He'd get a better sight picture if he was hip shooting.
Internet_Troll14@reddit
Carry handle is necessary when you want to carry the gun by the carrying handle.
MuffnMan88@reddit
Funny how in boot we'd get yelled at for using them as such
Probably a safety thing
Internet_Troll14@reddit
I mean if you carry the rifle like a suitcase then the barrel will be pointing at everything and everyone.
MuffnMan88@reddit
Especially when we're talking about fresh recruits lol
Any lil precaution counts

Time isn’t a straight line, it’s more a ball of wibbly wobbly timey wimey stuff
CaptainShaboigen@reddit
Man you could have stopped at time is a flat circle ⭕️
IknowKarazy@reddit
That’s a hilarious thought. I don’t own an AR but it is kinda funny that folks would pay money for a riser when the original design has one built in.
Dalek_Chaos@reddit
Kiwi_Doodle@reddit
Just use it as a foregrip
RainThick@reddit
2 hit me like a ton of bricks. Never considered that. You’re so right.
bageltre@reddit
The point of risers is to fit night vision behind it
Carry handles prevent that
theDudeUh@reddit
Yes that is the actual point of a high riser but 99% of people rocking high risers will never touch a pair of nods in their lifetime.
ecodick@reddit
I have found I can work with a higher optic on something very cramped, like a sub gun, but on actual rifles, lower 1/3 height, right in that 1.6-1.7 range is really as high as I want to go. Good stock contact helps with control
(No NODs 😥)
theDudeUh@reddit
If you look closely most popular risers these days are pretty much the same height as a carry handle.
SubstantialFly3316@reddit
An optic on a carry handle = dAt HeIgHt OvEr BoRe
An optic on a brand name riser = sweet operator style
Rockfish00@reddit
That and other weird criticisms that youtubers had about the springfield hellion are what led me to believe that nobody who reviews guns actually likes anything other than their match grade and modified AR-15 and if they are contrarian AKM.
Gpsk64@reddit
I fucking love my hellion, and got the same impression from the youtubers while watching reviews about it
sbd104@reddit
I’ve smoked the fuck out of no shoots with carry handle optics. Absolutely hilarious, Ive also had to drop to irons to use a Vtac barricade.
Consistent-Plane7227@reddit
A carry handle looks like it belongs on an blaster. The hydra riser looks like the two headed pod racer announcer Fodesinbeed Annodue
JunkbaII@reddit
Plus it’s from the most cucked of mfgs. Don’t know why anyone would willfully support GBRS
citizen-salty@reddit
Now this is podracing.
sbd104@reddit
It is not peak riser.
It gets in the way of night vision.
Internet_Troll14@reddit
what about height over bore?
Turgzie@reddit
Don't know about you but I'd take the compromise of having to learn to hold over and being able to aim with an essential piece of equipment over having less holdovers and literally not being able to use an essential piece of equipment.
Charlie3OriginalG@reddit
Myth created by Big Bore

"...time is a piece of wax falling on a termite, That's choking on the splinters"
Spaztor@reddit
Yeah they're old enough to be iconic and yeah they always looked cool
Pandaisblue@reddit
I think 1 and 3 is probably carrying (ha) most of the weight here. It's a super iconic outline and it's come back around to being a cool old-school look.

"Time isn't made out of lines. It is made out of circles. That is why clocks are round" -Michael J. Caboose.
MFOslave@reddit
I always thought it was hilarious when risers got to the height of carry handles. Plus if you have a see through mount, built in buis and no need for offset sights. Plus carry handles imo mean non budget build.

