85% of the world.
Like, the gap between India and eastern Europe is waaay larger than the one between east and west Europe.
Familiar-Weather5196@reddit
Absolutely, but immigrants still mostly choose Western European countries because of Schengen. A lot of immigrants don't even stay in Southern Europe, going north to Germany/France/Sweden/the Netherlands/Austria... they very rarely stay in the East. Ukrainians are the exception, though about a million still moved to Germany.
Jermajestyandtony@reddit
I mean its already happening not only in non eu states but everywhere but go off little man

As a Turk I think having a Balkan Union is more beneficial for the region than being in European Union. Otherwise all balkan countries will lose their young population and their economical independence to the leading EU countries like Germany and France.
And they will be more vulnerable against Russia.

In the Balkans? Albania.

Blue7K@reddit
Dont get me wrong Romania entering the EU was terible mistake for the EU also. But at least when it comes to gun violance, we dont really have a problem with that, unlike Albania where you can mind your business and be randomly shot with a Kalashnikov or many other guns. https://www.politico.eu/article/the-european-nation-with-a-deadlier-gun-culture-than-the-us-albania/ If Albania wants into EU then they should bring down the gun death rate cuz they are fcking first in Europe when it comes to that. https://www.statista.com/statistics/1465188/europe-homicide-rate-firearms-country/?srsltid=AfmBOop-J5dKunrHou7Vqn9AdJlxlmjA2sg83X1btuNEYrgqg7KJ2Qxw
lolzimcoolwow@reddit
Absolute nonsense of someone whoâs never been to albania and thinks some articles on the internet make up for itâŠ
In albania especially if you mind your own business youâll be absolutely fine,itâs criminals that shoot each other but theyâre very direct and precise killings ,not gun shooting in the open and no innocent people are caught up in this
Blue7K@reddit
Yeah sure budy,im sure that the statistics are fake or something, also if Albania is so great why don't you live there? You know i can see you are not living in Albania,no?
lolzimcoolwow@reddit
0.9 per 100k means -> ~22 total killings is that a lot? No,itâs not and here comes down your sand castle
The killings are by firearm, very important, because you can kill with a knife too but that isnât a firearm ,in the country i live in itâs 0.2 but cold weapon killings are way more common
Blue7K@reddit
Well yeah Itally tends to have better gun laws than Albania, and the knife culture its just a cultural thing of the doctors and engineers. I know friends that know from Albanians how bad the gun problem is there. And also the capital of a country should always look better than the rest of the cities so its normal if it is as you say about it. Ultimately, you can say all you want the stats show that Albania needs to improve by alot just to be able to join the EU
