It took 35 years but…

I’ve finally got tickets to see the Violent Femmes later this summer. Now I just need REM to get back together. What are the bands you’re still trying to see?
SteveLivingroomCO@reddit
We saw VF’s a few years back! They rock!
Voivode71@reddit
The Cure for me.
WinterExisting5076@reddit
Saw them in Philly I think it was 1987
blackandbluegirltalk@reddit
Saw them at Voodoo Fest in New Orleans! NIN same night! We miss Voodoo a LOT, it was tremendous.
60PersonDanceCrew@reddit
I finally got to see them their last 2 US tours and they were everything I had hoped. It's some real sorcery that Robert sounds as amazing as ever!
bluealien78@reddit
Saw them in LA a few years ago. Top five all time concert for me. So so good.
OFwant2move@reddit
Police and tom petty Others that would be fun: duran duran and pet shop boys
OFwant2move@reddit
Also - just fun to see the bands listed
Bucks2174@reddit
None. I have no desire to watch a band that are 60+ years old try to sing and play like they did in the 80s.
Dave_Designer4401@reddit
Maybe they’ve still got it. Ex: I saw Mickey Thomas touring as Starship. I wasn’t expecting much. The dude is 77 and can still belt his lungs out. I was gobsmacked. The young woman filling the Grace Slick role was less impressive.
Oiggamed@reddit
RUSH. Not going to happen at those prices.
Wyndorf03@reddit
Rev Horton Heat tomorrow!!!
Key-Cattle-2866@reddit
I saw them a couple of times in the ‘90s. Always a fun show.
Beneficial-You3416@reddit
I saw him like twenty years ago at a very sparsely attended show in Norwich, CT. Where in the hell did you go with my toothbrush? He hit on my sister.
SamHandwich0@reddit
I feel like i would see him every 6 months in the 90's coming through Columbia MO- tickets were something like $8 so my friebds abd i always went. Must have seen him at least a dozen times
Beneficial-You3416@reddit
The Blue Note?
SamHandwich0@reddit
That very one- i was in that place most weekrnds in the mid to late 90s
Beneficial-You3416@reddit
I was there earlier. But I loved Columbia so much!
SamHandwich0@reddit
I have many fond memories.
.25 draws at 9th st deli, booches burgers, great midwestern college town.
GeoHog713@reddit
How the fuck is he still alive?
Wyndorf03@reddit
I absolutley can't wait. Small show in Detroit, def been on the bucket list for a few years...
WinterExisting5076@reddit
Adam Ant
Key-Cattle-2866@reddit
My first concert in 1984 was Adam Ant with The Romantics. I still have the Adam Ant shirt I got at the show.
Complex-Buffalo-183@reddit
Veruca Salt
Key-Cattle-2866@reddit
I saw them in ‘95. They put on a fun show.
butterflygardyn@reddit
I finally saw Squeeze last year. Great concert.
Key-Cattle-2866@reddit
I saw Squeeze with 10,000 Maniacs at The University of Alabama in 1988. They put on a great show.
Hib3rnian@reddit
Seeing the Beastie Boys one last time would have been awesome.
REM again would be cool too.
Have tickets to see Men at Work with Toad the Wet Sprocket in August so really looking forward to that.
Yepitsheather@reddit
I second Beastie Boys. That would be such a good show
AdhesivenessEqual166@reddit
I saw REM several times in college, but the best time was at the 40 Watt club (a small club) in Athens, GA when they were trying out some new songs. It was probably in '85 or '86. I went to school about 45 minutes from Athens.
I had great tickets to see The Smith's, but Morrisey got strep throat or something and cancelled the show. Morrisey is still touring, so maybe I'll get to see him.
la_winky@reddit
Omg! We saw them last fall. It’s was so much fun!!! Better than I had hoped.
Enjoy!!!
GeoHog713@reddit
I hope it's a good show!
I booked for show in college. Decades ago
2nd biggest bunch of assholes I've ever met.
preinternetdad@reddit
Who takes the top spot?
GeoHog713@reddit
Run DMC was worse, but not by a lot.
They were upset because we didn't send 1 limo for each person to drive them from New Orleans to Jackson. They refused to go on, for almost an hour.
I finally told them that was fine, but they weren't getting paid and they could walk there asses back to N.O.
They begrudgingly played. Calling it "half assed" would be generous.
They were also super shitty to student volunteers.
TheJokersChild@reddit
I heard Gordon Gano is not exactly a nice guy.
GeoHog713@reddit
He was not. They were all prima donas - a little too big for their britches.
This would have been like 2001, in Jackson, MS. Not exactly the peak of their career. Gordon, in particular, acted like he was a much bigger deal than he was. He was particularly rude, to student volunteers.
jalapeno1968@reddit
Saw Violent Femmes twice in Hobart in the early 90's...helluva show both times 👍 too many bands to list that I haven't seen but want to 😎
Paperbackpixie@reddit
AC/DC - had tickets 1997ish magazine went to go see them issues and ensued. I got to listen, but didn’t get to see them.
Green Day
I would love to see the Violent Femmes
Dropkick Murphys
InDaFamilyJewels@reddit
Stevie Ray Vaughan, Jeff Buckley, Prince and Tom Petty.
I don’t like my odds.
rekordsrecker@reddit
Toadies/Sparta/Local H are on tour right now and Toadies still kill it, plus they are playing clubs so that’s a huge bonus.
