Desperate times call for desperate prison food. Chicken soup alot of natural sweetcorn and instant mashed potato. The potato has soaked up the chicken soup beautifully. Surprisingly I'm giving it a 8/10 for flavour and fullness. 1/10 for the looks

Instant mashed potatoes hit every time
Appropriate-Sun834@reddit
Idk if you’ve ever been to prison but the food is better than this
Fukyuiku@reddit
Sounds delicious. Looks good too but I never eat with my eyes
TrueWelshboy@reddit (OP)
Defo 100% worth a try it's soup with serious meaning just look at the replies in here for a suggestion on how to make it even better.
Fukyuiku@reddit
Thanks for the tip
No_Safe3607@reddit
It looked like uncook scramble egg
ulnek@reddit
I make corn soup with chicken using canned corn... Not because I have to. I just like it.
KTKittentoes@reddit
That looks good. I love chicken corn soup, so I was almost there.
auld-guy@reddit
I'd crush that. Assignment failed. Not shitty.
SubatomicSquirrels@reddit
some of you really need to learn the point of this sub
It's not just for "shitty food" porn. It's also for shitty "food porn". And this is DEFINITELY the latter
TrueWelshboy@reddit (OP)
Does seem even my lowest attempts always seem to work way too good. I would order this from a 5 star restaurant if they served it.
auld-guy@reddit
It’s a gift.
LilArtsyCreature@reddit
Never seen this before, ingenious. Saw y'all talking about adding greens and biscuits amd such as well in the others comments. Got some good struggle meal recipes I'll have to note down in here for when I can eat again. (GI issues taketh sadly but we're working on it 👍)

Step away from the sports-direct mug, lad
TrueWelshboy@reddit (OP)
I'm pouring a sports direct mug of water towards you... enjoy the tsunami! 😆
FrenchFreedom888@reddit
That shit looks gloopy and delicious
Cookinghist@reddit
If it was super cold outside, couple dashes of hot sauce? I'm a happy dude with that cup o' thiccness.
cicadason5000@reddit
Kinda a big fan of this like
AltruisticSalamander@reddit
That looks pretty nice. I mainly eat stuff like this, some combo of dried, frozen, canned whatever.
prosperos-mistress@reddit
I love me some sloppy stew. I bet this fucks
Jeramy_Jones@reddit
You made gruel.
It’s okay to admit it.
TrueWelshboy@reddit (OP)
Now that I'm thinking about it yes it is gruel and it was beyond delicious 😋 would make it again.
largetreat@reddit
Mashed potato mixup is awesome and super filling.
Here's a bunch of mixins; - spinach (store bought, frozen kind). - tuna. - canned corned beef. - frozen vege & fav cup-of-soup. - gravy (obvs) - crispy bacon & cream cheese - nuggets of cheese
Warm anything your going to add in to stop dish going cold quickly
Turtle_With_Grudge@reddit
Never really thought of using insta mash to thicken up a soup like this. I'll be trying this on a cold day.
PsychologicalArm2138@reddit
Hmm
agoia@reddit
Chicken, corn, and potato chowder! Sounds tasty.
MarsScully@reddit
I know it’s objectively fine, but this specifically is my textural and flavour profile nightmare
TrueWelshboy@reddit (OP)
I got the tism and textures can destroy a meal for me too but this was actually surprisingly wonderful and got absolutely destroyed in minutes. It's just a thicker chicken sweetcorn soup that I will be eating again. This time as suggeseed in the replies I'm making a pie out of it with biscuit dough.

