What the trick to cleaning mirrors?

Let's say I don't have water and soap. I use this Sprayway glass cleaner + mf towel and I still end up with this a day later. Always looks good for the day and the next one is shit.
Adventurous_Issue155@reddit
If you use regular cleaner no ammonia in a cool place or can spray cleaner just not in a hot place but after use water for a rinse.
scottiethegoonie@reddit (OP)
I'm thinking my issue is that it's always hot when I get the truck. Impossible to deal with streaks when it's hot.
tc6x6@reddit
Streaks are caused by a dirty towel, or by water being left over after the wipe. That's why you use paper towels or newspaper, and a water-free glass cleaner like rubbing alcohol or ammonia (the kind that does NOT foam when you shake the bottle).
bruhmoment67823@reddit
I’ve always used rain ex on my windows and mirrors. fold a micro fiber into a square one side you spray with the rain x go up and down on the glass, then flip to the dry side and wipe side to side. clean it perfectly every time plus now you have a little layer of wax. i’ve never wanted to use anything else
Dropnhook@reddit
I use dawn dish soap on all glass squeegee it then mirrors hit with microfiber cloth Yes I always have that in my truck do the same as mirror on inside windshield… I drive at night drives me crazy if it’s not clean
rdmcrd@reddit
There’s nothing like simply having one of those .99 dishwasher soap in you door pocket. Just drop a line on the squeegee and wash it off. Having a .99 spray bottle with water next to it solves all of that with the windshield together, at any rest stop or wherever you feel like.
droptozro@reddit
I usually just use dry blue paper towels. Cleans best for me since most of it's is just dried dirt on the windows and mirrors.
Small_Claim_3593@reddit
Sprayway and newspaper for the best clean
0riginalGamR@reddit
Newspaper
John9250@reddit
Usually I can just wipe them down with a paper towel. But after a wash, I like to put RainX on my mirrors and windows. I’ve never used this Sprayway so idk about that
ConfectionOk201@reddit
Sprayway glass cleaner and paper towels.
Tennesseahawk@reddit
Best way. Sprayway > any other glass cleaner
Wreckage365@reddit
For absolutely flawless mirrors, yes paper towels and sprayway—but for the absolutely flawless part, after cleaning, get a second dry paper towel and wipe again.
dd961984@reddit
Spray with cleaner and paper towel
deezkeys098@reddit
The real paper towels bounty don’t get the cheap knockoff stuff
MssMoodi@reddit
Or you can steal them from a truck stop outside, they're free. Lol
scottiethegoonie@reddit (OP)
I was avoiding paper towels bc it's basically a very fine sandpaper on surfaces. I know it ruins paint, don't want to scratch up this brand new mirror.
ConfectionOk201@reddit
I don't know what kind of paper towels you get but I've never scratched a mirror or glass with one.
Mechanik_J@reddit
The brown paper towels have always scratched mine up.
DblDtchRddr@reddit
Use normal person paper towels. Or, if you want to get fancy, get a roll of the blue "shop" paper towels.
But dude, paper towels aren't hard enough to scratch glass. If you're scratching mirrors while cleaning them, you've got some shit on your paper towels doing the scratching.
spaceS4tan@reddit
They will scratch glass but it shouldn't be enough to matter for a mirror. It's only really worth worrying about for optical glass.
Ohiolongboard@reddit
Look up the “Mohs hardness scale”. No they will not scratch glass.
spaceS4tan@reddit
I'm sure that's great in the universe where mills are very carefully cleaning their pulp logs to remove any possible debris and paper towels are made to lab purity standards.
Ohiolongboard@reddit
I have a telescope, three actually, and telescopes have big ass lenses that zoom in on scratches and make the image blurry. So do cameras. Your truck mirror is fine, princess
spaceS4tan@reddit
No shit dude are you illiterate
HM02_High@reddit
Target sells a brand called viva or some shit, I swear by those. They are the best paper towel for cleaning, very much like the blue shop ones, but a little thicker and more absorbent
ImmortalEmos@reddit
I prefer to use shop towels for almost everything. Only thing I don't use them for is in the house
Egraypgh@reddit
When I was in high school, we called that shit “John Wayne” due to its level of toughness and abrasive feel. If you forgot your towel for gym class after your shower, you got to deal with John Wayne.
scottiethegoonie@reddit (OP)
Real mirrors don't scratch with paper towels. The cheap replacement "mirrors" with a crappy coating do scratch.
RandomMansThoughts@reddit
If you're in dusty, dirty environments the glass is gonna get scratched regardless. I spray mine down with flaming glass cleaner and spray the paper towel, it still gets scratched. I deliver construction equipment and im constantly cleaning my mirrors.
Physicballs1655@reddit
Mirrors are not paint. You would have to dip your paper towel in sand to scratch the glass. News paper is actually the best for cleaning glass if you’re using glass cleaner. It looks like your mf towel has some oily residue on it and created those streaks or you didn’t dry it enough.
Ornery_Ads@reddit
Go to the grocery store and buy...basically anything? I like Bounty because they are pretty sturdy but...basically anything will work. Maybe not the brown recycled paper stuff you get in bathrooms, but anything not commercial oriented is fine.
FortuneMurky19@reddit
The statement hurts my brain. "Very fine sandpaper" as you called it is used to rejuvenate and clean many things. You clearly think sandpaper is only 80 grit to sand wood.
scottiethegoonie@reddit (OP)
Huh? I clearly think sandpaper is only 80 grit to sand wood?? What does this mean?
Paper towel is a mild abrasive. I'm taking 5000+ grit but it puts small scratches in surfaces.
----Richard----@reddit
Micro-abrasions are only really a problem on eye glasses. It shouldn't be enough to cause an issue on windows & mirrors pretty much ever.
ghostedbydefault@reddit
I've had this happen on occasion back when I first started driving. I use a wipe to take the dirt and grime (abrasive debris) off, and then use invisible glass cleaner and a blue shop towel. Seems to work alot better. Other thing I use primarily is a squeegee at the fuel pumps
Apmaddock@reddit
Don’t tell him how they polish mirrors. He won’t be able to handle it.
TigerBlood1991@reddit
Holy shit are you new to cleaning??? Wtf lol
flatdecktrucker92@reddit
Paper towels scratch plexiglass and clear plastic, not real glass
DaRealMexicanTrucker@reddit
Lol ok fine. Use Microfiber towels then.
Captain_Wag@reddit
Most people just use the paper towels. I've never noticed any scratches when I use them. The mirror just looks cleaner. If you really want to be extra you could get some microfiber cloths.
drama__@reddit
I just use the squeegees at the pump and they look fine
firemarshalbill316@reddit
I use regular sanitation wipes. Wait for it to start to dry then use a dry paper towel to wipe off the filmy look.
It works extremely well. I do this maybe one per week.
Willing-Sympathy-112@reddit
Get yourself a can of Liquid Glass. That's what I use. Cleans mirrors with no streaks.
Vast-Yak-8713@reddit
Potatoes. Raw potatoes. Cut in half. Rub them on mirrors and windshields. No more problems.
scottiethegoonie@reddit (OP)
What?
Vast-Yak-8713@reddit
You’re …what’s the word….sheepish.
Vast-Yak-8713@reddit
Yeah you talked shit but now you’re ashamed, right?
dkingsjr@reddit
Don't get them dirty in the first place... Works 100% of the time.
Round-Guarantee4948@reddit
I always use RainX cleaner/repellant. Came through a nasty snow squall this morning in Western Montana, didn't have time use the wipers at all and the aide mirrors stayed clean and visible. I also carry my fold out tire step to hop up safely to clean the windows.
Lopsided_Delivery_93@reddit
Dose rainX really help with mirrors and are there any downsides? Like once it starts to wear off.
Round-Guarantee4948@reddit
Nope...after a good rain, I just reapply if needed
Environmental-Pear40@reddit
Oh, shit, I need to get one of those. I forgot about them.
Klavaxx@reddit
Glass cleaner plus mf towel, another clean mf towel, and then another clean mf towel = clean mirror
TheRiftsplitter@reddit

