Hear me out. Perfect for drone defense. 6000ish rounds of 22lr fit into a standard ammo can. A single round to hit is all thats needed to take out most drones. You can have an insanely high rate of fire and mount this to basically any vehicle/ even 3 man team portable.

Except the range is terrible, and a single hit will only work against small quadcopters and fpv drones. Larger kamikaze drones and loitering munitions will largely ignore it unless you get a lucky hit on something important.

You'd be surprised. Ukrainian gunners often need really long bursts out of their miniguns to take down a Shahed. There's a reason people realized rifle-caliber machine guns weren't good anti-air weapons by 1940.

[An American 180](https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=J50N5lQoAFw) would be cheaper lighter and just as good. The only actual target for it though would be a surveillance drone that's loitering outside of the effective range of a shotgun set up for max range. They are making some computer aided optics now that might actually let you zoom in on a drone 500 yards away and direct the "swarm of angry bees" at it. Like you say one or 2 hits is all it would take.

So, a Phalanx microCIWS. I think that 5.56mm version would be better because it would have trasser rounds, and it's rimless. And radar or optical guidance would be needed, because maintenance costs will be too high to afford missing a lot of shots.

I think this is actually one of the pros of a Gatlin gun setup, regardless of misfires, which rimfires experiences a lot more, the barrel will be rotated and the next round fired.

It's as reliable as the motor driving it. Rounds that fail to fire will still be rotated out and ejected, because the gun doesn't use any of the recoil or gas to function.
