The switch is a home console. You can just also take it places. He's right about Zelda, though. Aonuma has made it clear that the series is permanently ruined.

Fair point. But, then again, isn't all the gaming industry fucked up for 10+ years now? The sane man answer is to go retro, emulated even.

Yeah I used to make custom art and they cracked down on all my accounts. Especially Nintendo. They used to be cool with it growing up. Not sure if it was one of their CEO's or what.
It sucks since I was making some nice side money selling prints and shirts. And it was my own art too, I wasn't ripping off their artwork to put on shirts.

My long and boring take incoming:
When Nintendo was the top dog, its CEO was Hiroshi Yamauchi, an old-school breed of executive: humble beginning, confident, headstrong and treating the company as his own backyard. Regardless of the pros and cons of that approach, Nintendo experienced great success. However, it was a shock, during the Nintendo 64 era, that the company wasn't at its peak anymore.
Times were changing fast, Yamauchi was old and arranged for a successor. First, he made sure they had another shot: the GameCube. After the console was successfully released, he finally passed the baton to his successor: Satoru Iwata. He was a passionate and capable person, but had a different context: he wasn't the one who made the company grow, a crisis was being faced and... he was (relatively) young. Needless to say, the guy was easy prey for the board of directors and shareholders.
Many people interfered with Nintendo by then, which was slowly, but steady, losing its form. There was no one at the helm that came from below, who grew up without "listening to the market" because there was nothing to listem to. Pride and tradition were considered things from the past, and the company changed its gear to maximum profit. Heavy standardization took off (what people consider the "Mario mandate" is nothing but a reflex of that), so easy mass producing could be done. Focus was solely on what the market indicated that would sell. Disney (which built an empire based on stability) was a clear role model.
Ultra-protection was a lesson learned, ensuing sophistry (retardation) like: "there's a random guy profiting by selling t-shirts using our characters. If he wasn't around, that would be OUR money". The icing on the cake would be using the same strategy as designer brands: artificial scarcity to create the sense of value, of "selling out", and inducing FOMO. They also prey on menchildren whose mentality would make Chris-chan look like Plato (but that's partly their fault).
Nintendo was never perfect, but had some level of decency and spontaneity that was unfortunately lost, to the point of selling cardboard at a premium (see Labo). The problem is: every major player now have a closet full of skeletons, everyone knows, and they just went "nah, fuck it". People keep buying, they keep falling lower. That's it.

Brother are you on Adderall or something
Helpful-Team-2069@reddit
100% clean. I just like to write/tell my thoughts.

>hating on the Wii
It gave us some of the best games of all time
djaqk@reddit
The Wii was actually so peak tho, playing Wii Sports for the first time was so much fun. Even my hyper normal fam who have never touched games before or after got in on it, which is an insane achievement imo
ryseing@reddit
The Wii U sucked. Nintendo had to merge its handheld and console development teams after the 3DS got most of their attention. There's a pretty strong argument from the GBA on that the handheld lineups were better than the home console lineups.
TorfriedGiantsfraud@reddit
Complete pleb here know nothing about Nintendo or consoles or Zelda just saw an RLM BotW clip once, so what's wrong with mountain climbing and why is that slop? Thx
TorfriedGiantsfraud@reddit
Also chin tablets are like Huawei or what?
PhantasmologicalAnus@reddit
PS1 was a joke with the loading times. I refused to own one. Or any PlayStation.

Isn't one of the main complaints people have with the Switch 2 is that it's just a Switch 1 with no stupid Nintendo gimmick? Are they stupid?
outland_king@reddit
A lot of complaints are around it being just more of the same. You either need horsepower or a gimmick, and the switch 2 has neither, so people are kind of wondering what the return on investment is.
Toowiggly@reddit
The gimmick is the mouse controls
GameMask@reddit
It's pretty powerful for a 450 dollar device. Last thing I wanted was another gimmick from Nintendo. That only worked with the Wii and the DS. Their attempts at gimmicks for consoles never worked besides them
Phteven_j@reddit
Pretty dismissive of the Switch. The thing works great as a home console - I’ve never used mine as a portable. The real benefit for me is the gigantic library of games from a bunch of random publishers and systems. You can play most of the main line final fantasy games on there for instance.
outland_king@reddit
Its ass as a home console, multiplatform games like Minecraft run terribly on the machine compared to their counterparts. and coop titles basically tank the fps.
Its perfectly fine as a replacement for the nintendo DS. But its tragicly underpowered for TV based home gaming.
Toowiggly@reddit
I don't see why I should be concerned if bad games run poorly
BrocoliAssassin@reddit
My nephews have the Switch and it looks like complete garbage tech. Dropped frame rates,laggy..kinda weird to have a system that is on the level of a 100 dollar smartphone.
Kenway@reddit
? You can play "most of the mainline ff games" on any console. If you count the Remasters.
Phteven_j@reddit
But can I also play Mario party on the internet
Kenway@reddit
Is Mario Party from a "random publisher"? I don't hate the Switch, but unless you want to play games from Nintendo, there are better options for home gaming, especially considering the reasons you gave for favouring it originally.
WAAAAAAAAARGH@reddit
No but it’s the only console where you can do both
Dark_Shroud@reddit
This is why the Analogue 3D and EverDrive cart exist.
offthepenndontteller@reddit
Nintendo didn't sell well when trying to compete on specs, see the N64 and GC. They sold really well when they went in on the gimmick, excluding the wind that has a name destined for obscurity. It isn't hard to understand nintendo realized they were better off not trying to outpwer the Playstation.
gerkessin@reddit
This is bait. No way somebody is getting neckbeardy about LoZ. Thats like getting sweaty over ring toss. Its a kids toy
WAAAAAAAAARGH@reddit
I weigh 435 lbs and ring toss has me drenched after 5 minutes fwiw

Real anons are buying the NEO GEO remake
DoTheMonsterHash@reddit
Anon has a point. I would’ve stayed in the Nintendo ecosystem much longer had they kept up with Sega and Sony console wise during those stretches.