Spray with glass cleaner, squeegee, wipe away streaks with microfiber towel if needed.
Lopsided_Delivery_93@reddit
I recommend you use a squeegee and spray bottle. See my demonstration https://youtube.com/shorts/8SPeTFT9CPM?si=3EGXdTL2_pv8w3Z6
howla456@reddit
Regularly. I just use metho and a normal rag then a microfibre cloth
ImJustHereToSearch@reddit
Pour your piss bottles on them once a week and it creates a great coating that keeps them shining.
forkystabbyveggie@reddit
Wtf?
No, it dries on then starts to crack.
Environmental-Pear40@reddit
Got to use piss with less sugar in it. Otherwise it forms a syrup.
furnacemike@reddit
Ah yes. Caramelized piss.
MarmotWorldOrder@reddit
You need to outsource your piss collection.
TomAterski@reddit
Stoner window cleaner and microfiber towel works for me
Imaginary-Badger-119@reddit
Windex.. spray bottle
Sullen_One@reddit
I use sprayway one microfiber to wipe down & and then another one to wipe residue
Aggravating_Inside23@reddit
Rags..... cleans rags.... that's it....
n0funeral@reddit
dry paper towel, rub it off. you're using too much cleaner and it's leaving a residue
Clear-Sport4461@reddit
Newspaper works real good
SchityCityGangBang@reddit
The squeegee at loves works fine for me.
walahiwalardo@reddit
I use windshield washer fluid and paper towels and it works great for me and my truck has heated mirrors so that also helps sometimes.
Baconated-Coffee@reddit
Any type of liquid polishing compound meant for the paint that you can find in an auto store. Buff it in, let it dry for a few minutes, then use a clean rag to wipe it off. It'll have your mirrors looking better than they were at the factory and it'll leave a smooth surface that'll help to prevent dirt build up in the future. Water will bead right off in the rain. Do it at least once a week and the rest of the time you'll be able to clean them with a dry rag.
9inchpapii@reddit
News paper.. youre welcome.