Historical-Ad-1067@reddit
I'd really like to see the Musical Box again. Genesis tribute band. Incredible show
_Brandobaris_@reddit
I saw REM and Violent Femmes on the same night at the 930 in Washington DC in 84/85 (it was 40+ years ago) and I’ve seen the Femmes 111 more times with the last being 2024. A celebration of Hallowed Ground. They played all of Hallowed Ground, intermission, then all of Violent Femmes, intermission, then another 4 songs. It was awesome!
goingloopy@reddit
I saw REM in…2003 ish? Still one of the best shows I’ve ever been to.
Really would love to see the Cure.
I’m also seeing the Violent Femmes in September.
Very sad I never got to see Queen with Freddie Mercury.
I saw Chicago, but it was after Peter Cetera left.
Still would love to see Pearl Jam.
Historical_Project86@reddit
I would definitely go to see them if they come to the UK.
EPCreep@reddit
Faith No More. If only Mike Patton would give us a good farewell tour before he gets bored again.
Bitter-Buyer583@reddit
This is my white whale. I finally got to see Mr. Bungle a few years ago, but I NEED to see FNM someday! I was supposed to see them at Riot Fest, but that was the year they dropped out. I did score the limited edition Mr Bungle Riot Fest poster though. Cold comfort.
EPCreep@reddit
I saw Mr Bungle on their second album tour, they were awesome. I was supposed to see FNM open for GnR and Metallica, but I was 15 and my parents had a friend take me to the concert, and we entirely missed FNM. Sad days.
PoisonMind@reddit
Fantomas live would be something else.
SamHandwich0@reddit
This- i probably bought 8 copies of epic and 6 of angel dust because i kept giving them to friends to listen to and never got them back
Next_Chapter_Now@reddit
WOW! No idea they were still together!!!
drinkslinger1974@reddit
The last time the beastie boys came to my town, nobody would go with me. They were touring on the rock the vote tour with Sheryl Crow. So, I just planned on seeing them the next time they came to town. About a year later, MCA passed. May 4, 2012, RIP MCA.
eyeroll611@reddit
The Police
A_Gray_Old_Man@reddit
I have seen 1000's of live shows. This is the one that kills me.
waderockett@reddit
I’m finally seeing Rush in Los Angeles in June, and am VERY excited.
SamHandwich0@reddit
Im excited for you.
I was able to see the original trio on Clockwork Angels and way back on Chronicles they aged well and didnt lose a step- i hop its and awesome show!
vbtodenver@reddit
Did you see that Michael Stipe has a new album coming out??
Grunge4U@reddit
The first song is not encouraging.
Grunge4U@reddit
Hell yes to R.E.M. There last album proved they still have great music in them, they just lost the passion for touring. IMO they are the greatest band of all time and I hate that they gave up in their 50's.
dafuqizzis@reddit
I think the only band I could see where none of the members have died would be The Talking Heads. I’ve seen David Byrne, and I’ve seen the Heads (with Johnette Napolitano and Debbie Harry, and also as Tom Tom Club) but never together.
earinsound@reddit
you had from 1981 to 2011 to see REM. haha! you’re lucky VF is still around, despite their lawsuits against each other
Darn_Tired@reddit (OP)
Yeah, guess REM and I were not meant to be. I had tickets for two different shows (different tours) that got canceled. The others I guess I didn’t have money or some other life stuff got in the way.
surfinbird@reddit
I lived in Athens, GA in the early 90s when Sugar played their first show and I’m finally to see them live this year.
skeezycheezes@reddit
Omg I spent so much time at the 40 Watt in Athens in the 90s. Pavement ❤
zanylanie@reddit
I don't know how likely it is that either of these will happen, but Rage Against the Machine and Sleater-Kinney.
kosmonautbruce@reddit
Sleater-Kinney could for sure happen. They are supposedly touring with Fred Armisen as a Ramones cover band sometime soon.
coolmommytm@reddit
This summer! Sleater-Kinney still tours - saw them last summer - so you could very likely make it happen.
Gweveraugh@reddit
I would love to see RATM again!
ZestySest@reddit
Blues Traveler
bluealien78@reddit
They’re touring this summer with Gin Blossoms and Spin Doctors
ZestySest@reddit
I'm pretty excited. My little town rarely gets anyone cool.
bluealien78@reddit
Original line-up Dire Straits
Kalorama_Master@reddit
GNR, but I know I would disappointed
GeoHog713@reddit
Same
jjwilco@reddit
I saw them a few years ago and they were great! Axl can still sing!
J_Marshall@reddit
Going to see Triumph next week!!
Gweveraugh@reddit
Me too! (Next month here though)
ZestySest@reddit
Oh I love that band
WitnessEntire@reddit
Blister in the sun is now playing in my head
BabadookOfEarl@reddit
REM would be amazing. Iron Maiden is still on my list.
New-Possession-9248@reddit
I just booked a ticket to see them in Brisbane in Oct, yesterday! As a 12 year old I remember going to a Nico Mcbrian drum clinic and small gig he did with a few randomers. It was my first gig basically. No idea how long these guys have got left in em, so I'm looking forward to it.
BabadookOfEarl@reddit
Sadly, they’re almost bound to have a key member become unable to tour sometime soon. That’s awesome that you’re going to see them.
Apawling_Behavior@reddit
Me too!!! Gonna see them in the land of Cleve.
I did luck out and see REM on their Green tour in Philly back in the day.
BitterSweety0862@reddit
Ween
Early_Doughnut8295@reddit
Saw the Femmes 2 years ago and just saw an REM cover band a few months ago that were good

bleepbeepclick@reddit
OMG! My wife got me Violent Femmes tickets a few years back.... It was an amazing show!!!
They opened with Blister in the Sun,.... And then half the crowd left!
Honestly got rid of a bunch of posers
