Anyone else get this exclusion on their AVEMCO policy?

Worried that I’m not gonna be covered

Almost every insurance policy you get is going to have a similar statement. It’s to limit their liability. If just a single nuclear bomb goes off, it’ll cause billions of dollars in damages.
Kein-Deutsc@reddit
I wonder if I can pay for nuclear coverage?
rohepey@reddit
Depending where it goes off, sort of.
Fair_Ad_4818@reddit
Very common for insurance policies. Nothing new. Gotta be a funny find for those that don’t know and actually start to read their paperwork
AWACS_Bandog@reddit
Yup, saw that on my Avemco from a few years ago.
I believe there's exceptions for the aircraft being taken for use by the USAF, or a hostile invading power for use in their military, as well as a bunch of other "we were asked so the lawyer put in this edge case".
uniballing@reddit (OP)
We’re in rough shape if the USAF needs to commandeer a clapped out Skylane from the 1960s
Orzorn@reddit
Its the only thing we could find to fly into the alien mothership at its key moment of weakness.
uniballing@reddit (OP)
I’m definitely raising my hand if they ask if there are any pilots. I’m sure I can figure out how to fly an F-18 while hungover. I’ve got 140 hours and a Sport Pilot Certificate

More likely gonna be some geriatric from CAP trying to pull a "I need your plane for national security" between the wheezes.
muh Air Force Auxillary

On my assured partners policy the wording is "any hostile detonation of any weapon of war employing atomic or nuclear fission and/or fusion or other like reaction or radiative force."
x4457@reddit
Glad they allow for friendly nuclear detonations.
Icy-Bar-9712@reddit
Insert Carlin's take on Civil War.
Vast-Breakfast-1201@reddit
Not historically irrelevant
reshan@reddit
At least he'll be covered for Project Plowshare 2.
rohepey@reddit
Nuclear fusion isn't an explosive process. And to-date has been achieved - on an experimental basis - only in a few super well funded physics labs.
Nuclear weapons and power plants all use nuclear fission.
Whoever approved the wording, had no idea about nuclear physics. Or nuclear weapons.
SkyLordz@reddit
Hydrogen bomb. Fission and Fusion.
nellonthemellon@reddit
Even in nuclear war insurance companies will prevail
randombrain@reddit
Lloyd's of Llondon will be lloaded when they go!
zemelb@reddit
I just applied for an AVEMCO renters policy the other day and saw this too, I showed it to my wife and had a chuckle
Guysmiley777@reddit
In the event of WWIII lose our mothafuggin number, ya feel me?
SeeMarkFly@reddit
We are already in World War Greed.
The nuke is in case of non payment.
PipsqueakPilot@reddit
Direct damage from war is usually a separate excluded risk. This would be clarifying that things like a nuclear melt down, or fallout from whatever someone does with a nuke (for instance a terrorist dirty bomb), are also not covered.
Mediocre_Paramedic22@reddit
Where the hell do you fly?!
nolaflygirl@reddit
🤣
galloping_skeptic@reddit
Wail til you find the terrorism exclusion.
300blkdout@reddit
Just accept TRIA?
uniballing@reddit (OP)
Note to self: squawking 7500 voids my insurance policy
JSTootell@reddit
Don't be anti fascist!
Nearly_Pointless@reddit
The actuaries are not optimistic about our future are they?
300blkdout@reddit
Those risks are uninsurable. These exclusions were standardized many years ago.
300blkdout@reddit
Nukes, war, and basically anything else caused by the government is going to be excluded on any insurance policy and you can’t add it back for any sum of money.
Those risks are literally uninsurable.
Roger_Freedman_Phys@reddit
Yes, for many years.
dopexile@reddit
Crap, I better stop transporting the nuke in the back of my plane
skunimatrix@reddit
But how will you get to 1.21 Jigawatts?
skunimatrix@reddit
Well I guess if they dig up the West Lake landfill I might be screwed...
aftcg@reddit
Cold War relic that oddly seems applicable today
BrtFrkwr@reddit
That's why it's impossible to insure nuclear power plants.
mfigroid@reddit
They can be insured. https://www.amnucins.com/insurance/
hehesf17969@reddit
Got that on my AP renters policy too😤
Jay18001@reddit
Every insurance, (car, home, life, renters) policy has that
PLIKITYPLAK@reddit
Yep, I learned the hard way. Last nuclear war I had to pay for everything. Thought I was covered but when I called the insurance company they directed me to that little note in the policy. I now buy an additional nuclear exclusion policy. Lesson learned.
ScholarErrant@reddit
Yet another reason to opt for the “anti-flash white” paint scheme if I ever get a plane.
lil_layne@reddit
Well I guess if your plane gets destroyed by a nuclear bomb you probably have other things to worry about at that point. If you are even alive to worry about it.
JSTootell@reddit
I fear I am too far away from a target now. I might actually survive 😭
I'll survive, and I won't even have a plane to look down on the hellscape with 😭
