Good move.
Israel should have been banned for the genocide but they're also bringing the contest into severe disrepute by being allowed to manipulate the voting so heavily.
Immediate_Radio_8012@reddit
I've loved the eurovision since I was a kid. It's hard to see how it can ever go back to what it was now tbh.
Stippings@reddit (OP)
Based Slovenia, I wish my country did the same since we're also abstaining from the contest. But shamefully they decided to broadcast it either way, although the expected viewer count is expected to be drastically lower than normal.
Flipnotics_@reddit
My friend feels so devastated about Eurovision. She really got into it a few years ago and is convinced the universe hates her because every time she gets really invested in something it always goes to trash.
blobofhope@reddit
Do you mean she too will boycott but is upset about it?
Flipnotics_@reddit
She's upset that everything is subpar this season because of the Israel thing, and mad they allowed Israel back, since it almost broke Eurovision last year.
She just wants her cool unique music.
Thisconnect@reddit
i wouldn't say music, but fun performances and a lotta gay mixed in was fun over the years.
Last year broke the straw with genociders almost winning. This year the diaspra and bots will make them win and ESC will be disbanded
ChampionshipNo3072@reddit
She shouldn't be sad to miss a political contest with dogshit music
Flipnotics_@reddit
Aaand. That's a flush...
blobofhope@reddit
Ok, my first reading gave me a more cynical understanding, a great reminder to reserve judgement and check before speaking! Phew!
Stippings@reddit (OP)
Oof, too relatable. Not necessary about Eurovision or Israel, but this also happens to me quite often.
Flipnotics_@reddit
So was so happy a few years ago when Bambi Thug was doing her song. Now she thinks she's cursed because everything she loves turns to ash after she gets interested.
moonorplanet@reddit
And my country isn't even in Europe and is still participating with a washed up singer who had her peak two decades ago.
Bolaumius@reddit
The sad thing is that for every Spain and Slovenia there seems to be like 10 Germany's.
WillListenToStories@reddit
Crazy that they're still allowing Israel to participate. I guess genocide isn't a dealbreaker for Eurovision. Sad times we're living in.
It's not a great look for all the other countries still participating in the genocide whitewashing show, imo.
ThisIsMyFloor@reddit
Germany gave ultimatum that if they ban; Germany will also leave. I already got a suspension on reddit for condemning their support. It's "hate" to be anti-fascist on reddit.
Arrow156@reddit
Always contest those, especially if you're dealing with anyone in a fandom. Those people can get unhinged and looking for anything they can report you for. If you can get some actual human eyes to review it, they'll likely resend BS suspensions/bans.
darkvaris@reddit
I got a warning for sharing a wikipedia article bout the happy merchant. They’re so focused that b protecting Israel they are flagging people calling out actual antisemitism
redditeur404@reddit
The Happy Merchant is an antisemitic caricature that has nothing to do with Israel.
darkvaris@reddit
Yeah no shit, read between the lines mate. They flagged a literal Wikipedia article about the subject because they’re tuning their algorithms to suppress more and more critical opinions of Israel.
The automods are clearly making a linkage there that most right minded people would say is actually antisemitic: linking the jewish people worldwide to Israel.
redditeur404@reddit
My bad, I didn't get what you were saying. I've seen so many antisemitic comments lately that mix everything up.
Actually, the part I still doubt is the "protecting Israel" claim. I have seen many, and I mean many, comments here on Reddit and elsewhere, from randoms to public figures, that have been slipping into antisemitic tropes worryingly easily, and always in denial about it. It's quite possible the automod thing was done for good reasons but in a bad quick and dirty way.
darkvaris@reddit
Maybe, I guess from my perspective I’ve seen so many bald-faced shitty moments its really hard to offer grace after knowing how powerful people do their best to manipulate conversations.
Faithful-Llama-2210@reddit
Not true actually, the German government indicated that it would be their preference for NDR to withdraw if Israel was banned, but NDR never made such a statement themselves
ThisIsMyFloor@reddit
Well that just seems like unnecessary nitpicking. Germanys leader want to withdraw if Israel is banned no? Which seems intuitively more important than some random three letters I never even heard of that you think means something. I just get some national diabetic registry if I google it but nice input.
"Chancellor Friedrich Merz says that if Israel is excluded from Eurovision 2026, Germany will not take part."