iipok@reddit
Nothing beats Newspaper for wiping use whatever cleaner you like.
Thegrandestpoo@reddit
I’ve been using my own glass cleaner for a couple years. It’s a white vinegar mix with 99% isopropyl alcohol with a little distilled water . It’s the best I found. It doesn’t streak, and can be used as a deicer.
norseprincesspdx@reddit
I always just took a dry rag and scrubbed ..avoid using the window cleaners at the truck stops cause dipshits love to set them down touching the oily ass ground by the fuel pumps..sets me off!
Riiakess@reddit
I just get some window washing fluid on a paper towel when I'm getting fuel and polish all the mirrors, drying them as I go. This looks like something oily was rubbed into them at some point, so you're fighting that residue. Did anyone put Rainex on them at some point? That's what this looks like. Might need to do a dish soap wash to reset them, then only use window washing fluid. My mirrors never have an issue with that. If it rains, I dry them off once I get past the rain, easy peasy. I keep indoor window cleaner on hand for emergencies, but I might only need that once a month.
absent-chaos@reddit
Dawn and water in a spray bottle and a trukr stik squeegee (designed to wipe off the mirrors) that I got at pilot
I also spray it on my windshield before scrubbing it at stops and it disintegrates the dried bugs
Codexe-@reddit
i use the windshield squeegee
DonTostada_@reddit
Glass cleaner + paper towel then a microfiber cloth with some elbow grease to make that fogness go away
Content-Boss9530@reddit
Water and a cloth. No soap needed.
Or you can do like me. Steam clean them and put a ceramic coat on.
maddpsyintyst@reddit
Put some of that Dawn spray on it for a few minutes, then spray Dawn again and wipe off. Then, rinse, dry with a towel of choice, and you should be back to normal again.
Then, switch to a good glass cleaner, cuz that other stuff seems to be trash as presented. Honestly, Dawn, clean water, and an automotive window scrubber/squeegee wand, will do the job quite well for all of your glass and clear plastic.
freightliner_fever_@reddit
just use paper towels. that’s the trick
AsphaltPirate74@reddit
A little bit of elbow grease works wonders
Ur_Fav_Step-Redditor@reddit
I literally just use a drop of the truck stop bucket water and the paper towels they provide and it’s crystal clear.
Too much of the water on it and you’re fighting to keep drying it bc it gets in the cracks then smears again while you’re wiping
AsphaltPirate74@reddit
Yep! Been through that lol, if I need to I use the bucket too. I hate the smearing and streaks
beavismorpheus@reddit
That's the technique I developed over the years. Papwr towels and only takes a little spritz of windex, then I spend a minute polishing it while viewing it from angles to get all the smudges out.
It's a big safety thing for me that I always do before my shift. Makes it so hard to see anything while changing lanes, driving away from the sun rise or sunset. And I finish by going over where my dash camera is.
Adi3m@reddit
A spray bottle filled with water, a bit of dish soap and some white vinegar. Its does the trick for windows and mirrors. The vinegar cleans wiper blades too!
AsphaltPirate74@reddit
This works too. The elbow grease technique was taught to me by my Drill Instructors and easily takes care of light dust/dirt/film and leaves it looking clean
scottiethegoonie@reddit (OP)
Interesting.
DCHammer69@reddit
This is what I firmly believe about cleaning glass. Maybe use some soap if the glass is really dirty but hen rinse the hell out of it with clear water and dry with a clean towel.
My opinion is that any glass cleaner you use is going to leave a residue and then that residue just attracts stuff.
masher005@reddit
This has to be a troll post. No shot a working adult doesn’t know how to clean a mirror.
Impressive-Menu8966@reddit
The guy that drives my rig overnight has no idea how to clean a mirror or a window.
Environmental-Pear40@reddit
You would be surprised. There's functional working adults that don't know a lot of shit.
NH603guy@reddit
If you use Newspaper instead of paper towels it won’t leave streaks. I have no idea why, but it works.
Efficient_Gur5994@reddit
I use any glass cleaner/ water and elbow grease with newspaper and in circular motion
Free-Big-8709@reddit
Man these guys saying paper towels that’s why all them mirrors end up scratched up. I just spray directly on to my microfiber towel and then wipe and then wipe again on a dry side
Alarming-Inspector86@reddit
Spray wax
Jacktheforkie@reddit
I use windolene and 2 microfibre cloths

