That why you move your tandems forward for tight turns...
taco_2325@reddit
So you’re telling me you pull over and slide your tandems every time you encounter a wide turn? Sorry but I’m calling b.s on this one. It’s called making wide turns and taking all the space you need. If the road isn’t clear, set your hazard, lane block and wait until you can take all the space you need to make the proper turn. City and rural food service driver here and trainer.
GenX_Leo@reddit
Who would do that... obviously he is a dedicated driver... some one SHOWED him his route... who tf leaves their tandems all the way back knowing they need to make a tight turn... dont be effin stupid and trying to call me out...
Correct_Writer_3410@reddit
Not all the way back, that's like 48 ft line or so
GenX_Leo@reddit
Plus I dont care about 4 wheelers... my delivery comes first...
Emergency_Ad1152@reddit
As soon as I would get in the city I'm delivering in, I stopped and slide my tandems all the way forward cause I know I'm about to go through some tight ass turns getting into those Dollar stores.
taco_2325@reddit
Okay thanks for the clarification then. Our company trailers only have our tandems slid all the way forward for this reason unless we have a heavy backhaul the requires us to slide our tandems blah blah blah. But don’t forget about that tail swing. It’s another thing I frequently find myself explaining to the new guys. We deliver to C stores day and night with vehicles everywhere and it’s one more thing to think about before you begin your maneuver. Stay safe out there 👍🏽
brasilkid16@reddit
Hey, you can't park there!
ForgottonTNT@reddit (OP)
It was tempting, but he already looked mad 😂
IndependenceStock417@reddit
Just help him discover a new level of anger 😂
PutridContribution41@reddit
Insane part is that they hire actual rookies for those accounts. Those places are extremely tight and need experienced drivers. The experienced drivers know better not to mess with those accounts so they take rookies I guess.
scottiethegoonie@reddit
If people would just stop being POOR, these stores wouldn't need to exist, and our driver wouldn't be in such a pickle. Simple math guys.
Emergency_Ad1152@reddit
Started my trucking career as a Dollar Tree driver, go thrown into tight spots that just kept getting worse every week.
At no point did I ever make a tight turn without going slow, looking at my mirrors, or stopping once I see I wasn't going to make it.
How these drivers just keep going and hope for the best is beyond my understanding.
taco_2325@reddit
Wide turns, drivers.
As a food service trainer, I can’t stress this enough -if the road isn’t clear, wait! Set yourself up properly, get over, and make the full swing.
No company is going to fault you for taking too much space on a turn, but they absolutely will if you put the truck in a ditch trying to rush it.
IBringTheHeat2@reddit
Put that bitch in first gear, lock the diffs and floor it.
ForgottonTNT@reddit (OP)
That wouldnt have worked; the tractor was off the ground , it only had 3 wheels on the ground 💀
deezkeys098@reddit
That’s why when guys come on here asking about the dollar tree account I always say don’t do it!🤣
JankyMark@reddit
They put them stores in the most craziest places
Blackdogtrucking@reddit
I hate it when the ditch jumps out at you!
Only-Canary-7306@reddit
It's a learning curve. Hopefully he doesn't get fired. He didn't roll it, that's a positive. Face it, we've all been there. If you have not needed a tow truck, you haven't been trucking.
nick_soccer10@reddit
Typical dollar g drivers…. No experience
ptk77@reddit
I feel like they'd have to have the most experienced seeing as how tight some Dollar Generals are.
PeakNo6892@reddit
They don't even have to back up to the door, they use a lift gate and rolling carts.
I'm on a family dollar dedicated account and we have to get more or less lined up with the door and it ~80% blindside
It blows my mind when I get an easy sight side and get it in 1-2 pull ups and the workers at the store say they normally see truckers spending 20 minutes trying to get it.
What must they do on the hard ones lmao
nick_soccer10@reddit
Absolutely not… they hire anyone and contract some of their loads. When our guys get fired from Sysco for hitting stuff, dollar g picks them right up.
Songgeek@reddit
My guess he didn’t compensate for his tandems being all the way back and made that turn and the trailer dragged ass.
When I was with dollar general I never drove to a location with my tandems slid all the way back. Always all the forward. Maybe the weight was fd but the way we were routed was to get to the first store before a scale house, and the only way I was able to make some of those KY back road turns was making that trailer respond quicker.
InvstrJester@reddit
Roads with a trench on the shoulder are dangerous. You can’t even pullover if you have an emergency
AgreeableSource7473@reddit
damn, if that’s the parking lot to his destination I know he even more pissed
jmzstl@reddit
Running Dollar General with the tandems that far back is crazy work.
bridgesiib123@reddit
It wasn't even a sharp turn. I think Ray Charles coulda made that
Unhappy-Bag4525@reddit
Yea....he should've been all on the left side of the road to take that turn. It's one thing if it was packed street ( I would've sat and waited for an opening), but an open road?...I'm driving like a FedEx or UPS delivery box truck driver
Commercial_Raise3378@reddit
Even if he had made it past the ditch, he is on the fence. He didn't even try to make that corner.
ForgottonTNT@reddit (OP)
Yea , he said he didn’t hit it wide enough
sensefuldrivel@reddit
Hindsight is indeed 20/20
ConsciousAwareness69@reddit
He was already having a shitty day being on that dollar general account
badmechanic12345@reddit
"Swing wide, stay wide" was the motto my trainer drilled into my head. After the third cattle gaurd I took out he said that I'd get the hang of it
st_psilocybin@reddit
LOL this in Kentucky? I think i know that guy
ForgottonTNT@reddit (OP)
Na it’s Dallas Tx
vanishing_point@reddit
Company I used to drive for did DG new construction. I showed up with the display racks and shelving, a guy from TN showed up with the shopping carts, cashier kiosks and some other stuff. It was hard enough putting a truck on that lot, and the parking lot was empty because the store wasn't even open yet!
Quiet_Molasses_3362@reddit
Those dang dg's accounts must be awful for baby drivers. Sucks for y'all.
OneMulatto@reddit
It is doable. He just started and ended wrong. They'll still ask for certain items off the truck if he can get to them.
steveteeg1@reddit
Probably not the first or last bad day for him
theboywthagreenscarf@reddit
He put out the cones. I see nothing wrong
Rare_Indication_3811@reddit
Bad day is last of the issues there. I would wonder if he has imagination
Ill_Aside_5662@reddit
I'll always swing swide especially if it's a right turn where there is a ditch to the right. Turning left I'll have more precision.
MrButak@reddit
I can understand this. If you're newish and used to standard wide streets and not having to get into the other lane for a turn.
Or going somewhere new - maybe it snuck up on him and oncomming traffic was there and just went for it.
AndromedanPrince@reddit
fuck those tandems
edsavage404@reddit
Who needs to see in their mirrors right?
SashaDabinsky@reddit
He wasn't even close to making it. 🤦♂️