Faithful-Llama-2210@reddit
Most European publjc broadcasters are independent of their governments, how does SVT work?
ledankmememaster@reddit
Merz has no direct control (for good reason) of what the stateowned TV channel (in particular NDR) broadcasts or which televised contests it takes part in.
He could put pressure on them but he is not the one who decides. I think that is an important distinction.
ThisIsMyFloor@reddit
German tv channel does not matter. If they participate in Eurovision or not does not matter to me. Their stance on supporting genocide is what matters to me. So when the chancellor says they will stand with Israel that matters.
ledankmememaster@reddit
It matters enough for you to lash out at the commenter who corrected you, on a thread about boycotting the ESC. You’re claiming “Germany gave an ultimatum” which is factually not true, it was only our chancellor so far who made his stance clear, but we tried to explain to you that he has no say in the matter.
We’re on the same side but that doesn’t mean you should get fired up at us trying to explain nuance, that Germany would still participate in the (unlikely) case that Israel gets kicked out.
Molested-Cholo-5305@reddit
He meant ARD, which is the german broadcaster that actually decides what Germany does in regards to Eurovision, not Friedrich Merz, who might be on the way out.
ChillAhriman@reddit
Report the suspension message when given the option. Most side-wide punishments are given through bots, and having a human look into them often results in the punishment getting lifted. Even if your suspension already ended, having it in your history will make the bot be more likely to give you a permanent ban next time.
ThisIsMyFloor@reddit
Thanks for the tip! It was indeed a clanker that banned me. I'm not gonna bother though, if I get perma I get perma. Would probably do me good to not be here to be honest. If they ban people with clankers that's evident that they do not care so I ain't gonna beg.
DariusStrada@reddit
And why would anyone care? Let them leave then
Radiant-Fly9738@reddit
Germany simply likes being on the wrong side of history.
ThisIsMyFloor@reddit
Indeed. That's pretty much what I said to get me banned. Although a bit more flavourful language.
balvonas11@reddit
Genocide with a population increase of 7 times, hmmm 🤔
Gubbinso@reddit
This random Redditor thinks he knows better than hundreds of genocide scholars, human rights and legal experts, without any evidence to back him up. LMAO
SpontaneousFlame@reddit
Genocide denier and innumerate.
balvonas11@reddit
Around 1948: ~1.3–1.4 million Palestinians (in historic Palestine) Now: West Bank: ~3.2 million Gaza Strip: ~2.2 million Israel (Arab citizens): ~2 million Diaspora: ~7+ million
You wanna try again 😂😂😂? I know the facts dont match your tiktok fanfiction, but oh well that is just how the world works.
SpontaneousFlame@reddit
Are really sure that the Gaza genocide refers to 1948? Innumerate, uneducated and unaware of current events…
WillListenToStories@reddit
The Wikipedia article on the subject is a good primer if you're interested in learning about it.
https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Gaza_genocide
balvonas11@reddit
Did you know that wikipedia is not considered an academic source? Of course you did not as the only education you have is tiktok university. Do you know why is it not considered an academic source? Because it can be edited by almost anyone, including brainwashed hamas supporters like you. Call me when the UN court or other internationally recognised authority decides that a genocide happened (spoiler: that will never happen, as you can not recognise something that doesn’t exist).
babycart_of_sherdog@reddit
Eurovision: It's not about Europe, it's about the Euro
In their field of vision, all they see is the Euro
Everything else, is negligible
SpontaneousFlame@reddit
Actually, that’s not true. They are willing to lose multiple participating countries and all that money just to protect Israel and keep it in Eurovision. Israel trumps everything else.
voidox@reddit
yup, same with all the sports organisation that still let Israel compete yet they'll ban Russia and/or they make Russian athletes compete with a neutral flag yet Israeli athletes flying their flag all over.
double standards to the peak.

Based. It's about as sharp a contrast as you can get to show it into EBU and Eurovision face.
Honestly mostly Slovenians aren't even mad because we'll save money, don't expect us to return for multiple years especially if EBU refuses to budge on Israel.
blobofhope@reddit
Abortion safe heaven, clear stance on Israel… go Slovenia! I love when “smaller” countries show the bugger nations by just doing the right thing!
This is so refreshing.