Mae_Day_of_Sharkadia@reddit
I guess this is mostly coming from a gal who doesn't own any, but I never stopped liking carry handles.
Nailtrail@reddit
It's originally not even a carry handle anyway, so we could say it has evolved to provide yet another function

Chernov_08@reddit
I loved it ever since Black Hawk Down came out
Wankel_8@reddit
Perhaps one reason is that it's much cheaper than buying an optics riser, and the height of the carrying handle is optimal when you wear NODS.
WVGunsNGoats@reddit
I remember the time period you basically had to give away, or throw away an A1 or A2 upper because it didn't have a rail on it, nobody wanted them.
UtgaardLoki@reddit
Nostalgia
Also, ultra-high optic mounts.
TacTyger@reddit
Cheap riser 😂

Back up irons, built in riser
intrusivesurgery@reddit
Most of all there's something that makes it cool as shit
reamesyy82@reddit
I think a lot of that stems from super “cool guy” groups like MACV SOG and Delta rocking carry handles.
reconninja@reddit
It takes about thirty years for something outdated to become retro and cool again
SixGunJohnny@reddit
Ah sweet, only 10 more years until I'm cool again.
Sweet-Tomatillo-9010@reddit
Trust when you hit your 30s you'll be in good shape
brandoldme@reddit
I'm 48. I'm in a physically better place than I was anytime in the last 20 years. It was a choice to get up off my fat ass and start working out. I don't even work out with weights. I might start adding some. It's all calisthenics, physical therapy based exercises, resistance bands, walking, and hiking.
Sweet-Tomatillo-9010@reddit
I was more indicating that one is more sure of themselves and usually more financially settled. Sprinkle in a little bit of experience and a tad of wisdom, and the 30s end up being better than the 20s

And back and hands…
IknowKarazy@reddit
My 16 year old niece asked me what it was like being old and uncool. I told her i was NEVER cool so I really didn’t lose much.
tN8KqMjL@reddit
Right. People who were children in the late 80's and the 90's are now adults entering middle age who have disposable income that have an interest in the aesthetics of their youth.
The carry handle M4 rifle with more modern attachments is a very specific type of transition between the classic M16 and more modern flat-top rifles that is very specifically placed in time and remembered fondly by people in their 30's.
dotmatrixman@reddit
Still banking on the UCP pattern becoming cool again. I have hundreds.
JbooGoesPewPew@reddit
People wanted to make clones. People will watch something like Administrative Results CAR-15 video and want to make a build for themselves
nuggents1313@reddit
There was a youtube video by the channel "Hop" talking about weight where he said that retro rifles became popular because people put too much weight on their duty rifles and retro rifles that are usually lighter are more fun to shoot.
No-Bother6856@reddit
"Usually lighter"
laughs in M16A4
ScalierLotus11@reddit
Look good, has integrated irons in them, great risers, comfrotable carrying when out of combat
SebWeg@reddit
Because they wanted Hydra hight without buying one!? 🤷🏻♂️
Mounting optics to a carry handle is definitely not the sturdiest mounting system.
_That_Guy_in_AZ_@reddit
They like the look, they like the sight height, it's sometimes cheaper, easier, and lighter in weight than to get a flattop and a mount. Who cares though? Let them like what they like even if you or I do not.
pizzaguy4378@reddit
Why have we stopped?
Troy_stoic@reddit
Return to monke. But serious note everyone chasing higher optic height that the carry handle is perfect. But in the end, it just looks cool.
Jayson330@reddit
ARs remove carry hanldles.
Everyone needs BUIs now.
BUIs mean you need QR mounts for optics or offset angled sights.
People realize that carry handle irons are integrated BUIs that don't need any time at all to be deployed and use.
People RETVRN to carry handle peak performance.
tykaboom@reddit
Well I for one have been meaning to build a really nice carry handle upper for a long time. I can't be alone, now that they are available, I would bet that a lot of guys who have heen meaning to do the same have been doing so.
I have a no for a wife, so I'm in the doghouse for any purchase over $300 these days.
highvelocitypeasoup@reddit
Theres a reverse bell curve of old vs cool. When a thing is the new hotness everyone wants it. Then it becomes old and boring when the next new hotness comes out. Then when the guys who were kids when that thing was the new hotness grow up they want the thing that was in their childhood pop culture so it becomes cool again.
RevoTravo@reddit
Fun Fact: A reverse bell curve is also just a bell curve with the axes labeled differently.

