Laouijabored@reddit
You eat like the British and charge like Americans.
TwoClapsAndAFistPump@reddit
To be fair, that's less than $10USD.
PseudobrilliantGuy@reddit
About 10 USD or 7.38 GBP from my check.
TwoClapsAndAFistPump@reddit
Yeah, just shy. USD gets tricky when you factor in tax as well!
sixincomefigure@reddit
In the US that's $8.50 plus tax. Dunno if you'd call that expensive or not.
In NZ that's eye watering but you pay it because you're in a stadium and you don't have a choice.
TwinPitsCleaner@reddit
It is pricey. Standard "captive audience" stadium pricing in NZ
Just-call-me-Bob@reddit
don't forget the tip!
jonathan42_4@reddit (OP)
I want my childhood back when a scoop of chips or fish from the FnC shop was $1.10 :(
newwaynezealand@reddit
Six pence for a scoop and the same for a piece of fish a meal for a shilling…. Tell that to the kids today and they don’t believe you…..
randomname1968@reddit
When I was a kid in chch, im 58 now, I went to Westburn primary. A lemonade popsicle was 7 cents. I could take a 20 cent coin and go to the Wentworth st f&c shop and get a fish, sausage, and scoop and get 2 cents change! Dad worked at the university of Canterbury and was in $105 a week and that was good coin. Chat tells me that's about $1568 a week in today's money. Just shows how much more shit costs these days cos 1568 is not raising 4 kids and paying off the mortgage. That takes two wages now days. Just food for thought.
Menamanama@reddit
The rich are getting richer. Everyone else is not. Digital services have funneled wealth upwards.
DarkflowNZ@reddit
A "dollar pie" is like $6 now lol
travelcallcharlie@reddit
Bet you don’t want your childhood minimum wage tho.
Pinkys_Brain_@reddit
A scoop of fish?
jonathan42_4@reddit (OP)
*or a
pixelmuffinn@reddit
We do not eat like the british, thank you.
Rev-Dr-Slimeass@reddit
As an American living here, I can confirm. These people have some of the most bland food.
Don't get me wrong. Bland isn't necessarily bad. There is absolutely nothing wrong with some hot chips and tomato sauce. It isn't strong on flavour though.
I love New Zealand, and the people who live here. I am not here for the food though.
_Meece_@reddit
poms would eat this with peas or some gross shit
skefmeister@reddit
Im Italian Born living in the Netherlands you have no idea how good aussie steak pie is and I heard NZ is even better. It’s just a chopped cheese only more pastry like bread
TheMilkKing@reddit
That’s a weird comparison. Chopped cheese have lettuce, tomato etc, and are made with ground beef/mince. Steak pies are made with chunks of steak.
chiefbushman@reddit
Mate, super jealous of this entire pic. Games looked great and stadium looks amazing. Had my office 50m away while they built it over the years
wilan727@reddit
I'm lost. Since when is a deep fried pie a thing. And $17?
cutekiwiguy@reddit
Looks painful
Sphinx87@reddit
Meat Pie is filling inside bread.
Meat Pie does not require bread.
Meat Pie shouldn't be deep fried.
Source: I eat a lot of meat pies.
Planet-Funeralopolis@reddit
You should try a meat pie sandwich, the bread helps soak up any meat or cheese that escapes and keeps your hands clean.
the_loneliest_monk@reddit
The idea of deep frying the pie is a weird one for me (I'd totally give it a jam though, just not for $17 😂)... but pie sandwiches are awesome. I'd personally prefer a ratio of about a quarter of a pie per slice of bread, but that's mostly just to make the pie sandwiches last longer
DarkflowNZ@reddit
Don't tell us how to pie, young man
c_monies_@reddit
You ever been to Wigan? You love it there if you like your pies
Sphinx87@reddit
All the way back to the motherland for pies? I have heard about the affordable and mass produced 'Greggs Sausage Roll". Unfortunately tales of Wigan haven't reached down under but I'll be sure to add it to my bucket list.
c_monies_@reddit
Had a mate tell me that a homeless man in Wigan asked him for money "to buy a pie", they are obsessed!
Greggs sausage roll is like maccies, it's fine and they hit the spot but there are better out there from proper bakers.
Not too sure where you're from but I couldn't think of a better reason to visit a country than "for the love of the meat pie"!
Sarazin_Sky@reddit
krakk3rjack@reddit
Had one today. Steak 'n Cheese Pie Fried Sandwich. It was messy and awesome.
CROMKONIG@reddit
You're in Christchurch dude, place is a shithole lmao
Original_Emphasis211@reddit
I don't think any kiwis think that a pie sandwich belongs on the shittyfood sub. Pie sandwiches are unironically good and this pie looks beyond typical quality.
$17 is a total ripoff but that's what you get for stadium food.
newwaynezealand@reddit
And they wonder why people don’t go any more.
LesleyGrossman@reddit
That is an absolute abomination. What is this gross child of Satan.
PRC_Spy@reddit
If you'd captioned it with "... at Ibrox Stadium, Glasgow" I'd have been less surprised.
Speaking as an (adopted) Kiwi, I have to say that's a sad and unfortunate thing to do to a pie.
cathartic_diatribe@reddit
Looks diabolical!