TheHipsterBandit@reddit
A bit of green onion and I bet this would be bangin.
Shadowpriest@reddit
Oh could dress this up a number of ways for cheap meal: green onion, bacon crumbles, fried onions, shredded cheese, perhaps some tater tots if you have an air fryer. I would also consider air fry or pan fry a hot dog or sausage and slice into little circles and make it an everything bowl.
TrueWelshboy@reddit (OP)
I'm still very very full and your suggestions are still somehow making me feel very hungry to try them all and someone mentioned kfc and I want to add kfc chicken gravy to it too... now I feel starving for it.
Shadowpriest@reddit
I mean at that point grab yourself a piece of biscuit dough and an oven safe little ramekin and roll/stretch over the top to make your own pot pie brush with butter and drizzle the the top with gravy! 🤤
TrueWelshboy@reddit (OP)
Screenshotted your reply for later use because that just straight up is going to be life changing... genuinely sounds like it would be a big seller worth a road trip. I can tell you go to some amazing eats.
Shadowpriest@reddit
I love exploring new foods and different ways to make things that would hopefully be yummy to eat. Also grew up in an ethnic home, lived in food desert neighborhoods, and also had to make due with whatever I found around in the kitchen until payday. Or sometimes it took until the 2nd payday to be able to go grocery shopping. Just because a good looks bad doesn't mean it tastes bad too.
Hot-Refrigerator6583@reddit
Or dill. Just anything green to liven it up a little.
Now I want to try it.
ainsleighT@reddit
This sounds banging icl
TrueWelshboy@reddit (OP)
Not going to lie I'm looking forward to making this again but with some spring onion.
PermanentTrainDamage@reddit
Some finely chopped broccoli would smash
TrueWelshboy@reddit (OP)
Oooooh! i would smash that like it's a eating contest I also want to try it with kfc chicken gravy too there's just so much inspiration in these replies it's somehow making me feel hungry when I'm still full.
ZeMadDoktore@reddit
Poor man's corn chowder
UncleDuude@reddit
Grits are cheap and pretty healthy too, just boil water or soup and dump it in
TheTrashPanda612@reddit
Smash
SparklingLimeade@reddit
Recipe discovered: potato soup with corn
FungadooFred@reddit
Looks like a sinus infecrion
TrueWelshboy@reddit (OP)
I have zero idea why the color balancing along with my warm white lighting only changed the mash into what looks like rank but left the mug untouched. Oversaturated yellows never look good on food. I agree it does look like it was sneezed up.
Outrageous-Arm1945@reddit
Be careful the instant mash soaked up enough liquid from the soup. I was once served some under-hydrated instant mash, and it swelled in my stomach, it was agonising
TrueWelshboy@reddit (OP)
Oooooh that sounds beyond agonising and I'm hoping to not get that same curse you went through I'm sweating just thinking about it. The soup itself was quite diluted and the potato was not very thick at the end of making it.
PossibleSquare@reddit
I would fw this hard
testcaseseven@reddit
I do this too to make low calorie soup more filling. Super cheap and fast.
terrafirma42@reddit
That's smart. I have some instant potatoes I need to use up.
TrueWelshboy@reddit (OP)
You have to do it it's beyond tasty and feels like it was a match made in heaven.
destinyeeeee@reddit
Where the chicken
TrueWelshboy@reddit (OP)
Liquified into what's known as soup. You should try it one day maybe you can just call it liquified edible chicken.
Ok-Yesterday-9057@reddit
is someone gonna tell him?
Defiant-Analyst4279@reddit
Kinda seems like a "poor man's KFC bowl." And now I'm a little hungry.
TrueWelshboy@reddit (OP)
Omg now I need to try this with some kfc chicken gravy I felt the idea ding thanks to your reply. Thanks for the inspiration.
ShyGenXGal@reddit
Actually sounds really good. I love soups and stews that are thick like that. They really fill me up and are like a warm hug from the inside. Great way to use what you have on hand.e perfect go
Bpopson@reddit
Using broth as the liquid is a great idea
HotCheetos998@reddit
That acctually sounds good
IrisSmartAss@reddit
The potato is an interesting way of doing that. A good alternative for someone who is lactose intolerant. Personally I'd use fresh overcooked potatoes.
Shade-RF-@reddit
Maybe a little black pepper and crispy onions to give a slight crunch?
jraymcmurray@reddit
Plain instant mash or flavored? Might be trying this tonight myself.
Brilliant-Bake9686@reddit
Gotta love when desperation leads to tasty surprises… bet it actually hit the spot tho
Main_Cauliflower5479@reddit
I'd probably eat that. I know my husband would.
TrueWelshboy@reddit (OP)
I really do highly reccomend it. I want 2nds and 3rds and then i would have it again as dessert I enjoyed it that much.
theodorant314@reddit
I think this looks and sounds incredible. I'd put some oyster crackers in for texture
pronounced_pudge@reddit
Looks sorta gross but appetising in one of those “cheap servo hot dogs” kinda way.
TrueWelshboy@reddit (OP)
My warm lighting did it extra dirty looks like ranch 😆
Veneboy@reddit
Quite recursive on your side, and with a little refinement I bet it can turn out actually alright.