Phenom-CJ4_pilot@reddit
Carry handles are based!
Nomand55@reddit
I think it's overexposure to the new hotness and people get a taste for retro cool stuff
CannonFodder58@reddit
I had the opportunity to shoot a real M16A2 a few years ago and was inspired to do my first retro build. The availability of parts really helped.
treecutter34@reddit
It’s retro. Pretty soon our kids will be dressing like we did in high school.
ZeltbahnLife@reddit
Depends on the years you were in high school, a lot of the 80s fashion has come back around (I’m all for it even though it was before my time), largely thanks to Stranger Things and CoVid.
treecutter34@reddit
I was in high school in the 2000’s. I’m seeing the ladies wearing wide legged baggy pants now. The guys used to wear those in my day.
ZeltbahnLife@reddit
It’s funny, funny how things come back around. I like loose/relaxed fitting pants, but some of that 90s/2000s stuff was crazy.
Lucratif6@reddit
Embrace tradition, reject modernity
WalkerTR-17@reddit
Civ side because nostalgia. Mil/LE side they didn’t
PaperOrPlastic97@reddit
Suddenly? I always thought they were sexy.
tipsyBerbVerb@reddit
I mean I run a carry handle on mine both cuz I’m trying to having my AR resemble an M16a3 and because I think they’re neat!
thunder8653@reddit
The natural riser for optics. Its classic
Turgzie@reddit
It acts as a riser for night vision aiming.
MlackBesa@reddit
Man this picture goes insanely hard, I’m not even mad at the cheapo airsoft holster. Where is this from? Dude definitely looks like he’d rock something more modern if he could, but god damnit does he look cool
Captain_Morgan33@reddit
That’s a Greek SF soldier
MlackBesa@reddit
Thank you!
MADunn83@reddit
We never stopped liking them.
JunkbaII@reddit
What’s old is new
joku75@reddit
I've always loved it and A2 front sight post. It's just that classic AR look. The modern style with flat tops, FF handguards and no front sight post makes the whole rifle look boring and generic.
Ponenous@reddit
I have always liked ar carry handles
CarlTJexican@reddit
I always have, most people always have, it's a decent iron sight.
Captain_Morgan33@reddit
In this case it’s just that Greece has a big stock of old M4s which have a fixed carry handle. They are often modified with different hand guards stocks and optics but they can’t really get rid of the fixed carry handle and FSB. Some units have meanwhile received newer flat top M4s from DD.
Sonny8083@reddit
Gen z likes retro again, same reason why gen z wears baggy clothes again.
RTNE1968@reddit
That M1911A1 too
taucco@reddit
I love Greek Army. Cool camouflage and small budget Is a winning aesthetic combination.
SkrallTheRoamer@reddit
vibes
VallettaAwoo@reddit
its sexy
Theo_Stormchaser@reddit
Free riser. Also because it’s a classic look.
Verdha603@reddit
Because some people like their muskets that make M193 able to punch through plates out of a 20 inch barrel. With irons while ‘Runnin Through the Jungle’ is playing in the background.
SamanthaSissyWife@reddit
Thousands and thousands of people never stopped liking carry handles
btjk@reddit
Ever seen a FAMAS without it's carry handle?! Like I'm looking at a naked mole rat. Them thangs got rep.
ThundahMuffin@reddit
The famas just looks lime a naked mole rat brother
The_Demolition_Man@reddit
I just missed all the times sergeant major used to yell at me for using it
senorsmartpantalones@reddit
Hydra risers....then people remembered we have Hydra risers at home.
SaltRequirement3650@reddit
They just evolved from nothing to back to almost nothing. Classic.
Ok-Map9827@reddit
The internet told them to, and nobody can think for themselves anymore.
JustSomeGuyMedia@reddit
Carry handles have hit the point of being cool and old instead of just old. The fact they’re as tall as some of the tall risers helps some.
CerealATA@reddit
Carry handle on short-length AR will always look funny and awkward to me lol.
tactical_horse_cock@reddit
Shits hard
midlife_dadpulse73@reddit
I've only ever wanted Carry handle AR'S. I built a few flat tops, only own 1 now...but have 6 A1/A2 AR'S.
Its as the man himself intended, Stoner was no fool, he knew what up!😁