The-light-gemini6990@reddit

maddwesty@reddit
Urine is sterile.
BlackberryVarious4@reddit
Go to Walmart and get a shower squeegee. Spray wipe with towel spray again squeegee. Even works on your interior windows.
ProtestedGyro@reddit
Paper towels are a must so you're not spreading shmutz from the towel all around. I was also very partial to Windex with vinegar in it. It really reduced streaks.
ThePolecatProcess@reddit
It kinda looks like someone let cleaning spray dry on the mirror.
Riyeko@reddit
Foam spray. Tiny squeegee.
That's all. Make sure you get a towel or rag and wipe off the squeegee in between swipes.
OldPossibility3611@reddit
Get some Windex. Spray your windshield and let it sit for a good 30 seconds. Turn on your wipers and watch the magic happen… then press the button so that the water can spray while your wipers are in motion and BOOM- your windshield will be streak free and clean.
I do this once a month, as well as clean the inside of my windshield, my side mirrors, and my hood mirrors. I hate when my windshield and mirrors are dirty.
kingsnow18@reddit
I found out that microfiber towels/rag do a better job than paper towels.

Glass cleaner. Spray it on, wipe it off, then go back over it with a dry/unused paper towel/cloth.
Or, use the squeegee from the bucket at the fuel island.
zBaer@reddit
If you want to keep a mirror from scratches then the squeegee at the island is the worst option. People use it to clean the floors and 5th wheel and whatnot

Casperuis495@reddit
+2 on the squeegee. Got one from dollar tree and cut it to size for my mirror. Been using it for almost 2 years, and it still works amazing for $1.50 and a bit of trimming
qaf0v4vc0lj6@reddit
+1 for the squeegee. I used to keep one right in the door. Came in handy when it was raining to clean the mirror.
a116jxb@reddit
This is the way.
Siom_one@reddit

Microfiber towel. A good one, not one of those neon colored ones that you can buy in packs of 20 for like $10. Also, I've been using a simple foaming glass cleaner from Walmart. It works just fine. Two paper towels. One to apply the glass cleaner and spread it around. Then a clean piece of paper towel to wipe off and dry the mirror. Think of it like washing the car with soap, the soap needs to be removed or else it leaves a film. Also, touching the outer edges with the clean paper towel will drag dirt, grease, film, etc. back onto the clean surface.

a dry wipe without cleaner gets rid of the streaks. paper or cloth towel doesn't matter.
I use an industrial foaming glass cleaner my company buys in bulk but the kind shouldn't matter. my cleaning towel is cloth and I keep it folded so one part stays clean and dry.
I wipe once with lots of cleaner to get the most off, a second wipe with a little more cleaner, then unfold and flip my towel and dry rub the mirror to remove the streaks.