Michaelbirks@reddit
Would
the-realest-rivuler@reddit
Is this New Zealand or America? Who the hell deep fry’s pies???
throwaway90234902@reddit
Says in the post title NZD.
the-realest-rivuler@reddit
I was making a joke.
stead10@reddit
What even is the filling of the pie?
jonathan42_4@reddit (OP)
Steak and cheese
stead10@reddit
Looks more like mushroom than steak, did it taste good?
matty337s@reddit
It’s not OPs picture
jonathan42_4@reddit (OP)
10/10 .. I'll have to give it a go in the air fryer at home
Sir-Nicholas@reddit
Ooooh it’s like a New Zealand cheesesteak, pie paints such a different picture for me. I’d love to try that
_Meece_@reddit
Nothing like cheesesteak. Literally chunks of steak in gravy with liquid cheese
Xfuck1tX@reddit
TelevisionJet@reddit
That new stadium looks so good on tv, hope you enjoyed super round!
mercaptans@reddit
It was fucking delicious though
xUmphLove@reddit
And Europeans have the audacity to make fun of American food. Not even the fattest redneck in Mississippi is eating mf pie sandwiches.
pixelmuffinn@reddit
Too busy eating their sister, i assume
Rev-Dr-Slimeass@reddit
New Zealand. Not Europe.
Nopenottodaymate@reddit
The state of geography education in the US is apparently more appalling than I thought.
puyi5@reddit
Ah yes, the Europeans of NZ just exactly as I mentioned it in my comment. Idiot

They’re downvoting you but you’re speaking the truth. This looks like crap, doesn’t sound good, and IS stupid. PIE… SANDWICH… 💩

SloppySilvia@reddit
You've clearly never tried a New Zealand pie lol
dorothean@reddit
I think there downvoting him because New Zealand is about as far from Europe as it’s possible for a country to be
Bozzo2526@reddit
Meat pie. Sweet pies are called tarts here. Meat pies are a classic around here, steak and cheese, mince and cheese or even curry ones like butter chicken are staples of the kiwi diet.
Jeramy_Jones@reddit
RIP your toilet.
jonathan42_4@reddit (OP)
Just living in the moment man
pixelmuffinn@reddit
L I V N
Comprehensive_Soil_1@reddit
Deep fried pie? Explain
pixelmuffinn@reddit
Its like frying. But deeper
Aggravating_Ask_6988@reddit
Looks like Te Kaka too me.. 🤦🤮
Karhak@reddit
I'm guessing this some sort of savory pie as I assume that's ketchup.
jonathan42_4@reddit (OP)
Yeah Steak and cheese pies with Watties tomato sauce are pretty staple in New Zealand
TwinPitsCleaner@reddit
It's our first feed after we're born
Kene6969@reddit
What a ripoff!
Apprehensive-Tie5658@reddit
The food prices there are insane it cost like $12 for the most pathetic hot dog I’d ever seen
theflickingnun@reddit
17 bucks!
For a Kai pie, mince and cheese no less. That is insane that you would pay that.
art_mor_@reddit
I’ve got to try a pie sandwich one day
DexRei@reddit
The deep fried part is wild. But a pie sammy was a staple growing up
DarkflowNZ@reddit
Back when them bitches were a dollar from your local 4square
DexRei@reddit
We had em at the High School Cafe
---reddituser--@reddit
So a $17 pie with 2 slices of bread
Rhiyuu@reddit
bet that was banging
douglapnz@reddit
That clearly ain't deep fried!
Spicyocto@reddit
Why’d they put it in a sandwich?😂 is that a Christchurch thing?
Aggressive-Phone-423@reddit
Pie sandwich is a thing all over new Zealand usually eaten by stoners
ExpatKiwiDocinUK@reddit
SenorCustomer@reddit
Cant believe chch got a shout out here
JustEstablishment594@reddit
Ahh, a good old Wigan Kebab.
purplereuben@reddit
Deep fried... is it battered?
topscreen@reddit
So that feels like too much money, cause stadium food, and really stupid, cause a pie doesn't need a sandwhich... but I'll take one!
DexRei@reddit
Hey now. This was a high school cafeteria staple where i grew up
Kinnikuboneman@reddit
Nice Scran
c_monies_@reddit
Belongs on footy scran.
Would absolutely smash the fuck out of it, can't beat a Wigan kebab
Drclaw411@reddit
A what?
BitGamerX@reddit
Interesting choice for morning tea.
tehspacepope@reddit
It's like a fancy Wigan Slappy, but on white bread. I'd give it a shot.
tunachilimac@reddit
Crazy that this is the fancy version of something lol
tehspacepope@reddit
This version is apparently deep fried, which obviously classes it up a notch.
jonathan42_4@reddit (OP)
Had to give Wigan Slappy a Google.. I'd give her a go !
Shamus-McNasty@reddit
I'll take gravy over the mushy pea juice, thank you.
constanto@reddit
Wigan Slappy with a side cup of gravy is the lord's drunk food order.
theorian123@reddit
Scrandle.com for all the scran lovers out there.
BushwickSpill@reddit
Nice scran
phatballlzzz@reddit
How was the new stadium mate? Looked fantastic from what I’ve seen but I haven’t been in person yet
jonathan42_4@reddit (OP)
I loved it, it's fit for purpose n the enclosure roof feels nice. The capacities spot on i think with the cost of liv8hg most ppl would prefer to sit in front of their 70' n grab a beer outta the fridge. I'm guttered it's just 4 rugby n concerts would love to watch an ODI or T20 there but bigger problems in the world
